OUTDATED DO NOT READ

Okay, so, this is a deck that I built for my friend to introduce him to commander. He used to play a few years ago, but stopped playing when we changed formats. It’s a combination of cards that I own and cards from a 60 card Boros deck he had already based around Razia.

We can start with removal, and the deck has plenty of it. Duergar Hedge-Mage, Orim’s Thunder, and Wear/Tear are on artifact and enchantment destruction. The Mage and Wear/Tear actually allow us to hit one of each type. Orim’s Thunder can potentially take out a creature when kicked, so each card can provide extra value! For creatures we have some classics such as Lightning Helix and Justice Strike to keep our opponent’s board in check.

In case our foes go wide or simply overwhelm us, we have access to Blasphemous Act, Chain Reaction, and Star of Extinction as hard boardwipe. Comeuppance and Arcbond are alternative combat tricks that can act as wipes, and they’re really fun to pull off! On top of that we also have access to two fun pseudo-wipes: Deafening Clareon, and Brightflame, which might be my favorite card in the deck.

One thing I’ve noticed about Razia is that she is EXPENSIVE. So not only does the deck have adequate ramp to ensure we get her out ASAP, but we have a few reanimation spells to help us evade commander tax. Nim Deathmantle is probably my favorite, since it has repeated value. It’s backed up by Miraculous Recovery, and Defy Death. There are a couple more options, but I specifically mentioned these because they all boost Razia’s power into the coveted 7+ range to 3-shot players.

Speaking of attacking players, how do we win the game? First and foremost, commander damage from Razia. The deck has quite a few resources that increase her power to 7+ such as Champion’s Helm, Nim Deathmantle, and Sunforger, which can all be fetched with Steelshaper’s Gift or Open the Armory. The Immortal Sun and Legion’s Initiative also give her boosts as well, and to really batter our enemies we have Sunhome, Boros Charm, and True Conviction to dish out some big time double strike damage!! Response/Resurgence gives us an extra combat step to potentially take out multiple opponents at once, while Chance for Glory gives us an extra turn as a last ditch effort.

A secondary win condition comes from manipulation of combat in combination with creatures that have effects that trigger when dealt damage. Basandra and Boros Battleshaper can both force our opponents to attack into cards like Spitemare, Truefire Captain, or Coalhauler Swine. A real sweet play is using Master Warcraft to force our opponent’s board to block Stuffy Doll and take lethal damage!! Comeuppance and Deflecting Palm can also be used to redirect damage back at another player, so Fireball and X decks beware!

Well, that’s my take on Razia. Feel free to drop a comment or suggestion, I’m always looking for improvements!
