Avacyn, Angel of Pillow Fort

Commander / EDH*

mrarchitect3737

Welcome to my first EDH home brew, a classic take on the "pillow fort" style.

PRIMER

Pillow fort is a deck that is designed to make your opponents target each other rather than you, and shut the last one out in the 1v1. Because of this, threats like Serra Ascendant are ONLY included for 1v1 matchups. I strongly advise not playing Felidar Sovereign, etc. in a multiplayer game, or you will be considered the threat and attacked. The deck runs simply enough, with some experience with the archetype needed to pilot it successfully but not anywhere as intensive as some of the other decks out there. I like to think of Pillow Fort as the deck of answers, both to your opponent's specific threats (Grand Arbiter decks) but also the overall board state of the matchup (slivers). Keeping this in mind, we still see that this deck is especially weak against aggro strategies, but tends to stabilize midgame to late-game.

THE STRATEGY

Here and now, the main purpose, as I stated earlier, is to lock people out of interacting with you and you alone. You need to accept and embrace politics here, as it will often be to your advantage, and never miss a good chance to disable a threat. A freind once told me that pillow fort is like every mono-white sideboard out there crammed into one tear-out-your-hair kind of deck, and in some ways, he's right. However, a very light aggro shell had to be applied (Boros Elite, Honor of the Pure, etc.), but you still want to prioritize getting things like Ghostly Prison out ASAP. After all, what good is a wall when the enemy is already inside? Once you have a stabilizer (think Solitary Confinement) you can go about neutralizing. Defang, Pacifism, and Prison Term are all underrated cards that can shut down a single threat, usually for good, as most EDH decks will not run enchantment hate. However, in the rare case (which always seems to turn up), there is Greater Auramancy which will cover your butt. Four mana is the magic number, as it opens most of our threats such as Aurification and Linvala, Keeper of Silence. The first moments of strategy here are cover-ups. Patch this, stitch that, O-ring this... you know.

WINCONS

You may be asking yourself: "This is all good and fine, but how do I win? The answer lies in Sigil of the Empty Throne, Luminarch Ascension, and the numerous angels that we have restoring order to the rowdy citizens. Plus, you can stall until you can cast Avacyn herself and beatdown with indestructible angels of doom. Everything about this deck is geared toward grinding matchups, so if you don't get out a wincon early, don't sweat it. I once took until turn 40 to get my wincon out.

Sp, what do you think? Do you know if this could be viable in your meta? Tell me what I should do to it, as I just thought this list up in about 15 minutes. Any feedback is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

*By the way, did you know that Spirit Link can be used as excellent disruption if you enchant your opponent's threat with it? It acts like a sudo-defang if they attack you, and you get bonuses off of them attacking others!!! Politics for days.
