I've scrapped the whole Immortal Servitude gimmick. Last night I wrecked a local FNM in my first attempt at standard.
Round 1: BR Vampires 2-0
The guy's mana was really bad and I overwhelmed him both games with 5/5 Demons.
Round 2: Boros Aggro 2-0
Another easy win. He could never race or burn me because of Blood Artist . Game one I overwhelmed him generating tokens with Sorin, Lord of Innistrad out and a Tajic, Blade of the Legion forcing him to chump block instead of go on the offensive. Game two he played a couple random battalion guys each turn after casting his Legion Loyalist turn one. I set up my board with a turn one Doomed Traveler , turn two Cartel Aristocrat , and a turn three Boros Reckoner . He couldn't attack or else the aristocrat would kill something via traveller sac. He passed the turn. Turn four I drop Blood Artist and Skirsdag High Priest . He passes the turn again, I play Zealous Conscripts and take his Legion Loyalist , attack with a few guys, sac his loyalist to the aristocrat and make a 5/5 demon. From there I just kept spamming demons until he was dead.
Round 3: UB Zombie Mill 2-1
This guy's deck was fairly interesting. He was running Undead Alchemist , Breaking / Entering , and Diregraf Captain . I lost game one handedly to the alchemist milling and creating an ungodly amount of zombies that just overwhelmed me.
Game two he was coming at me with Jace's Phantasm and Mindshrieker early on. He milled me quite a bit but I played a sided in Tormod's Crypt and made his phantasm a lot less painful. He never drew an Undead Alchemist and it was business as usual for my deck, going to town with Tajic, Reckoner, Cartel Aristocrat, and tokens.
Game three was grueling. I was able to get in early damage with Cartel Aristocrat and tokens. He built up board presence with Undead Alchemist creating an army of zombies. I was doing much of the same with Sorin. Luckily I got in the aforementioned early damage, because after a couple turns of mirror I played a Blood Artist and sac'd my board away for the win.
Round 4: Esper Control Tokens 2-0
This guy was really experienced and regularly plays at large tournaments. He played four copies of both Supreme Verdict and Terminus . Both games he played Ajani, Caller of the Pride and lots of Intangible Virtue and Lingering Souls . Oddly enough though, it seemed he could never compete with my board presence. Skirsdag High Priest helped a lot with that. Game one he supreme verdicted me once, but I overcame it quicker than he did and wiped him out. Game two was more of the same only he didn't draw into any board wipes. Supreme Verdict wouldn't do much for him anyway because of Blood Artist . He never played Terminus on me.
