This is the Green with splash black hydra deck that I am currently making! The main goal is to ramp into as many hydra as possible as quickly as possible. Any feedback is much appreciated.
The general way this deck is to go is to open with Elvish Mystic into a turn 2 Elvish Archdruid. Next i will either drop a Corpsejack Menace or a Mistcutter Hydra to get the doubling up or to start doing damage.
The main win condition in this deck is to drop Kalonian Hydra on turn 3 or 4 and then drop a Primordial Hydra after it. The latter will be doubling twice a turn and this will get out of hand very quickly with Corpsejack Menace
Gyre Sage provides great synergy with this deck because its mana output doubles with every Kalonian Hydra attack and it will almost always evolve when a massive hydra is played. It generally gets to around 20-30 mana a turn when played.
Again please provide any constructive criticism you can.
Possible Openings:
Turn 1: Elvish Mystic. Beginning of the ramp
Turn 2: Elvish Archdruid: Next stage of the ramp. Can tap for 2 next turn and will keep getting bigger.
Turn 3: Gyre Sage and Corpsejack Menace: Drop the Gyre Sage first and then with a dual land and the 2 other elves you can tap for 5 more. The corpsejack is a great play because it drops 2 counters on the sage and gets the doubling going for the eventual hydra. Possible 1 drop can also be added on.
Turn 4: Mistcutter Hydra,Kalonian Hydra, or Primordial Hydra: This turn is where the damage starts. If I have a Mistcutter Hydra then I can tap out to play it for 10 mana, which if there are no blockers can be lethal right then and there, with help from the Corpsejack. Primordial Hydra would come in as a 16/16 which is already enourmous, and would triple to a 48/48 next turn. The Kalonian Hydra would come in as a 8/8 trample for 5 mana, and you would still have 5 mana left over for more ramp or a
Khalni Hydra
, which would be played for a measly 3 mana. Or even another Kalonian if you are lucky :) All these scenarios would put 2 (or 4) more counters on Gyre Sage
Turn 5: Primordial Hydra or Kalonian Hydra: Now you should play the hydra that you didn't play last turn (Or if you played the Mistcutter you could play both.) Anyway you should have 12-16 mana at your disposal this turn. This means a massive Primordial Hydra if you played the Kalonian Hydra last turn (my recommended course) at 24/24 to 32/32. Then the Kalonian would attack, and it would triple to 96/96. Keep in mind that the Gyre Sage also triples to 18 counters with the attack phase, and that in itself is a force to be reckoned with. Pretty much anything can be played in the deck by now and getting a massive hydra out every turn is the recommended course of action.
Turn 6: Doesn't really matter. Play a hydra. If you have not won already your Primordial Hydra will be at a 288/288 and will triple again to around 800/800 during the attack phase. Now another corpsejack menace would sextuple the amount of counters on the Primordial Hydra every upkeep and every Kalonian Hydra attack. Your Gyre Sage will be tapping for around 30 mana.
Turn 7: You should have won by now if your opponent has been letting all this play out, GG.
Possiblity 2 (possible turn 4 win)
Turn 1: Joraga Treespeaker
Turn 2: Use your 2 mana to level the Treespeaker up. Now tap the treespeaker for 2 Elvish Mystic.
Turn 3: Use your 6 mana you have now to play Kalonian Hydra. You can use the remaining mana to fight their one or two drop with Mutant's Prey if you have it.
Turn 4: You now have 7 mana to use, if you have played a land each turn. Play Mistcutter Hydra as a 6/6 and attack with both that and the Kalonian Hydra. The Kalonian will be an 8/8 and the Mistcutter will be a 12/12. If they have no blockers, this is game. If they do, you will probably wipe their board and kill them next turn with a 16/16 and a 24/24.
