I decided to try and share my thoughts on what the right blue deck would be as I am making it. Here are the goals I have for this one (in addition to the rules for all Beta Decks):

1. Play up blue's identity as a color. People new to magic have no idea what each color does. We need to show them! Card draw, control and big fliers are what I think of when I think of blue.
2. Artifact mini-theme. At least 3 artifacts
3. I have FNM foil Colossal Whale that is being worked into this deck somehow
4. Vs other decks. Blue will be the most controlling deck of the five mono color decks, so it's got to be able to live long enough to do something.
5. No tokens. Every other deck creates some type of token and its getting annoying.

About Beta Decks:

Beta Decks are a series of casual decks built to be played against each other by people who are new to Magic, have played a bit before, or just want to have fun at a kitchen table. It is not an "alpha deck" or one that has been Top 8 at FNM. All the decks are intended to be roughly balanced against one another. The term Beta also applies to the fact that these decks will be changed frequently.

I started by building themed decks for my girlfriend and I to play against each other when have some spare time. Now I'm hoping to provide an alternative to the Intro/Theme decks that WOTC is putting out. Please take a look and see if there are any improvements you would make to the deck. I'm always trying to balance them against one another so that there is a pretty even distribution of power.

Rules:

1. Work in a theme
2. No more than 3x play sets per deck
3. No complex cards (Warp World)
4. Budget decks: cost around $20
5. At least one artifact and one enchantment
