Ayara aristocrat shiz. You know the drill. Special emphasis on Devotion to make Gary scary.

I built this deck for my then-girlfriend Darkrai073 for Halloween 2022. She has made lots of swaps since receiving the deck, but this is the original list.

Cards with an HP are proxies. Most of the deck was originally proxies. I wanted to make sure her first deck was competitive enough to not struggle against me and my friends. I also didn't want to spend a ton of money on something she might not like. She loves the deck, so she is in the process of buying most of the cards that aren't very expensive. Probably keeping The Meathook Massacre, Grave Pact, and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx an proxies for a good long while.

There is a combo with Ashnod's Altar, Pitiless Plunderer, and Reassembling Skeleton. Unlimited ETB and death triggers along with unlimited colorless mana. Wins the game with any ETB/death payoff or with Exsanguinate. The cards are good enough on their own to run by themselves, honestly.

I intentionally didn't include any tutors to simplify things and to reduce shuffling. Also, sprinting toward Plague of Rats sounds very anti-climactic. I really wanted to include Final Parting to fetch Gray Merchant of Asphodel and a graveyard-recursion piece (after all, looping Gary or Kokusho, the Evening Star is some of the most fun one can have in Magic) but decided to cut tutors. Razaketh, the Foulblooded was a late cut too. I could see re-adding Expedition Map though.

I own a Volrath's Stronghold in paper but I don't trust the deck's recipient not to damage it so it shall remain proxied. I swear I own one! I also own a Gate to Phyrexia that would be really good in this deck, but I didn't want people to think I was just going nuts with the budget because I was printing off a bunch of cards. The deck is plenty strong without it. I also have a Tombstone Stairwell that has the potential to be good, but the deck doesn't fill its own graveyard a ton so it would probably be unreliable as to how good it actually would be. I have a Carnival of Souls but I don't think the deck runs enough instants to make it worth it.

I also intentionally didn't juice the deck with generically awesome proxies like Mana Crypt, Vampiric Tutor, Mox Diamond, Yawgmoth's Will, etc.

I kinda want to squeeze in one or two more removal cards and card-draw cards. I was hoping the deck's already-good card-draw would draw into removal but it's whatever. Let those adjustments be learning opportunities for the recipient.
