Drop the Guildgate. You already have 2 dual-lands that will enter untapped. Why slow yourself down and not gain anything through it?

Chronic Flooding is very mediocre. I'd add 2 more Jace, Memory Adept , another Increasing Confusion , and a fourth Supreme Verdict .

i like the Chronic Flooding early in the game when the opponent doesn't have many lands to work with, so it makes them choose whether or not to wait another turn to work around it. i think fitting another Jace, Memory Adept would be good, though. maybe i could take out Archon of the Triumvirate to make room for another Planeswalker. i just know getting my hands on two Jaces is going to be challenging.

With all the crazy Blood Artist s, graveyard and indestructible shenanigans running about, would it be good if Terminus was included? I'd run a 3-2 split between Supreme Verdict and Terminus , depending on the metagame.

Also, the guildgate looks like it'd be dragging your deck down, making it slower, when you already have so many duals.

If you're going for a control feel you'll need 25-26 land in the deck.

I agree that I could use more mana but its not necessarily uber control... i want it to have some fight in it with the bigger creatures. Geist of Saint Traft is the earliest real attacker, with the Azorius Arrester s clearing the way for him, and a board wipe once in a while is okay as long as I can blink a creature back with Cloudshift . Jace is around to help me draw cards, and since I have a decent amount of card draw I may want another Righteous Authority maybe? But yea I should make more room for lands.

MOAR LAND. If you pull a two land hand with a terminus and supreme verdict, plus maybe an isperia, you will be sad... ;(

I would drop the Cloudshift s for a few more counterspells. You should also consider playing Sleep instead of Blustersquall (I love the art on blustersquall).

And Oblivion Ring is much better than Arrest , and should be a 4-of.

If you want to go with a more aggressive tap out style of control, you may want to look into Dungeon Geists and possibly card:Runechanter's Pike.

Just my thoughts, I generally play UB control though, so I'm not very fmiar with uw control decks. Good luck with it :)

looking at what i have here, what specific counterspells do you think i could use? i have a pair of Divine Deflection s that have been begging for some play, for example. and i have 3 Dungeon Geists but i'd hate to see them get board-wiped by my own spells after paying 4 mana for 'em.

Divine Deflection would be super funny, they thought they were dealing damage, and then you kill their creature or to their face.

For counters, you can't go wrong with a couple Syncopate for a turn two counter, and the last Dissipate , if not then Essence Scatter can still counter all those creatures that are dominating standard.

With Dungeon Geists you can lock down their biggest threat, then use it as a blocker or it can attack into an empty board. Then once they build a board presence and geists has done some work killing little guys, making them unable to attack, or eating their life total, you should be able to board wipe still feeling ahead because the geists were able to stall for you and get you ahead

22 lands is not enough. You will never cast Judge. You need 23-25 lands.

October 25, 2012 10:49 p.m.

Demarge says... #11

no as a control deck he'll want 25-26 land, any less and he'll still have common land issues.

You should try adding up few more Terminus . Will help a lot agains aggro. Much more than Supreme Verdict .

Also you said you wanted control, so you sure need Tamiyo, the Moon Sage . The is one of the best for this. And lets not forget Jace, Architect of Thought . He'll sure make a lot of difference.

October 26, 2012 9:15 a.m.

jermtube says... #13

Tamiyo, the Moon Sage would be nice if I had some Feeling of Dread with her -2 ability... wow control decks can get expensive... Is there a layman's solution for Geist of Saint Traft ? I'd love a pair but can't find anybody, online or in person, who would trade me one or two, and buying them online is out of the question. That 3-slot is pretty important, and since I'd like to do some attacking around that turn, I'd like an alternative to the Saint.

October 26, 2012 1:48 p.m.

Rarfaelz says... #14

Lol. Sure it can get really expensive, But the first abilitie for Tamiyo, the Moon Sage really holds up, and her ultimate wins the game.

In my control deck, i was facing a similar problem. Geist of Saint Traft just got too expensive. So i'll run +2 Invisible Stalker , +1 Angelic Overseer and + 1 Avacyn, Angel of Hope . Just as alternative method. The main will still be Sorin, Lord of Innistrad . I splashed some Black to help me hold up the aggros.Don't forget to add in yours Jace, Architect of Thought . He's a true game changer.

Azorius Arrester is usually awful. his detain makes him want to play later, his wimpy body make him not last very long. He can, open up the lane for three-drops. like Geist and Stealer of Secrets

It's not Geist, but at the 3 drop it is hard to beat Lyev Skyknight , because as a multi-color detain spell it is not limited to creatures.

i recently decided i didn't want the Arresters. i would like a 2-drop creature so i was wondering about the New Prahv Guildmage s. i thought they would be good for giving the Guardians of Akrasa Flying, so that i can block with them better as well as use their Exalted trigger for Isperia, Supreme Judge . And since they're multicolored, they can Detain permanents late game.

pookypuppy6 says... #17

The Guardians of Akrasa are not really so essential that you have to give them flying, unless you are defending against a flying beatstick; hell, Dungeon Geists are better flying attackers. But for the detain, I would probably take those New Prahv Guildmage s anyway. Late-game detain could be very useful.

November 2, 2012 3:45 p.m.

jermtube says... #18

yea the Exalted trigger is really their function. i just playtested this deck against my Rakdos deck and it holds off pretty well. i ended up using the New Prahv Guildmage 's 5cmc Detain trigger pretty often, so its relevant after all.

Cyclonic Rift > Unsummon .

I'd run more Terminus than Supreme Verdict , so maybe add a third Terminus ? More board-wipes can never hurt. Just take out Banishing Stroke for it. Terminus is better in almost every situation.

Detention Sphere > Oblivion Ring .

If you need a good 2-drop spell, Think Twice is always a solid choice. Things like Righteous Blow would also be good choices, if not for the sideboard.

I have a feeling this deck has changed dramatically since when I last commented, I would suggest going into the update section and hide old comments.

Demarge says... #21

I'd have to say the Aven Squire might not be the best fit for your current build, it's quite possible Knight of Glory would be a better fit if you feel the deck really needs a 2 drop. Though I personally feel more control or more high end threats might work better ( you currently have only 3 end game bombs), but I can't really think of any good cheap bombs.

jermtube says... #22

its tough trying to do something new and still have a decent chance of winning against a cookie-cutter deck, but i'm trying, haha. what other control cards do you think i'm missing? i know somebody is going to say, "add Detention Sphere s" or "get more Terminus es in there." i was hoping for an Exalted big flyer but my ears are open regardless.

Demarge says... #23

well off the top of my head I keep running into wanting to suggest Sigarda, Host of Herons as another finisher, but she'd probably require too much in changes for the deck and currently there's no especially strong white planeswalker for control to go to ( though Ajani would pose a problem to control and act as a tank against aggro).

i humored the idea of putting Bruna, Light of Alabaster into here and having lots of Ethereal Armor but that took up too many slots that needed to be filled with control cards. it just wasn't the right deck for Bruna.

card:Sphinx's Revelation is super powerful in this deck type if you can afford it. Negate and Dispel are both good sideboard options.
