Hello

Last saturday I tried -1x Glorifier of Dusk -1x Glorybringer ; +1 gideon +1 Sweltering suns.

I won ws Mono red and ... mill. I lost vs another mono red (but 2-1; manadeath for the last one. I won the first match blasting him out with a Painful Lesson, that was fun) and Second Sun (we piled up Gideons and cast outs..) . So 2/2.

The change was not that efficient, but the deck resulted cheaper so why not.I'll probably explore some other possibilities now.

Thanks for your help and support.

hmm I guess, try to change Adanto Vanguard into Glint-Sleeve Siphoner then Gonti's Machinations...it slows down your life loss but it disguises your hidden wincon. if you keep on using adanto vanguard, they will have a clue on what are you trying to achieve.

too bad for me I don't have Chandra in hand so I replaced it with Vance's Blasting Cannons  Flip. its doable though.

you might also consider Exquisite Archangel. its expensive but it guarantees you a reset if in case youre about to lose.

well, these are my suggestions to your deck...im still simulating your deck and try to find efficient ways to win.

usurphling Well in fact Vanguard is used many times for aggro reasons. It survives my board wipe, and once coast clear, Gideon + Vanguard swing... And if I swapped lives before, this is game. It's very strong by itself and I would probably play them if I went Boros control only.

I have made 4 tournaments in the same place with recurring 20-25 players so now they all now I'm playing this

Overall result is not bad. This pack proved to be good vs any kind of matchups except WU control which is really hard (-0-4 for vanguards, Settle the Wreckage vs Gids, counterspells vs combo and after 20 turns of Gideons/Cast outs I end up dead ) and of course ramunap, which is much less a threat with 7 wrathes on mainboard though.

The thing is that all adjustments make it less good vs some decks and stronger vs others and balancing it fairly is hard. It has a lot of tools indeed but I have to draw them. Sideboard being the key here IMO. Example "only" 2 Lost Legacy does not ensure that you draw them vs Second Sun or Scarab God. And depending on the matchup it's a dead card or a silver bullet.

Thanks for the hints anyway. I'll probably change decks for a while not because I dislike my deck, it's really cool, but as a rogue player I need to find some other Janky combos and interactions :)

Black mana not being a problem at late game, i'm questionning a 4th Cut // Ribbons. It's a really powerful card in this deck and even in creatureless matchups you can discard it casting it on a indestructible Gids.

I moved back Gid's Intervention in Sideboard for the 4th Cast out, 1 random win vs say Second sun is not enough vs Cast out's versatility.

Any idea? Who can make the Cut? (haha sorry)

I made the revision (current list is the one I played today) and WON the tournament! Yay. At last.

Matchups:

UB Control / Hailfire: No chance to win in first game, I conceded after going to topdeck mode and too many counterspells. G2 & 3 were easier thanks to heavy discard sideboarding. He conceded G3 after Lost Legacy (sorry :s). 2-1, 2 wins through the Axis/Vanguard Combo.

Temur Energy: The normal classical Temur build. Control was not very hard thanks to my board sweepers and spot removals. I never went below 5 hp. I made the combo in Game 1. For G2, I sideboarded the Axis out, because I feared some Enchantment and countermagic control and went for a faster aggro play. And it worked very easily. 2-0.

Ramunap Red: It went very well. For once, I correcly drew my board sweepers and I could make the combo twice and before he gets me. I finished him with Painful Lesson G1, which is always fun. I put Abrades in for G2, removing the Lessons and one cast out. I was in danger only on the last turn, he would have won with an Azoret draw. But he did not, so 2-0, and a lot of Red and Artefacts casualties. He was a very nice and fun player as always (thx).

Token Procession: Another rogue deck like me! It went as planned. I casted out the procession in G1 and was able to run the combo T6. For G2 I put the discard in (lost legacy and Duress) and I was able to remove his counterspells and Processions. I made the combo a few turns later, and finished the tournament first.

As usual, interactive and fun gameplay all the day.

Combo decks are not dead ! GP players, try this ! Winrate 14W-1D-6L.

usurphling:

Mana acceleration: Manalith, Cultivator's Caravan

Damage: Hazoret the Fervent

Card Advantage: vance's blasting cannons

Maybe the latest... Chandra is so versatile...

2-2 only today

Not that bad though as my losses were 1-2 against sultai and azorius.

But for the first time I had colordeath problems, mainly for red. I guess this is the setback of playing 3 colors.

So this is how I made the deck without Chandra. I would just list the ones that are different in your current build:

2x Vona, Butcher of Magan

1x Noxious Gearhulk

3x Painful Lesson

2x Fumigate

2x Settle the Wreckage

3x Gonti's Machinations

1x Arguel's Blood Fast

1x Vance's Blasting Cannons  Flip

what do you think on those cards?

Mannu_1978 says... #10

As far as i'm concerned: vona is too expensive. So is the Gearhulk. But they are ways to get hp back... I think Vona would be far better in an BW aggro build full of lifelink (vampire tribal with the combo in).

Painful lesson: 3 is probably the right number. I went to 2 to test Cut but likely 3/3 is better.

Fumigate x2: another one of my dilemmas. Maybe 2 settle the Wreckage, 2 fumigates and 3 Sweltering Suns are ok.

Gonti's machinations: if you play energy forget about painful lesson and go for Live Fast. Nice alternative for a finisher (and I would probably play them in a BW build)

Arguel: 1 is ok. More than 2 is too much, it's expensive to use comparing to draw spells like Lessons or Live fast.

Vance: Ok. I would play 2 without chandra.

Update after last tournament, but it will really depend on the matchups..

-1 Plains Mainboard

+1 Stone Quarry Mainboard (too many red manadeaths)

-1 Sweltering Suns Mainboard, -1 Settle the Wreckage Mainboard

+2 Fumigate Mainboard (hp control / hard removal)

Deck still doing ok - Lost to monored only but with still a decent chance of winning.Top 8 in a 20+ tournament.

I tried Hazoret in sideboard vs control but met only Aggro (Cats, Temur, Ramunap).Ramunap won the tournament (1st and I think 2nd too)

Settle the Wreckage Vs Fumigate really depends on the matchup and your opponent's way of playing... Choice for wraths is still tough. Feel like 5 cmc is a lot.

I tried the boros version and made another 3-1.

I lost to UW control (without black, it's more difficult) and won vs a Rakdos control, Temur Energy, and Grixis. Same mechanics but definitely not the same deck so I won't put it into the statistics.

Energy Variant here, this will probably be my next attempt: Axis of Mortality Combo energy version

Geez... ramunap ruins banned. 2 more mountains? Too bad i cant flip rhe boros pathnof meetle, I would have liked it.

Too bad for temur too :p this deck was my favourite casualty. Anyway I expect even more weenie horde decks now. That will make some room for mine hopefully.

I should change solemnity for something else, not sure it will be very useful now.

Any ideas or comments?

Changes made, first RIX tournament, and a great 4 1 today. We finished tied and shared 1st place loot :)

Wins: Monoblack aggro, merfolk, constrictor and grixis scarab god

Loss: g3 jund vehicles (I admit that landing Galtha with heart of kiran is strong.

I added a fourth chandra on sideboard and did not regret it.

Winrate up!

Hello

Thanks a lot FlabbyAbs :)

If any of you have ideas of the positive evolutions or the new threats for this deck in the coming metagame Im curious. I noticed one Rakdos control with a similar defensive shell as mine had won in MTGO according to mtgtop8. There are different evolutions I could do.

First one is just playing energy cards to use Aether Hubs (live fast instead of painful lesson, or harnessed lightning instead of lightning strike, or both).

Second one is other plainswalkers. Angrath, the Flame-Chained could be nice, as well as Huatli, Warrior Poet. If I played the Aether Hubs (see point 1) I could add Vraska, Relic Seeker or even Nicol Bolas, God-Pharaoh Himself. The latest could even be a substitute wincon of sideboarding. Remove the 4 Axis/vanguard, add 3 Nicol Bolas and one Chandra, and 4 Duress for example.

Third one is adding resilient cards to wrathes instead of a little control. Like the new Rekindling Phoenix which seems nice to me, or getting one or two Hazoret mainboard.

What do you think?

Any other idea?

Mannu_1978 says... #20

usurphling : Azor's Gateway can be a substitute for Chandra in some way. It filters combo and provides mana. Likely not so much mana :) but at least 2 to cast the Axis. And after the life switch... you may cast a 20 damage Ribbons hahaha. That's so brutal.

Mannu_1978 says... #21

3-1 today

Loss: Grixis scarab god (the new energy version, seemingly the same as Kenta Kimura, but 2-1 and very close on the third)

Wins: UR aggro, Monoblack aggro, Procession/Scarab God, all 2-0.

That darn Scarab god is getting Rampant! ...

Still a very good winrate.

Hey, I put this together and plan to play it this friday. I have made a few changes with sideboard cards and mainboard. Mainly, I want one phoenix in the deck for game 1. I am trying with 2 chandra. I like the deck a lot so far. I want to test Blood fast and Azor's Gateway as they look pretty neat.

I will let you know how it goes with testing and performance on friday. I will also update what changes I make in the sideboard and stuff so you can reference it to see what it does to deal with my meta.

Thanks for sharing, I was looking for interesting combos in these colors and am glad to have found a cool Idea I hope to help grow and develop.

Thanks!

Ah and I forgot: if you play gateway (instead of 1 chandra I suppose) you'll have to substitute at least the Lightning Strikes for 1 drops. Your choice, all have pros and cons. Shock, Fatal Push, Duress maindeck, Magma Spray are what comes to mind first.
