how it feels to play this deck"Bear mace this guy!"

The GW Hatebears archetype utilizes creatures, such as Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and Leonin Arbiter, to tilt the playing field gently towards me. For example, Leonin Arbiter transforms Ghost Quarter into Strip Mine and Path to Exile into a perfect kill spell. Thalia can throw a wrench into Storm decks looking to combo off and generally make Control decks cringe. Voice of Resurgence is the latest addition, always trading for something better with removal.

Our winning strategy is using either Blade Splicer or Mirran Crusader to beatdown the opponent as our hate bears draw the removal. Sword of Ice and Fire can give Mirran Crusader protection from every color besides white, almost insuring 8 damage before the sword triggers.

Here I am playing against the5ervant’s UW Tempo Control deck that utilizes Meddling Mage and clone token generators with Telepathy and Peek in order to shutdown their opponents' board. This should be a pretty good matchup, as they can try to shutdown my big names like Leonin Arbiter and Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and I fumble to play around those kinds of limits.

5ervant

We got mana-screwed and swamped by their creatures. It would be smart to bring in more removal, like 2 Supreme Verdict, and throttle down his Aggro with 2 Ghostly Prison. Taking out Followed Footsteps and Idyllic Tutor. We’re expecting enchantment hate.

Hrbeck

Good game for us; we got our guys out and Leonin Arbiter drew removal away from beaters. We need to hate on his enchantments, Detention Sphere is not good for us. Bring in 2 Nature’s Claim and 2 Choke for 3 Scavenging Ooze and 1 Linvala.

Round1- Game 2

Hrbeck- 1-0 5ervant- 0-1

5ervant stays on the play, Opening Hand: Hallowed Fountain, Island, Telepathy, 2 Meddling Mage, Ghostly Prison, Story Circle.

A really good hand for us, keeping.

Hrbeck hand: 2 Aethervial, Blade Splicer, Birds of Paradise, Sword of Ice and Fire, Temple Garden, Ghost Quarter

It has a lot of goodies, I think we’ll hope to draw into our beaters.

=====

I got locked down for a while by their enchantments and Meddling Mages, but the Sword and Nature's Claim broke through and won this one for me.
