Standard Showdown —May 23, 2018
I won again ... sort of ... We had a decent showing and enough to play four rounds and cut to top 8. The only match I lost to was U/W Approach and it was a pretty fun three games (as far as playing against Control decks go).
I beat out Mono Red, G/B Constrictor, and a pretty killer Mono Black Control deck in a grueling 3-game match.
After the first round of Top 8, we all decided to split the prize pool since the U/W Control didn't want to face off against the Mono Red and I didn't want to face off against him again lol so we called it a 4-way tie for first.
With all the control (of any color) that I've recently seen, I find my sideboard being used quite a bit. I side out a significant portion of my creatures for the enchantment removal and additional Planeswalkers and try to control their control against me. I'm not convinced it's the best strategy yet, but I'm still working on it. Against pretty much anything running more creatures, I bring in the other 2 Seal Away and don't seem to have a problem controlling the board early in the game and hit hard with Angels, Gods, and Dinosaurs later in the game. I'm considering a second Shanna, Sisay's Legacy since most of the white removal in the game right now is in the form of enchantments (and everyone is playing them) and the removal part of the enchantment is considered an "ability" which would be "targeting" her once it enters the battlefield so she is immune to enchantment removal.
