Linear gain life and ban that get nerfed by black / rakdos "don't gain life anymore" cards. Slight skew towards wipes / walkers because he's really an engine within himself and doesn't need many more creatures. One of my favorite decks.

For budget builds, the only cards over a dollar I would stress getting would be true conviction, venser's journal, well of lost dreams, Black sun's Zenith, and maybe sun titan. You can make this for under 100 easy buying individually, and it worked really well for me just with the 2015 precon and $10 of upgrades.
