Maybeboard

I initially threw this deck together after trading for some angels and board wipes. The idea was get out The Angel of Nope and some angels, then board wipe over and over! Over time the deck has become more streamlined and acquired a life gain sub-strategy, but still retains the simple but fun goal of protecting your board whilst the Angel of Hope truly becomes The Angel of Nope and everything else is destroyed.

Disclaimer: I build my decks with the main goal of having a good time while playing and not necessarily optimizing them to win. Regardless of what you are looking for I hope you enjoy the deck!

Part 2: Because I only play casually, no group I play with uses commander damage as a win condition. Please keep that in mind while looking at the deck.

I mean, there's not much to it here, The Angel of Nope is really the best commander for this deck.

Step 1: Ramp, ramp, ramp... Use Sol Ring, Pearl Medallion, Caged Sun, Starnheim Aspirant, and the like to get a head start on things.

Now you can go one of two ways depending on how fast your opponents are. If they are faster than you, just start blasting away boardwipes until you have a chance to lay down some defense.

Step 2: If you are quick enough, now it's time to get out Avacyn, Angel of Nope to protect your permanents.

Step 3: You guessed it, full blast with boardwipes, this deck contains a variety destroying all sorts of permanent types, from Armageddon to Planar Cleansing.

Step 4: Finish off your opponents with an army of indestructible angels!

This deck can be relatively slow so it has a sub theme of lifegain to keep it alive which thankfully is somewhat innate to angels as a tribe and melds nicely with the deck. I do want to stay within angels, indestructible, boardwipes, and lifegain gimmick as much as possible.

Personal choices:

  • Tutors: I get that tutors are good, I very occasionally use them however because it feels cheaty to me and I prefer the randomness of drawing off the top, uncertainty is all part of the fun for me!

  • Infinite Combos: They are allowed in my playgroup and it varies how often they show up in my decks. Winning with one is kinda boring though so I prefer to limit them (another reason I don't prefer tutors - sometimes they just say "grab a combo piece and win the game")

  • Emeria, the Sky Ruin: There does tend to be some friendly fire that happens here so this helps mitigate that.

  • Ondu Skyruins  : It's a backup boardwipe just in case I can't manage to find one somehow.

  • Angelic Accord: Makes angels if I gain life.

  • Land Tax: Helps me with consistent land drops past the first couple of turns.

  • Oblivion Ring: Indestructible? Nope.

  • Pariah: I no longer take damage and creatures survives indefinitely if it has indestrucitble.

  • Smothering Tithe: Mono-white ramp!

The original version of this deck was created in early 2017
