This is my newest EDH deck with Avacyn, Angel of Hope as the Commander. Ever since Avacyn was printed back in 2012 I wanted to build an EDH deck around her. She felt like the next great angel after Akroma, Angel of Wrath.

To support the tribal theme there are a number of goodies such as Herald's Horn and Path of Ancestry. A great tribal synergy card comes from Kaldheim in Pyre of Heroes, which allows you to chain through angels in your deck. In particular there's a chain of angels to allow you to extract most of the angels from your deck. The chain is as follows:

Any 4-drop angel, into... Karmic Guide returning whatever we want, into... Breathkeeper Seraph, into... Bruna, the Fading Light  , returning Karmic Guide, which returns Breathkeeper Seraph and then soulbonds to Karmic Guide.

Since the deck is mono-white there are very few ways to ramp besides a massive amount of mana rocks. The Angel tribal restriction also blocks out other useful cards like Solemn Simulacrum or Kor Cartographer. To make up for it, I've included Thaumatic Compass   and Sword of the Animist. Sword in particular is extremely helpful to getting that mana advantage, so there are ways to fetch it like Enlightened Tutor and Steelshaper's Gift. Getting all those Plains into play also helps bring Emeria, The Sky Ruin online, which can be quite difficult for opponents to deal with.

The deck can stall opponents out with various nuisance enchantments such as Authority of the Consuls, Kismet, Aura of Silence, Ghostly Prison and Rest in Peace.

Avacyn is a great commander that offers all of your permanents the keyword 'Indestructible'. As such, wraths become very one-sided and are greatly encouraged. I realize many wraths that hit lands too could be included in here, but since mass land destruction is generally frowned upon in more casual circles I have opted to leave out wraths like Worldslayer or Armageddon. Still, there is a large number of board wipes including Akroma's Vengeance, Austere Command, Vanquish the Horde, Hour of Revelation, Cleansing Nova, Rout, and Wrath of God. Perhaps the best wrath of all is Nevinyrral's Disk, which was originally printed without the more commonly seen "Tap, sacrifice" activation cost that newer cards contain. This means you can literally blow-up the board on each of your turns as long as Avacyn is out.

To help protect resolving Avacyn and/or wraths there are three special cards dedicated to this task. They are Lapse of Certainty, Apostle's Blessing, and Silence. Lapse and Rebuff generally catch opponents completely off-guard as almost no one expects counterspells in White. Cavern of Souls also works great in the deck to help cast angels through counters.

Most of the angels in deck are there to deny opponents the ability to take certain actions. For example Angel of Jubilation is a great card that shuts down a lot of shenanigans from Black or from special lands like fetchlands and Hall of the Bandit Lord or Boseiju, Who Shelters All. Angelic Arbiter forces opponents to choose between casting spells or attacking. Archangel of Tithes is a nuisance and offers good defense with the combat taxes. Blinding Angel completely shuts down one opponent from attacking, which can stop go-wide strategies if you don't have a wrath yet. Linvala, Keeper of Silence, just says no to numerous cards. Platinum Angel denies opponents the ability to win unless they deal with it and that can be quite difficult with Avacyn out! Admonition Angel is a real bomb especially if you've got Sword of the Animist out as well. Angel of the Ruins is essentially spot removal. Angel of Serenity can remove a bunch of threats, or even potentially return some of your own from the graveyard.

Another sub-theme among the angels are the beaters. These are the ones to pressure opponents while keeping you alive. They include Archangel of Thune and Lyra Dawnbringer *f-pre*. Lyra in particular offers great synergy with the deck.

I hope you enjoy this deck if you build it!
