Basically wanted to make a scavenge deck, but I wanted to do it right. A lot of the Golgari creatures I wanted to use have CMCs>3, so to fill the gap I used some of my favorite 1- and 2-drop creatures to fill the gap.
"But Arachnoquake!" I hear you say, "Doesn't that filthy the pure scavenging you were going for?"
"Yes," I reply.
"But you've forgotten about Varolz."
Basically, get out all your chump blockers and chippers (
Brushstrider
, Kalonian Tusker, &
Sedge Scorpion
). They're just there to provide a shield and act as a diversion. Then, drop the star, Varolz, the Scar-Striped. Any of those piddlies you just had out are now 1- and 2-drop scavenge creatures (3 +1/+1 counters for 2 from that stupid Brushstrider! Are you serious!). Put out Varolz's right hand man, the Corpsejack Menace, and your other creatures get real big real fast. Add some Forced Adaptation (I love this card!) and watch'em grow.
Haven't had a chance to test this one out yet, but I was able to get creatures out consistently and able to buff them well. It may need something like Bioshift to save my gains when a scavenger eventually dies. Bioshift the counters to another creature, then scavenge the dead guy on too. You can't take it with you, so why bother! Shoot, I may even want some black removal or some trample enchantments/instants. You could even toss in some Gruul creatures-bloodrush them to your graveyard, then scavenge them afterwards. There's a lot of work yet to be done...
