I playtested a deck similar to this. Jori En really helped, I also ran a playset of fiery impulse for extra burn/removal. I also ran uncaged fury for more damage.

@BDAMaster I had Jori En in at first, she was a bit too slow for my liking, and uncaged fury might be a good addition, just not sure I like the cost, might be too slow as well. Thanks for the input!

I love it.

I played a similar deck, and Mage-Ring Bully is a great combo with Slip Through Space. I'd suggest adding two more of those in there.

@krunchyfrogg: check the updates. after testing a bit i think i like 2 more Negate better than 2 more Slip Through Space. maybe its because i just faced a lot of control decks... doesn't mean it might not change again in the future :) thanks for the feedback

I was playing this on Gameday and also a different version of it back when OGW came out. My biggest issue was burn out, but cards like Expedite and Slip Through Space, while useful, are kind of negated by the natural abilities of the elusive spellfist and stormchaser mage, so I opted for other cheap spells and I find as long as you can draw cards, you should be fine. But it's also good to make your opponent think you have few creatures, move in with an elusive, give him haste, and bam, prowess+prowess+prowess+prowess+prowess+prowess + uncaged fury = ROUND WIN

But not always, :(

I love this deck!

Also sorry for another comment but at game day, people were giving me Jori En to use because they wanted to see how she does in this deck.

However, I am replacing her with Fevered Visions and its working well.

Just a suggestion here but Zada, Hedron Grinder would go pretty well in this deck

personally, i would rather use Umara Entangler over Mage-Ring Bully because of the "attacks each turn if able" clause on bully. i think losing that and 1 defense is better in my opinion, although you will want to attack almost every turn, anyway. i think the value in the choice is worth 1 toughness. this could be playtested to determine which is better overall instead of individual situations, though. idk i like the deck though +1

@mr_funk thanks for your comment! As I mentioned in the description, Mage-Ring Bully, Sanguinary Mage, Umara Entangler and Abbot of Keral Keep are pretty interchangeable. I personally like Mage-Ring Bully the best because of the extra power. However Umara Entangler and Sanguinary Mage are safe from Dead Weight, and safe from Fiery Impulse, Fiery Temper, Radiant Flames, Grasp of Darkness and Languish with just one spell - for example Rush of Adrenaline.

Pick the one you like most :)

It'll break your $30 budget but Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh  Flip would be amazing in these decks. I know because I also run an Izzet deck for Standard play

@Zaueski: Thanks! Put her in the SB, if I decide to move this deck from aggro to more of a midrange deck, I might add her. She does look quite fun to play :)

Zaueski says... #12

The important thing to understand about Chandra is her flip clause... if you attack and buff her to deal 5 damage she untaps (effectively vigilant) and then can tap dealing 6. She only checks her damage after you use her ability. That flips her and thats 8 damage for one spell during combat

Dance of the Skywise gives evasion, triggers prowess for other creatures and makes a single creature a 4/4. and still have Prowess triggers on the stack waiting to resolve.

If helps get through that extra damage. Your own meta may determine which cards it replaces or what cards you scale back numbers on to slip a few Dance of the Skywise in.

@keevel: Huh, interesting. I never thought of that interaction. Dance of the Skywise on Elusive Spellfist makes it a 5/4 unblockable. I might see what spell I can cut for it!

I had a deck very similar to this, and I used 2-3 Uncaged Furys in the deck. Let's say you put it on a Stormchaser Mage, that is 6 damage right there. It only gets better when you buff it up with Rush of Adrenaline or Titan's Strength.

@Jamerz_Gamerz: Yeah, it's in the Maybeboard. I tested it, and personally found it to be too slow :(

Jamerz_Gamerz says... #17

Ah, makes sense. My deck wasn't that based off of winning as fast as possible. It was focused on preparing for a turn where I can just explode off and win a single turn by 20ing my opponent.

Hey this deck looked really fun and cheap so i just ordered all of the cards online with the sideboard and everything. The only thing is that i couldn't get any of the fiery impulses. What do you suggest i replace them with for now? along with the sideboard i also have 2 fevered visions as well as 2 dual shots from the maybe board.

June 12, 2016 3:07 p.m.

loltill says... #19

It is one of the best spells, unfortunately. Just play the two Dual Shot and add two Brute Strength.

June 12, 2016 8:15 p.m.

i play tested this deck and got demolished good deck .

it's a $40 budget deck, you're not going to win 10/10 against gw tokens. let's be a little bit realistic here...

July 12, 2016 4:03 p.m.

i no alot of op budget decks. my friends has an budget elf deck its just relentless.

July 12, 2016 4:14 p.m.

Have you thought of replacing Sanguinary Mage with Mercurial Geists, for two more mana you get evasion and a repeatable power buff?

July 17, 2016 1:30 p.m.

beakedbard says... #24

Wouldn't Turn Aside be better than Negate in most situations? Also if you want to make it less budget replace Jori En, Ruin Diver or some of the weaker prowess cards with Bedlam Reveler.

July 19, 2016 7:12 a.m.

Noctem says... #25

The card advantage provided by Jori En, Ruin Diver is important though. Bedlam Reveler is an interesting mid-late game card however sacrificing potential card draw is probably not what you want to do. Replacing Jori with another creature/spell that would provide more guaranteed card draw or perhaps more direct card draw would be preferable.

As for replacing Negate, that could be an interesting thing to test. You're limiting your counter range and lowering mana cost by 1. Does that lower mana cost give a big enough advantage to justify not being able to counter spells that don't specifically target your stuff. I'm not sure. But testing would be interesting.
