THE DECK DESCRIPTION IS BEING UPDATED FOR THE NEW OVERHAUL

Why Bantblade?

There's a few reasons as to why I still keep this deck pinned after 6 or 7 years--I love playing it. It's been through a whole host of iterations, each with its own restrictions, and every time it has felt just barely out of reach from getting there. I've put it through the wringer, tested, compared, worked with others, and I've come to find what makes the deck work--and what makes it not work. Bantblade is Bantblade because it uses each of the colors to achieve a tempo-control gameplan: white produces the most efficient answers and most disruptive interaction, green presents both an acceleration angle and a value angle, and blue rounds out with the pressure valves that allows a deck to spend turn 2 playing a 1/2 in a format like modern. The various colors do cross over with eachother, but I find this gameplan works best with this set of colors, each playing a vital role. Of course, there do exist other angles--users like elpokitolama and Spotred have found more success with Esper lists in the past, though some don't even continue to be blade lists, but this is the deck that appeals to my player sensibilities.

Well, how do I play this deck then?

For starters, you have to answer the age-old question: who's the beatdown? This deck plays wildly different depending on which side of the table you're on. If you're the beatdown, your goal is to abuse your mana advantage, through your dorks and the ability to use Force on their turn, in order to get one threat to stick. This can be a Batterskull, this can be a Teferi, Time Raveler, this can be a resolved Shardless Agent, this can be a Toski, Bearer of Secrets--once one's on the field, the card advantage, disruption, and/or clock they present should keep the opponent on the backfoot whilst you race to victory.

If you're on the backfoot to start, however, your strategy becomes using your mana and card advantage to trade even or down until you can stabilize with something akin to a Batterskull or juicy Shardless Agent. Path to Exile giving them a land, Teferi, Time Raveler being played, bouncing, and dying, Ice-Fang Coatl eating an attacker early or later with some snow lands, feel free to gain a turn at the cost of a card or some temporary tempo. The goal is essentially to stay in it long enough for a few haymakers to pull over the game with card draw, lifegain, and disruption, at which point the match is set.

Updates Add

Well then,

After having the deck stolen, having it change numerous times over the years, I actually built a somewhat finished list.

Just in time for MH2.

Aren't things looking great?

In all seriousness, I'm rebuilding it to incorporate new pieces from the set, it's a banger overall. The question is: what direction to take?

Shardless Agent is promising but warping. It leads to these amazing turn 2's but it also prevents me from running some interaction like Mana Leak. However, the new elementals are promising, and fill in the gap, and make rampant use of the abundance of cards generated.

The other direction is to scrap the Shardless plan and instead just make use of the new cards that easily fit in. Most keyly is Prismatic Ending--the card just does it all, and feels simply amazing, but it is completely incongruous with the Shardless package. What are everyone's thoughts?
