Casual/budget commander deck that is a modified version of the Mind Seize precon. I took out all the weak cards from the precon (especially the horrid "your opponent draws cards" spells--ick!) and replaced them with spells from my collection that fit the control theme.

As anyone familiar with Mind Seize already knows, the general idea is to exile a bomb sorcery or instant with Jeleva (like Army of the Damned or Cruel Ultimatum), and then cast that card for free. Exiling and casting opponent's spells is a nice bonus as well. Aside from that, the deck is very controlling, with lots of sweepers, spot removal, and counterspells. It contains several bombs that can finish out games quickly, whether that be Thraximundar taking over the board, Lazav, Dimir Mastermind copying an opponent's fatty, or just an army of 2/2 flyers created by Talrand, Sky Summoner.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of awkward situations created by Jeleva's ability. Many of my instants and sorceries can't be cast off of her, including all of the counterspells, and all of the cards with X in their casting cost. I'm not really sure how to get around this. Eventually I'd like to replace the red sweepers with black and blue ones that don't have X in the mana cost, but for now I don't have access to enough of those. As for the counterspells, I don't know if I should eliminate them and just run more removal instead, or what. I don't think that's the answer, though, because the counterspells serve in the crucial role of protecting my few creatures, so I'm not sure what to do.

In this deck, there are a number of creatures that take advantage of the high density of instants and sorceries in the deck, including Charmbreaker Devils, Augur of Bolas, and Talrand, Sky Summoner.

I'm looking for suggestions on how to improve this deck. However, due to IRL issues my budget for magic cards is basically zero right now, so the most helpful suggestions would be for cards that cost about a dollar or less. Thanks.
