Played in a Super IQ today and went 3-4 in matches. I enjoyed playing the deck even though I had little play testing and match up knowledge. Made quite a few misplays, and not sure about side boarding in match ups just yet. But it was a good learning experience. I feel like the deck was inconsistent and clunky at times, but when it played well, it really shined.
RDW - 2-1 Hard match up depending on your starting hand, once you get a Boros it slows attacks for a turn, generally saved a spear if I had it for a Hellrider. But it always culminates into a Thundermaw that I have no answer for without my own to race or burning 2 shocks or Zealous Conscripts. Blasphemous act and Boros is a thing.
Jund Midrange 1-2 - I felt like I had the right answer to this deck, but I could never draw a good enough hand to really go aggressive. Sideboarding Burning earth in I pulled it in both game 2 and 3, but I couldn't stop the bleeding with terrible draws, either flooded or no mana.
The Rock 2-0 - Stomped all over this deck pretty hard even though I was sure this would be a bad match up, warleaders helix is a answer for most early aggression and reseting the game with the 4 life gain, but if his deck played better I'm sure it wouldn't of been as much of a route for me as it turned it. He did get mana screwed game 2.
G/W Angels? 1-2 - Guy played three archangel of thunes in a row game 1, no answer for that. Scoop em. Game 2 was really close if I didnt get lucky draws it would of been different. Game 3 was another route for him, just no good card draws.
U/W Control 1-2 - Game 1 I had terrible draws and he drew ridiculous, pulling three Restoration Angels and just preventing my creatures from touching the board. Game 2 I sided in Thalia and she won the game herself, might add 2 more, Game 3 I made a big misplay and let Archangel of Thune and Rhox Rhino combo go crazy. That's a thing.
Mono-Green Ooze? 0-2 - By far the worst match I played all day, no good card draws, and I have zero answers to stop a predator ooze, if I had drawn better I could of raced it, but I saw nothing but burn spells both games. Thinking of dropping Boros Charms for Pacifisms. At least they let me answer indestructible and creatures larger than 5.
RDW 2-1 - Early removal held me in both games I won and allowed me to outlast the aggression. Ratchet bomb managed to squeak a game out by clearing the board of his 2 drops. Sad Burning Tree Emissaries indeed.
Overall 3-4 in matches. 38 out of 70 or something. Take that with a grain of salt though cause half the people kept dropping out each round after round 3. Not bad for my first big tourny though.
Made some updates to the list, dropped Aurelia for Hellrider, (Not sold on Hellrider, he works when he can slip past large blockers, but I rarely find creatures flooding my field.) Boros Charms are a neat idea, but the deck is so greedy that I never have open mana to use the charm, so it sits dead in my hand. I might replace it with more burn, or was looking at Pacifism to negate large creatures. Since 5 is the highest this deck could take out without trading. I'm not sure I like the assemble the legion, I saw it maybe once or twice in an opening hand with no mana. A 26th land might be nice, but it'll also add some flooding to it. Back to thinking.
