tree of redemption needs to leave. it conflicts with your lifegain goal. id drop a cloudshift and add a sphinxs....bring resto to 4, and drop a chalice. Id lose drogskol completely and put the smiters in mainboard. realistically if what you're trying to do is stall til you win...which is what life gainers do....then your win condition will be geist which means he should be at 4 despite being a legendary creature. this also means you will need sundering growth in the sideboard to kill their glaring spotlight when they sideboard that in against you, so id be sure to make it 4 instead of the 2. id also consider a quick creature....something you can put out fast so that you have a chump blocker or two to stall against a RDW deck, while you're waiting to hit 5 mana and hit thragtusk....and start your game slowing lifegain.

tree of redemption and trostani are BFF's in this deck i might pull the drogskols for more. also tree of redemption and rhox faithmender are good friends also. chalice of life is a big win con for me and i doubt ill drop those. everyone i talk to say chalice of life is a bad card, then they play me, then theyre like, screw that broken card. essentially my idea is two drop 2 card. 1 for a sphinx and 1 for a resto but im having trouble

I've played a deck similar to this....yes chalice is good but a far cry from broken. If people you play are saying this...I would love to clean up shop at your FNM. . Tree of redemption is great only for the life total you gain from dropping him but its ability is conter-productive in a lifegainer. i would rather play 4 thragtusks and 4 resto angels. Trust me, I've been playing for only 5 months, and have already learned from many experienced players that these decks wont win you tournaments. Look at star city games tournament winning decklists and tell me who is playing tree of redemption? I'm not saying its a terrible card, I'm just saying there are other things I'd rather be doing. And then I hate that you have to have trostani on the field in order for tree of redemption to gain you life. Im not saying that youre playing shitty cards...Im just saying there are things I'd rather be doing with that mana. And still....it's going to take you some time to hit your curve so that the lifegain starts working for you. What happens if they're playing skullcrack? or heavy removal and kill your faithmenders with an ultimate price, and dreadbore your trostani. I played a heavy lifegain deck at my fnm a few months ago and it got SHUT DOWN. Granted there are ways to do a lifegainer successfully, that stalls long enough until you hit your mana curve and wreck shit up... and you have the right idea with geist being your win condition. But you asked for help with consistency....this is my 2 cents. If you just want to defend your card choices and oppinion then don't solicit advice.

i dont play this at fnm i would get blown away. i play it at school and i can usually flip 2 chalice's of life by turn 5. but i did make some changes, tell me what you think.

smiter still needs to be main board....if youre attached to tree, then take out drogskull...your win condition is geist....rancors or silverblade paladins might help you get there better...i never liked alchemist refuge...but to each his own...if it were me id drop them and put more gavony or perhaps a grove of the guardian in....or even selesnya charm....they belong in here

i play tested this deck(as it is currently listed) at a local shop today. i got shutdown, as expected, it was a modern tournament though. I noticed i had trouble with removal spells and liliana. any suggestions for dealing with them?

Sideboard Sundering Growth as it won't always be effective. There are many decks out there that run very few enchantments/artifacts, or possibly even none at all. In it's place Think Twice is always good.
