Just made my day man! I've been trying to find a simic with splash black for that sexy menace but haven't found any worth making, but this deck totally rocks! +1

I feel like this deck would be better off with 4x Temple of Deceit , Watery Grave or Overgrown Tomb . Have 4 swamps for this kind of deck, where there is only 1 card you really need is a waste. Those lands would give you a lot more flexibility. Everything else looks good.

I feel like the scavenge mechanic could be really useful here, maybe throw in a Varolz, the Scar-Striped for creatures in your graveyard to keep pumping up your monsters?
December 6, 2013 12:02 a.m.
Plaguejaw, there's nothing worthwhile to scavenge and most of my creatures are already quite a bit slow to cast. Even Corpsejack Menace is just 4 counters in a worse case scenario. Summoning another 4-5 drop would most likely be better than spending the same amount of mana for only a few counters. Good suggestion either way.

if you want a good scavenge card that may do a bit in here, maybe not, Slitherhead . get them out, get them killed before your coprsey comes out, and then free 2 4 8 or 16 counters depending on how many corpsejacks you have on the board.

Slitherhead is lackluster at best, and useless in a lot of situations. I'd rather see you using Elvish Mystic because this deck is so mana-hungry. t3 Kalonian Hydra can be pretty sweet.
Side note: wouldn't Pithing Needle not stop an AEtherling ? It's abilities are mana abilities. May want to remove that from the description. correct me if i'm wrong.
You know, after playtesting some, I take back what I said about Fathom Mage being lackluster in this. I hadn't thought of interactions with Bioshift , especially with Kalonian Hydra . Speaking of that freaky hyrda, I'm just gonna go ahead and keep telling people how "bad" it is, just so the price keeps going down.
And I've said it before, but man this deck is such a great representation of b/u/g. It's ridiculous, combo-crazy, math heavy, and full of flavor. I just love it so much.
December 14, 2013 2:32 a.m.
A mana ability is something that fills all of the following three A. would add mana to a mana pool, B. Does not have a target and C. is not a loyalty ability
An example of a mana ability would be Elvish Mystic or Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx
AEtherling has activated abilities that cost mana, they are not mana abilities, hope this helps

Another thing this deck sorely lacks is a 3 drop creature. Right now, it is wayyy to high mana heavy in terms of creatures. 7x 5 drops and 11x 4 drops won't cut it against the most competitive decks, and if you aren't sending out creatures on turn 3 you will be facing issues. Here are some suggestions.
Cut 1x Prophet of Kruphix , 1x Fathom Mage . These are more luxury cards that tend to be dead draws occasionally early on in the game due to the lack of their immediate effect (they simply lack the sheer stopping power of a Kalonian Hydra or Master Biomancer and therefore are not necessary.) Aside from that, would really consider cutting your Bioshift as in my experience its not nearly as effective as it seems. Three drops to replace these.
Thassa, God of the Sea : Getting the crucial draws from her scry is more important in a deck like this then just about any deck. While you won't be getting it as a creature, its unblockable is more than enough to win you games.
Reverent Hunter : A possible choice, as all of your permanents are green permanents.
Vorel of the Hull Clade : Sticks well with the counters theme, a good early blocker to help you survive till your bigger creatures come out, and then pumps them for maximum damage.
Elusive Krasis
: A nice early blocker, a great unblockable later when he has the counters.
Dreg Mangler : May be harder with your mana type, but a nice 3-3 who has a feasible scavenge.
Again, I really do not know which one of these will be the right path for you, but I do know you definitely need a 3 drop creature. Playtest and find which one works for you. Love this deck, hopefully you can still make it better.

I agree with BobTheImam in that you need a three drop, but I disagree with his choices. I personally think that Renegade Krasis would be the best option by a long way. Play him on turn two and he will be evolved by all of your 4-drops, then a load of your stuff gets counters. I also think Elvish Mystic would fit nicely in here as it would let you play your bombs earlier, which can make all the difference in a tight match.

Very nice point BobTheImam.
I run a similar deck, just not quit so Master Biomancer
based, and I generaly mulligan when playing it if I don't have one of my lower mana cost creatures (which include Gyre Sage
, Elusive Krasis
, Renegade Krasis
, and Thassa, God of the Sea
) in my first hand.
They're the creatures that are the only reason BUG can still beat aggro and competitive, because we don't quit get slaughtered on turn three, and get a chance to move to our turn 4 and 5 drops and win on turn 6.
Speaking of Renegade Krasis , I think that it is a good three drop you might want to throw in there, if you follow BobTheImam's advice. It is a very good team player that can bump your stuff early in the game.

i run a fairly "similar" deck. doesn't have the speed this one does, Guild alliance deck, Golgari/Simic badass but the creature power gets friggin intense, and amps VERY fast with a Vorel of the Hull Clade paired with the Corpsejack Menace plus using Jarad's Orders to pull creatures you need, and throw Dreg Mangler in teh graveyard is nice. It just lacks trample/unblockable and some mana ramp, but it usually doesn't run into too many mana problems.

I've made changes based on everyone's advice. Though, I dislike how Far / Away seemingly makes my curve look fatter since the individual sides Far and Away aren't counted when TappedOut calculates the curve. Oh well.

maybe x4 Cloudfin Raptor over Experiment One ? with all the counters you are dropping it could get pumped quick.
December 17, 2013 4:56 p.m.
Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord might be fun with Kalonian Hydra
December 19, 2013 12:48 p.m.
Give and take can be quite good here, This deck could have fun with Aqueous Form maybe sideboard Alpha Authority to give protection and harder to block.

First things first: great job! I've been trying to design a Simic or BUG +1/+1 counter deck for a couple weeks, and this is the best that I have seen yet. It can get up and running quickly with Experiment One and Renegade Krasis . It follows through to mid and late game with a bunch of combo options. And, thanks to a little bit of ramp, swinging for 24 by turn 6 is completely realistic! (3rd turn Biomancer, 4th turn Menace, 5th turn hydra)
I'm now on my mission to build this deck, but I think I am going to do a couple of substitutions:
-2 Prime Speaker Zegana => +2 Fathom Mage (while the mages don't start off as big, they offer more extended value and cost 2 colored mana less)
-3 Far / Away => +2 Rapid Hybridization , +1 Curse of the Swine (moving the Far / Away to the sideboard for Hexproof decks, I prefer targeted removal for demons and the like)
I'm also thinking about changing the sideboard around bit, namely adding Cyclonic Rift for token creature removal and adding those Far / Away s (removing Jarad and Plummet), but that's all tentative.

Correction: I think that 5th turn Hydra would actually be attacking for 36 on turn 6!

Thassa, God of the Sea is all that she looks to be, weather or not she's used as a creature. It appears you've been thinking about her, and I'm saying it's definitely worth it...
I use her in my BUG deck (Fluffy... That's not a Toy! ), and she's one of the main reasons I can still take on competative, and not have to worry about an army of tokens, or some Master of Cruelties left behind to guard.

I saw that someone recommended Aqueous Form , which is a good idea, but one way to sneak in a similar effect without devoting a spell is Rogue's Passage . I had a pre-rotation deck with PB&J that used that to make 20+/20+ creatures unblockable as a regular win con.
Unfortunately, cards like Increasing Savagery aren't around in Standard anymore, but you still have access to Deadbridge Goliath .
You might also consider moving some Golgari Charm to the mainboard for an answer to Supreme Verdict and some Enchantment removal, since Detention Sphere and Chained to the Rocks could foil your plans.
I've also never been a fan of Fathom Mage since it's very slow, plus you're already loaded with 4-drops; Prime Speaker Zegana seems like a huge upgrade. Having a single Corpsejack on the field nets you 9 cards. Just be careful not to mill yourself!
Finally, for some great "WTF?" reactions against aggro opponents, it doesn't get any better than gaining dozens if not hundreds of life at instant speed with Predator's Rapport .
