Saw this on the advertise commander deck thing, so here we go:

Mass Haste: Hammer of Purphoros, Fervor, Fires of Yavimaya, Anger, Mass Hysteria, Concordant Crossroads, Akroma's Memorial, Emblem of the Warmind.

As for other useful red cards, I find Chaos Warp a great removal spell.

Also, Scapeshift seems amazing if it's in your budget. Works great with The Gitrog Monster and Omnath, Locus of Rage. I assume you knew this but it's just too expensive.

In a single player play test I recently discovered just how potent Borborygmos Enraged + Dakmor Salvage + The Gitrog Monster can be. Discard the salvage to deal 3 damage and then dredge it back to your hand. If at least one land got dredged then that draws an extra card. If the extra is a land then discard it too and repeat until you draw a nonland. Then start discarding the salvage again.

Along the way I drew into Retreat to Hagra + Splendid Reclamation . A quick count of the mana I had open showed exactly the amount I needed to cast both. A count of my lands in play told me that I had 30 lands not in play. I had already dealt enough damage to kill one opponent and put a second to 28 life. I then proceeded to dredge myself to 3 cards left in the library in order to deal enough damage to put 4 more opponents to 28 life. There was one land left in my library and the salvage in my hand and exactly 28 lands in the graveyard for Splendid Reclamation. That was fun.

I have finally assembled the deck (with a few proxies) and it will get its first real trial tomorrow night so I'm pretty excited.

Finally got my first win with the combo mentioned above. It's also the first time the other players had seen this combo go off too and I received a couple of compliments. Some confusion came about as a couple of players wanted to fast-track through the combo and there was some debate as to whether I would be able to deal enough damage to clear the table or not. I had two opponents between 10-20 life and two who together had about 80 more life.

I tried to explain that the actual amount of damage dealt depends on how the cards come up in my library and not simply on how many times I can dredge Dakmor Salvage. To simplify things one of the larger life total players scooped which reduced the life pool unquestionably within range. I played out the combo roughly on my own as the next game started and the rough tally (rough due to confusion at the start from too many people talking at once) suggested that I would have been able to deal AT LEAST 90 damage.

In the aftermath the suggestion came up that if I had an eldrazi titan or other card that could cause my graveyard to get shuffled (as long as I don't draw it into my hand), that this combo could go infinite. That sounds like a pretty good idea so I will be looking to add such a card at some point.

Newest update! I'm pretty excited.

  • Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre comes in and Nissa's Pilgrimage comes out. I needed to find something to replace with Ulamog so I looked at the large 3cmc bump in the curve and decided that maybe I could do with one fewer land grabber spell. Now my graveyard can be recycled.

  • I also welcome Ramunap Excavator as a budget replacement for Crucible of Worlds. I have been using a proxy for Crucible so it feels good to replace it with a real card instead. I have actually noticed that I haven't played Crucible very many times at all really. The few times I have played it, I don't recall getting full value out of it.

you can copy dark depths with thespian stage and get merit lage for free with out paying into it because the copy does not get the counters also if someone is able to deal with merit you still have the dark depths to bring him back still and if you have Thief of Blood in there you can get the counters removed for the six drop instead of paying 30 mana to hard cast it. also this deck needs Scapeshift it is a must and was just reprinted so you can get a copy for like 11 bucks i would get it before the reprint starts to go up in price. nice deck.

i would take out Undergrowth Champion and Phyrexian Arena and add a Nesting Dragon and Perilous Forays these cards interact with your deck in a lot of ways that could help you out. perilous forays works well with nesting dragon but also Omnath, Locus of Rage Rampaging Baloths and Zendikar's Roil all three are in your deck and can get you a lot of real estate.

feel free to check mine out its not perfect but might give you some ideas.

Have you considered adding Strip Mine ? With Crucible of Worlds or Lord Windgrace's second ability you can destroy an opponent's land each turn.

With a Fastbond you can play any number of lands each turn, then add Jaddi Offshoot to neutralize the negative effects of Fastbond. Add in any combination of Bounce lands including, but not limited to, Golgari Rot Farm and Dormant Volcano and you have an infinite combo you can stop at any time. If you go this route I'd suggest adding Amulet of Vigor .

Happy Hunting!

TheoryCrafter, thanks for the Strip Mine suggestion. I haven't really considered it before because I don't have one, but I'll keep it in mind. Fastbond is banned in EDH pretty much for all the reasons you listed, so that part is moot.
