Went to a magic 'pub night' in town and made a few changes to this deck.
Removed: 2x Manaweft Sliver, 4x Elvish Mystic
Added: 3x Soldier of the Pantheon, 3x Wasteland Viper
First matchup was against a red/white deck that took 15th at last week's PTQ, and I pulled a 2-1 victory. (Round 1) Opening hand contained a shiney new Wasteland Viper, so I shocked myself and played it on T1. Well, it was immediately annihilated on the field with a shock. Lesson: Perhaps more effective as a bloodrush.. (Round 2) My opponent was able to pull off a monstrous Stormbreath Dragon to take me out. (Round 3) I was able to lay out my "infinite" combo, sweet!
Second Matchup was against a Selesnya heroic deck.with Fabled Hero + Enchantments, including Alpha Authority and Unflinching Courage, and then a bunch of instants like Gods Willing and Dauntless Onslaught. I lost this match 1-2. (Round 1) Opponent got out a Fabled Hero with Alpha Authority.and proceeded to lay 3 instant spells on him. I did not pull any decent response, and Detention Sphere was useless in my hand. (Round 2) I sideboarded Supreme Verdict and Rootborn Defenses. He flashed out a Boon Satyr and gave him Unflinching Courage. I used 2 Fog and took a 6hit before dropping the [Supreme Verdict]], all in an attempt to bait him into laying down more dudes. I ended up drawing well, playing a Primeval Bounty, a couple creatures, and Elspeth, Sun's Champion. I was able to swing for 27 damage with her tokens alone after ult'ing her. (Round 3) was looking amazing on my end. I had 6 land out, had a scry, saw a white mana, and put it on the bottom of my library, thinking I was sitting pretty. Then I realized I only had one white mana on the table, and my next draws were Elspeth, Sun's Champion, Elspeth, Sun's Champion, Archangel of Thune, Archangel of Thune. Shufflewut? Newb mistake, and it definitely cost me the game. A humbling lesson to learn.
Third Matchup was against an Azorius humans deck. Straight aggro with our little friendly helper Cavalry Pegasus. (Round 1) I outlasted the initial onslaught due to a lot of counterspells in my hand, which gave me enough time to develop and execute the deck nicely. (Round 2) Did not sideboard Supreme Verdict when I should have. Played an iffy opening hand that had, no counterspells, and I wasn't drawing any more land. Daxos of Meletis, Fabled Hero, Cavalry Pegasus and Spear of Heliod made quick work of my 20 hp. (Round 3) Sideboard in SV, but more or less a repeat of Round 2. Snap.
