Second place.

2-0 against GW Vampires1-2 against Sultai Journey2-0 against Simic Merfolk

I love the deck. my one loss came from a really bad draw and must have been my lack of proper randomization, Ended up drawing both Chandra, all four gideon and three of the axis.

Ended up just having too many dead cards.

I absolutely love the deck and my current Rate in testing here at my local meta is 8-1. I am loving it!

I have rekindling phoenix at 1 and I find it to be a great backup finisher if you take too much damage before you can get combo online and need to win before you dig.

I am looking at the deck more and more and trying to see if there are some main deck adjustments to make.

At this point, the only downside I see is sometimes you draw all your higher CMC cards and struggle to keep up against aggro. I want to adjust my sideboard a bit, because I find myself often not sideboarding and I feel like some card choices for my meta might make more sense. I am going to do some thinking on it this week and I will update you with what my thoughts are.

I am thinking of trying "The Immortal Sun" in the sideboard, for the matchups where you REALLY need the card advantage. What are your thoughts?

Locking pw in a pw deck may not be a good idea...

Chandra x3 is important to generate card advantage and ramp for mana. You can try treasure map but early vanguard or blasts is better imo.

Aggro stays our best casualty. 4 sweltering suns, 3 strikes, 4 cut is plenty for early wipe. With the settle the wreckage even ramunap is not safe.

If you want extra draw outlets, I would use azors gateway. You can use discard too. Arguels blood fast may help but i still prefer lessons.

As many current decks t1 is tapland so i dont feel the need to play 1 drops. But you can try. If your meta has a lot of scroungers burn them.

Sideboard depends on your local meta. You can go for a 2 of each and a more generic list.

I just don't own the third Chandra yet. I do agree with most of what you are saying for sure. I just have to change a few side board options for some of my local meta of course.

I am going to continue testing to find out what I most need, and will continue updating you with progress if you like?

went 2-2 tying for third place after playoffs happened.

I ended up losing to a weird red black aggro list that ended up being able to eventually beat me on turn 5 of turns. SUPER CLOSE.

In the playoffs I lost 0-2 to a Jeskai PURE control. Approach of the second suns beat me first game, second game i used gideons intervention on sun and we went to turns again, me eventually losing to about 476 counter spells and not being able to resolve any threats. He also had exile effects on adanto's and over all it was just a big Grind.

I am super happy with how the deck is performing, and I had fun except for the last game against jeskai where we had 39 lands in play between the both of us. It was pretty long and boring.

I will be adjusting the sideboard a bit to deal with heavier control matchups. I am confident that the deck isn't being beat, and I am not being outplayed. Losses are mainly coming from bad variance. So thats pretty awesome!

Hi CactusTravis

sorry I didn't play this week end (flu :) ) so no results.

Yeah Jeskai/UW is pretty hard to win against. You need a very good discard sideboard to crush it... and as nearly creatureless most of this deck strenghts are diminished in efficiency. Rule never attack (but play them) with 2 vanguards/gideons at the same time unless you have a backup plan (like a discard to remove the Settle the Wreckage first). Use Gid's emblem the turn you play them. And don't hesitate to launch Cut on your own Gids. This may turn into fireballs when the game is stalled.Of course Chandra is a very strong card against UWx control too.

Have fun,Emmanuel

went 2-1-1 this weekend. I lost only to a UG Merfolk list 1-2, Due mainly to bad variance.

I also had a Draw against Orzhov Vampires as well as a 2-0 against a Rakdos Pirates list.

Overall, I feel like in almost all matchups I have a solid matchup and only in the few fringe matches (Like getting lost legacy cast on me 3 times... by vampires) and I love the deck. Magma Spray in the sideboard is a must for my meta. Full playset.

Currently 12-4-1

i LOVE this deck, thinking about actually picking up a copy of it today. ofcourse, after swapping a few things for local meta lol my question is why there is 61 cards? What did you feel you needed an extra copy of and why? im asking because id like to try and see the deck from your view, as you created it!

Hi MyNameIsErrl !

I need an extra copy of.. Land. I always put one extra land, you can remove it. It's my own "brand".

Fatal pushes I tried but they were useless. Moment of Craving is far better today if you really want something vs rdw. I don't need them because there are plenty of board wipes, and all spells must have one of those characteristics: mass removal, direct damage to opponent, cycling. The rest can be good but not synergic enough.

This deck is plenty of fun! have a try.

thank you so much for the quick reply! we have a very competitive magic scene here where im at, and im looking for a good, yet fun playing deck (fun by a cool win condition) and i think this will be the one I use. Any additional advice for playing the deck in the utmost correct way? Im sure one thing is to be versatile and flexible with my plays. Which top meta deck is the biggest problem for you? and also, if they legacy your win condition, how do you sideboard to keep them off the game? I noticed you mentioned being able to change the deck type up by sideboarding, so my question is does this technique work most of the time? Im sorry Im asking so many questions, I just tend to delve into stuff like this lol. Thanks for replying again!

Hi

They will probably not lost legacy the Axis. Gideon and Chandra are pretty threatening on their own. And cast out a versatile card they will be tempted to get.

If you go aggro/control add say 2 hazoret one chandra and a Dragon/phoenix or any combo of those cards. If you go discard get your own lost legacies and duresses.

There are plenty of game plans and fortunately all cards can be used whatever the opponent.

Heavy control decks are the toughest. You can go around settle the wreckage but vs ub control, with vraskas contempt and moment of craving, it can be hard. Get gids intervention, lost legacy and discard in. Get rid of scarab god and gearhulk and blast his face.

Dont forget your main pinger is the opponent. Managing the damage you take is often enough. I won a game at gp side event with a cast out because instead of taking 26 damage I took 18. As usual a ribbons was in the graveyard and... his huge attack killed himself at the end.

Find your own tricks, tempt opponent for bad moves. Its so easy with this deck. Say put gids emblem instead of locking a target. Opponent will attack, then settle the wreckage.

@mynameiserrl

I often get the first lost legacy targeting gideon. Then Chandra. Smart opponents name Cut. As Mannu stated, heavy control is really tough to resolve a win con against and in those matchups I agree, the discard package is a must. I also like phoenix here because it forces bad tempo plays to deal wit it against most decks.

Super low to the ground creature decks, particularly ones that can keep drawing cards such as merfolk can give you trouble too since they rebuild after board wipes better and I find R/B aggro can be tough if you can't exile their recursive threats. Magma Spraw and Baffling End are my sideboard choices for that matchup.

It really is meta-specific on which cards are going to be the best choice for you. I suggest running the standard list for a week or two and make adjustments. I have been topping with the deck for the last month and people are starting to board against me so I have to change it up a bit myself.

If you have a very aggressive environment and want to exile creatures rather than being aggressive yourself, you can go for a sideboard plan like this. I prefer Hour of Glory (or Ixalan's Binding) to Vraska's Contempt because of the 2 blacks and the playability vs Scarab God/Hazoret. You can try and forget the Abrades for 2 more Magma Spray but yet I'd prefer to keep them as long as Mardu Vehicules is around. Dispossess is great to get rid of Scroungers too.Really depends on your local meta but I think Mardu can do it all.

2x Abrade

1x Dispossess

2x Magma spray

1x Hour of Glory

1x Doomfall

3x Duress

1x Settle the Wreckage

2x Gideon's Intervention

2x Lost Legacy

Well, I ended up adding another phoenix to the side board and got my third chandra this week so yay!

I went 3-1 to get second place in this weeks FNM making my record 15-5-1.

First match of the week was against Vampire Tribal, I won 2-0

Second Match was God Pharoah's Gift which I won 2-1

Third match was against a weird standard Pia's Revolution Egg's deck that I couldn't interact with at all and lost to combo both times on turn 5, 0-2

Fourth match was Simic Merfolk that beat me the prior week and I didn't get bad draws this time and won 2-1.

I am happy with the deck. Its tons of fun! My best advice is, change it to deal with your local meta while maintaining the core strats that Mannu has developed for the deck, and most importantly, change the deck list when people start to sideboard against you for winning so much!

Also, I saw GPG was running around so I moved 2 abrade in main board. Made all the difference.
