I dig the super budget build aha. Was looking through other Brion decks for idea's on improving my own. Don't have many helpful suggestions for you since Don't run the budget variety but Sundial of the Infinite is probably your best friend with this deck. Say you steal something you don't want to fling. Maybe you just want to hold onto it for a few turns before you do? Just end the ol' turn with returning it on the stack and it's yours forever. Oh also works with feldon's ability as well as kiki-jiki if you ever put one in. Also fun when your opponent tries to do something at the end of your turn you can exile their tutor or fetchland crack off the stack ahaha.

Cool deck I like it a lot. Got me thinking...got some ideas.. Emeria Shepherd & Nim Deathmantle for more uses of your ball lightning cards. Conjurer's Closet can help you keep your stolen dudes around to use more before nuking them. Twilight Shepherd, True Conviction, Dictate of Heliod, To Arms!, Thousand-Year Elixir, Magewright's Stone, Thunderblust, Impetuous Devils...I bet Phyrexian Dreadnought makes its way into non budget builds, sac it with its ETB trigger on the stack. Happy gathering!

I can't recommend Reya Dawnbringer and Adarkar Valkyrie enough. Also, and I'm sure people get tired of me mentioning this one, Lifeline works well in a Brion deck, and would bring back cards like Serra Avatar and Hamletback Goliath. Yes, Lifeline works for other players, too, but you've got to figure you will get more value out of it than the others around the table will.

Could try Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker. Copy things then fling the copies.

TheHamster, Rzepkanut, bushido_man96 and Mj3913

Thank you all SO MUCH for all the suggestions! I certainly have a lot to think about haha!

Some initial thoughts though:

First, I've been trying to stray away from high white-devotion cards for a while because I mostly need red mana in this deck, BUT... once I've eventually improved my mana base(help please) I'll be able to include cards like Reya Dawnbringer, True Conviction, and Twilight Shepherd.

Second: This is still a very budget deck(which explains why the mana base has suffered so far), with no cards over $4, but the expensive cards like Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and Phyrexian Dreadnought are now on the radar because of the effect they could have in the deck.

Again, thank you all SO much! Keep the comments coming!

There are plenty of budget dual lands you can go with to improve your mana base: Boros Guildgate, Stone Quarry, Wind-Scarred Crag, and Boros Garrison are all common or uncommon, and cheap enough to add to the deck without breaking a budget. City of Brass is a popular staple for multicolor decks, and isn't too costly. Inspiring Vantage, Needle Spires, Ancient Amphitheater, Battlefield Forge, and Temple of Triumph all come in at well under $5 a piece, and most under $2. All would help you improve and balance out your mana base.

This is just a thought but Insult / Injury might be useful.

As you spend money and make trades, I suspect you'll find Blood Moon, Land Tax, Scroll Rack, Obliterate, and Sensei's Divining Top to be a better package for you than dual lands. Also, it's usually cheaper than a premium mana base.

Oh yeah, one more eventually to keep in mind: Sun Titan. Not really related to mana, but it's good for your sacrifice and recursion abilities.

This deck is basically the R/W version of Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord. I don't have a lot to say here it seems solid and like a pain to deal with I would say maybe a few more heavy hitters to sacrifice before they get killed but that's it

I see you have other copy effects, but have you considered Blade of Selves?

Looks like you're building more aggro and steal Brion. I think you would get more use out of damage doublers like Dictate of the Twin Gods and Furnace of Rath instead of double strike and your +x/+0 spells. They double the damage of the initial attack and the fling!!!

Check out my deck Do you even fling, bro? - first EDH deck. I'm still working on my commander staples collection but am stoked with how it's played so far.

Thank you all so much once again! Lots of good suggestions here!

bushido_man96 thanks for the suggestions for the lands! I'll be buying most of them this week!

TheHamster I think you sold me on Sundial of the Infinite!

Penthoplayer Scroll Rack, Land Tax, and Sensei's Divining Top have long been on my wish list(especially for my Narset deck) but I won't be spending that much money on this deck for now haha! Sun Titan is certainly a white staple, but I don't have enough creatures it could target to warrant running him. Thank you though!

xander11 I had never thought of the comparison with Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord. Interesting. Maybe I'll have to make a deck with him too!

Mj3913 Blade of Selves I looked at but is out for three reasons: I don't go to a LGS so I just play with one or two of my friends, making the effect less powerful, the 4 equip cost, and the over $5 price tag. None of these are a huge deal but all of them together...

MoGoose831 Your deck was one of my early inspirations before I had even bought Brion! Yeah, I'm still torn on the two different paths, +x/+0 or double damage? I'll have to keep testing.

Hey, I'd just like to throw out a couple suggestions:

I don't think you need Hammer of Purphoros here, you are better off running Lightning Greaves.

Grafted Wargear may be a good one too and could replace a instant power boost spell since it's a repeatable +3 boost.

Sigil of the New Dawn is a budget option if you find yourself running out of gas too quickly. I'd probably say Mimic Vat is a must though.

Key to the City is also great here.

That's all I can think of atm, good luck!

Malignus is a pretty decent card. Getting a 15/15 or 20/20 that you can chuck at someone's face is pretty decent, for the cost. It's a better use of a card slot than Crumbling Colossus at least you lost trample but gain a lot more power to be tossed at someone's face).

Phyrexian Processor is superb in this deck. You gain a lot of life, much of the time, so generating 20/20+ tokens every turn and then chucking them at people to gain 20+ life is hilarious.

Suns_Champion says... #20

dlamars Thanks for the comment! Yeah, I'm probably gonna bite the bullet and buy Lightning Greaves. RIP $5 budget. Grafted Wargear is on the list! Thanks! Sigil of the New Dawn I didn't find helpful, as I'm usually out of mana by the time they hit the GY. Mimic Vat has worked okay. Thanks again!

PookandPie Both cards I am now considering! Thank you! For Phyrexian Processor I would just need 9 mana the turn I play it or else it's too risky... I'll have to play test it.

Back with more under $5 suggestions for you Karmic Guide for some more recursion. Brion like recursion. Yosei, the Morning Star 5 damage + essentially makes an opponent skip their next turn. Selfless Squire Suprise fogs into a big dude you can throw the damage they were going to deal to you back at them. This one is TECHNICALLY over $5 but i kinda deem as an essential. Balefire Liege pumps all your dudes for more throwing power, turns Brion and all your other multi-colored spells into a Lightning Helix in addition to whatever they were. and just adds all around value, so if you were to ever break the $5 rule. high recommend for that. And I know I already convinced you but another cool thing about Sundial of the Infinite is that with it and you're Ball Lightning type creatures, say something went wrong and you dont have a way to sack it with Brion. you can use sundial to keep them around by ending the turn with the sac it at the end of turn effect on the stack. also it goes infinite with Isochron Scepter + Final Fortune for infinite turns in mono red.

Do you have a good method for multiple activations of Brion in a turn? If so Insurrection could be right up your alley, potentially turning your opponent's board state to nothing, or just finishing them anyway.

Suns_Champion says... #23

TheHamster Welcome back haha! Thanks for those suggestions! Selfless Squire I considered, but I never felt the need for him. I normally die after multiple strikes from my friend's commanders haha. Balefire Liege is great but somewhat over budget, so I didn't pick it up. Which I could for all my boros decks haha

brokendwarf thanks for the comment! I have Illusionist's Bracers and Thornbite Staff, both of which float in and out of the 99 and sideboard. Problem is they're aren't repeatable as I'd like, so spending 8 mana then trying to spend more to sac creatures is hard. but if Thornbite Staff was attached to Bloodshot Cyclops...

It looks like the deck should run a lot smoother for you now! Nice updates!

June 17, 2017 2:19 p.m.

This deck needs 100% more Knollspine Dragon. I know it's a $5 and not $4, but the 1 extra is definitely worth. Hell, you could probably pick up a moderately played version for 4.
