Balan, Wandering Badass EDH

Commander / EDH

SubPuppet

For my first ever competitive EDH deck I decided to choose Balan, Wandering Knight . I know there are better voltron commanders, but I have two very good reasons for picking Balan over someone like Rafiq of the Many or Uril, the Miststalker .

  • One thing Balan has over other voltron commanders is that she can equip at instant speed. As an example for how this could be a good thing, let's say you're swinging with 2 creatures, if Balan wasn't blocked you can equip all your equipment for more damage than the opponent may have expected. This instant speed equip ability is the main reason I chose him to be my commander.

  • Another thing Balan has over most of the other voltron commanders is that she isn't very well known, which already starts you off in a better place than someone playing a commander like Thraximundar or Zur, the Enchanter . I think people really underestimate your commander if they don't recognize it immediately, or they don't consider it powerful.

I know the deck doesn't look great, but I plan on taking suggestions and amping it up as much as possible until I am happy with it. Let me know what you think, and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Potential Upgrades: Sword of Feast and Famine, Sword of Fire and Ice, Stonehewer Giant, Stoneforge Mystic, Ancient Den, Darksteel Plate, Nahiri the Lithiomancer, Mentor of the Meek

The alter I commissioned for Balan came today and holy shit it looks good. I am definitely getting another one sometime in the near future. I would highly recommend them.
