+1 from me! This deck looks rly fun to play. I do think you should put in some kind of tutor for the Axis, as when I was playtesting it, I didn't get it in my hand as early as I wanted

Hi and thanks a lot Snivy__

I added 4 x Painful Lesson in order to have a draw engine , hurt yourself AND still be able to finish off the opponent.

I Mardufied the deck for both flavor and efficiency. Thanks again Snivy__ .

Gideon of the trials ' Emblem can prevent you from dying while you are at 0...This could be instawin in a monowhite combo:

Adanto Vanguard + Axis of Mortality + Gideon of the Trials

Gotta find some room for the white whipper.

This seems pretty cool, gotta be a bit careful, but definitely looks fun. One note, you can't pay life you don't have, so be careful about thinking of getting the insta win with the Gideon emblem, you can't pay 1 life to Adanto, so make sure you're truly ready to go all in when you do it.

@ dpsnedd thank you

Pain deserts can be used to deal only 1 point. And yeah it's kind of a suicide deck :)

Has anyone some ideas for more playability? Thanks!

I love the idea, ever since the full set was spoiled, I dreamed of the dream draft where I drop this combo on some clueless fool's head. This deck does a lot of things well, but i feel that the combo can't hold itself up against disruption. May i suggest using Hope of Ghirapur as permission: attack with the thopter, sac it, then jam ur last combo piece. Its then almost guaranteed to survive until your upkeep; by then the ability on the stack and victory is assured.

Elf177 thanks :)

The problem is that it will die to Sweltering Suns. But yeah I will think about that. I have not tested the deck in tournament yet.

But I definitely will :)

And yeah you are totally right about disruption. My hope (of Ghirapur :p) is that control players will consider Gids and Chandra more threatening than Axis, because they are decent wincons on their own, and get killed by combo. And not the contrary.

Wow I've got a toprank... first time ever. Thanks :)

Hope of Ghirapur still doesn't stop your opponent from playing a lightning strike on your upkeep and killing you before the flip happens.

Yes dpsnedd

The best way is to lower your life so that you dont get killed but enough to kill your opponent on your turn. Thats why there is gideon. And yeah must be cautious...

I'm hesitating for a 4th Gideon vs 1 Glorifier of Dusk. Anyone? Thx

Some updates, first tournament and... it WORKED! 3 wins, 1 draw (we didn't manage to finish, 1-1)

It worked as planned, both on combo side and Planeswalkers Control.

Axis is not a dead card, as it allowed me to win by itself without having to go down really low. It can deal a huge amount of "damage", and you can finish the opponent with your normal threats.

Vanguard was incredibely valuable. I lost my HP to counter wraths, Fatal pushes, Lightning Strikes... having this out T2 vs control can be a real threat.

Most of all, I had A LOT OF FUN playing it. It is really full of ressources. I just missed my gravehate sideboard in the last matchup but that will be adjusted next time.

Won vs:

UB Control (2-0), Grixis Control (2-0), Temur Energy (2-0)

Draw vs: Procession / Tokens / Eternalize (1-1)

Planned Changes:

Diabolic Tutor -1; Painful Lesson +1 (really strong in that deck)

I'm dubious about Flame Lash. When I got it in the tournament it was so useful (I killed a Chandra with it)... But still "normally" a flavor card.Cut proved to be good too, maybe I should get 3 and remove the Lash.

Sideboard: Fatal Push out (suprisingly, I have enough cards to manage creatures already), Ashes of the Abhorrent OR Crook of Condemnation x2 in. The choice is tough, in play Ribbons and Ashes would lock it.

Any advice?

Me likey likey!

Im thinking of the same concept as your deck but with Glorious End. End their turn, bolt myself then exchange their life totals. sweet! lol

Cut // Ribbons seems great over flame lash, if the opponent doesn't derp with Chandra by casting something else or moving phases, you can't flame lash it before it activates anyway. Ribbons gives you another easy out.

Ashes is bad if you use it here I think cause it gives your opponent control over their health (they kill your /their own stuff in response to axis trigger) and it blanks your Ribbons. It also does nothing to Scarab good, so I think crook or one of the other graveyard haters work better in your favor.

Another option in the lash spot is maybe Hazoret?

Keep us posted on your progress!

@ dpsnedd: Ribbons does not damage opponent, it causes loss of life. therefore I cannot damage a planeswalker with it, and not even a creature (but with Cut, yes). Lash can do all for a decent price. But I still feel it like a flavor card.

I removed Hazoret from my sideboard because I don't own any, but it can be useful indeed. You may discard your useless cards with it, lower opponent's hp and planeswalker's loyalty, and it resists to wrath (including my own). So I think I'll look for one.

I feel like I need more wraths too. "Creature only" decks are really dangerous.

I'll make another showdown tournament , we'll see.

Hello "followers" :)

For las saturday showdown tournament, I removed an Axis, Flame Lash, one Glorifier and tutor to include more control (see updated current list) but as I could have foreseen it , it resulted in a less combo oriented play and more aggro/PW.

That time I made "only" 2 - 2. Which is not so bad as my victories were against classical Temur Energy (2-1 twice) and my losses vs another rogue deck (Black Aggro that killed me with Kambal - too many hp lost - , Gonti who took my own Chandra, and the -1/-1 -counters deserts killed my Vanguards ...), which won the tournament, and Tokens (thanks to the clever sideboarding of Kefnet ...).

Still, I took at least a match vs each deck, my losses were really close, and that was pretty enjoyable (which is essential in a game...) and playable even vs official metagame. I realized I lost all rounds where I did not have the toss, too... HP control can be quite difficult sometimes :)

No Ramunap Red, again, so I still don't know.

What about vraskas contempt? They knock your Gideon when your negative and you loose the game... This deck seems like a good idea, but mabye could use some counter removal?

October 16, 2017 9:56 a.m.

Mannu_1978 says... #23

ikaros0101 that s why I have discard in the sideboard. Without blue no choice. I could test a jeskai version as everything else is boros. I will miss painful lesson though. And cut//ribbons. Less speed, less flavor, less interaction, but more control.

Bigger tournament last saturday, 3 wins 2 losses.

Won vs: vampires aggro, UB control, Sultai energy

Lost vs: Ramunap (twice...) but it was close. 2 1 vs black splashed and 2 0 pure red.I did not have a lot of luck on wrath draw, and mulliganed 3 times. Still maybe I need 2 or 3 sideboard cards.

All games were enjoyable (for me at least)
