FNM —May 18, 2018

Huge turn-out for FNM with five rounds before cutting to top 8 and I certainly played the gauntlet of decks! I'll just add some highlights:

Only major significant loss I feel frustrated about was against U/W control: the new top tier deck is f'n annoying since it has no real win condition ... just counter, counter, counter and eventually drop a planeswalker. Game one was a wash, game two got there with some aggro help, and game three just couldn't quite do it again before I fizzled out.

This deck went VERY well against R/G monsters and a mirror (sort of) match since it was easy to control the board with heavy-hitting creatures on my side and then white removal for their heavy hitters later in the game. The mirror used Ixalan's Binding against my Shalai, but that's exactly why I use 3x Cast Out in this deck: remove your removal lol

Got there against mono-red aggro in three games, but I still haven't played against the new R/B aggro version, so I'll be on the lookout for that match-up. Three game win against mono white knights as well.

The strangest match of the night was against a home-brew R/W tokens deck that dropped a crap-ton of red elemental tokens, cats, and servo's. Honestly, his goal was to just get as many out as he could using Anointed Procession coupled with life-gain using Anointer Priest. Before the turning point of the game, he had 5x priests (grabbed 4x more from the graveyard since they have Embalm) and had over 120 life ... he didn't really have anything to remove my creatures though (he claimed he ran Settle and Fumigate, he just never drew in to one), so I just kept plugging along with my angels, gods and monsters. The game shifted when I started swinging in with Shalai's add +1/+1 counter ability and the final blow I delivered in my final turn was with 2x 13/13 angels with lifelink, a 17/17 Ghalta, 2x 8/8 Llanowar Elves, a 13/13 God, 2x, 8/8 late-game Steelleaf Champions, and a 17/17 Shanna (all backed up with 2x Walking Ballista's with removed counters to finally get rid of those pesky priests). It was insane. We only played one game ... one f'n game in 50 minutes and in to turn 4 of turns.
