How do you deal with Cyclonic Rift?

Cyclonic Rift can't be overloaded until what? Turn Six or Seven? Supreme Verdict is a much bigger threat... and obviously the answer to that is play more creatures (hint: the same thing you'd do in any other creature based deck), followed by dropping more enchantments.

...And haveReady / Willing set up for counter. My biggest threat honestly IS Cyclonic Rift . My only answer to that is Spell Rupture .

Bromjunaar I think it was a 2.5k...it was like 200 people

Glaring Spotlight shut's down your entire deck. Esper FTW.

Yeah, its a pretty good thing no one runs that in any top deck, eh? Good ol detention sphere ftw?

ONtheLean says... #7

They do, because hexproof is the easiest way to beat esper control. And counter spell's work pretty alright against detention sphere.

I've never seen a single glaring spotlight in any matchup ever in any of the tours I've been in. Not sure where you're getting your sideboards from.

I love the deck. Really. But i am confused on your mana lay out as it isnt layed as your mana should be i suppose? You have so little blue sources but so many white sources with little ways of getting the white mana

Believe me, the pie chart bothers the crap out of me. The only reason I'm running 6 forests instead of evening things out a little more, is I never want to see a plains with a gladecover scout in opening hand. I really can't wait for the new temples to come out so I can finally fix this mess.

Thanks for the comment!

I get my sideboard from playing hexproof decks and shutting them down with glaring spotlight. And the reason you've won with this deck is because you haven't seen anyone run them. Because it makes your Bant hexproof deck, just a Bant deck. Add 2 Fade into Antiquity to sideboard +1

GreyFawkes says... #12

Well, I find it odd that you do run it in your sideboard. I'm guessing your meta is hexproof heavy...

My meta actually sideboards it against me too haha

I've never really seen them in a ptq or anything like that though, so I don't see much reason to run them. Like I said, I have answers for it already. Kudos to you for running it though!

Thanks for the +1!

I remove temple of mystery and add temple of plenty and the pie chart is almost perfect....too bad I'm changing this deck up when the next set comes out

While I do agree that this deck needs more viable creatures, I don't see the sphinx being one of them. The scry 3 is really really wonderful, but I don't like having to discard things for pseudo hexproof creatures. I would try Ascended Lawmage , but I don't really care for the high cost for her.

Fleecemane Lion I think needs to start flaunting his locks in the mainboard again. Not sure how to make him fit though :c

maybe -1 caryatid and -1 satyr for 2x Fleecemane Lion ? or a witchstalker instead of the satyr.

When are you going to update your deck for BotG? Are you still running a Bant, hexproof style deck or going Junk or something different entirely?

While I still love the hexpriof aura builds, I've found myself steering away from them. I've been doing america control lately just to do something different. I'm actually in the middle of selling my collection so I don't think I'll be doing any really money hungry decks any time soon. I'll pretty much be sticking to cheap ol' mazes end for now lol

Hi! This is a bit long, but it's because I'd really like your input. I'm running a very similar deck and preparing to get competitive with it. I've got a slightly different take, but it's very similar.

I've decided to main deck Spell Rupture . The way I see it, there's only one relevant spell which gets around this: Supreme Verdict and only about 15% of decks are playing it. Spell Rupture also handles basically any overwhelming threat (which happens quite a bit!) and it works wonders against Sphinx's Revelation , the other critical fixture they need to beat this deck. So, it's basically putting the Ready//Willing in the side instead (although I've chosen Mending Touch for my sideboard instead, since it's cheaper and I don't normally have more than one creature I care about. Mending also can be used very early game for Anger of the Gods). What I'm saying here is that control isn't more popular than mono black, which only has Devour Flesh , thereby making the Ready//Willing much less useful. So, my plan is to main deck for a successful game against the rest of the meta, and then sideboard significantly against control.

Most local "pros" in my area are telling me to main deck Voice of Resurgence. While I really want to agree, I find that card getting targeted and removed very easily (and the token as well), thereby making their spot removal worth it again. But it really is an excellent card, in general (and even moreso against control).

Also, I've currently switched out the Caryatids for Elves (but keep toying with adding two Caryatids back, in addition to the elves). Basically, the thought is to ramp sooner into Witchstalker and/or multiple enchantments. And if they pop the elf later on, I really don't care. I got what I wanted. One other thing to note is that suiting up the elf is actually relevant with 3 ruptures and Trollhide main decked (which I'll get to later).

I haven't been trying Bident, since it feels expensive, but I think I'll give it a go and see what happens. But I'm also (currently) running Commune with the Gods . The way I see it, everything is pretty much a creature or an enchantment. And it's paramount to get to the hexproof guy. So, this saves a lot of mulligans. I run two.

I'm also main decking Trollhide , which is yet another answer to control (i.e. making ready//willing more expendible). The last thing I've changed is to add two Gift of Orzhova , because lifelink is really what wins the games and it also is evasion. Consequently, I've reduced the number of Aqueous Forms to 1 (but feel like the Communes help out a lot on that front).

Another interesting card (for the sideboard) is Pit Fight . Since this thing makes gigantic creatures, then fighting is a really good idea (especially with the lifelink). Gets rid of those pesky Dragons and Demons, or even a Mutavault.

How often is Sphere of Safety relevant in this deck? I tried (hard) to make a Sphere deck with limited success. It's very expensive for what you get, it seems...

One more card to ponder is Hunter's Prowess . It's won me some games, and kinda replaces the card advantage which Bident is giving (while also giving trample and buffing up the big guy). And, of course, there are the charms. Which again, everyone is telling me to run Selesnya Charm , but I'm trying to resist in order to make the Commune more relevant.

Just looking for your thoughts and knowledge on playing this deck, since nothing can replace experience! I would post the deck, but I have it set up on another website already. I can try to link it here: http://www.cardagain.com/mtg/deck/view/2281

Wow, that is quite a lot to respond to! I'm really appreciative that you took the time to describe your ideas, it's very refreshing to see reasoning :]

Let's start with Spell Rupture . I think this card is absolutely wonderful.the cost for x is usually around 5 to 8, which is ridiculous. it takes care of a lot of problems for this deck, like Sphinx's Revelation and Ruric Thar, the Unbowed . I'm really surprised to see someone recognizing it's effectiveness. I can agree with mainboarding it, as it removes any threat that could stop you from winning a game, except for good ol' Supreme Verdict . I think my favorite thing about it is it stops Merciless Eviction .

As for Ready / Willing , this thing is wonderful against control or aggro, simply because of the untap effect. It's basically a trap card lol. I swing, leave myself open for a full assault resulting in death, then TA-DA, they untap, and I kill their vital creatures, and gain some life, and then swing out next turn. It's remarkably effective in any matchup usually. Sometimes I can get both halves of it off. It also works well with the Bident of Thassa : force them to swing, untap and indestructible, and kill off the problem makers.

Voice of Resurgence , meh, I've never felt very fondly of voice. I'd rather have more Selesnya Charm

I like my Sylvan Caryatid s, I wouldn't trade them for the world. They make great blockers vs aggro, and that mana production is just irreplaceable, it helps me get out my double mana dudes and bident

Commune with the Gods is a pretty neat idea, I don't know how I would feel about it though, I guess I'd have to test it out to really get a feel for it.

I like Trollhide , but I never feel like it does enough for me. It's great against control obviously, but other than that I don't see it being too relevant most of the time. Then again it could save me from making stupid mistakes, or against combat trick-heavy matches. I'll have to see how my meta turns out after this set.

As for the charms, I think I had Simic Charm in. If I did it was for the permanents gain hexproof part, because I reeeally don't like my enchantments being Detention Sphere d. Selesnya Charm is always good, can't complain about it as it makes a dude to sac if they devour flesh, and it exiles those big dumb Desecration Demon s, hydras, etc.

I've been looking pretty hard at Hunter's Prowess . The draw power is pretty incredible, and too good not to ignore. Something like that helps you if you get board wiped or whatever.

Sphere of Safety ...is just...it's obnoxious. If the opponent doesn't have enchantment removal, consider the game yours when that comes out. I can't tell you how many times people at my meta just scoop when it hits the board. It's probably one of my favorite enchantments ever printed, it's just so troll-ey
