Tired of playing the same generically powerful cards in every Constructed format? Me too.

Here's a fast, yet grindy build of Mono Black Aggro designed to take maximum advantage of the powerful "modal spells" in the archetype (including Graveyard Marshal, Tainted Adversary, Tenacious Underdog, Virtue of Persistence, Spawn of Mayhem, and Phyrexian Fleshgorger), incidental lifegain (Gifted Aetherborn, Graveyard Trespasser  , Phyrexian Fleshgorger), and the occasional free win from Bloodletter of Aclazotz. As the title suggests, this is also a deck that plays a critical mass of threats of the type that Magic theorist and Hall of Famer Patrick Chapin has called "Baneslayers," after the famous Baneslayer Angel—i.e., threats that win the game if not dealt with, but trade evenly on cards if they are answered immediately. And yes, casting Archfiend of the Dross absolutely rules.

Recent iterations of the deck are a bit more midrangely than before (although it is still very much an aggressive, combat-step oriented build) given my dissatisfaction with the 1-drop creatures in the format and the NEAR UBIQUITY of exile-based creature removal which hugely hamstrings most of the archetype's recursive creatures.

This deck is mostly for fun, but I like to take my fun seriously: whenever I play it, Motorhead's "We are the Road Crew" plays in my head the whole time.
