Sideboard

Creature (1)

Maybeboard

The main features of this deck are creature removal, creature theft/copying, and counterspells. Creature/Permanent theft is my favourite mechanic in the game, so I tried to include as much of that as possible. All suggestions/criticisms welcome :)

I do not really like any of the Black/Blue commanders, but I figured Lazav was the cheapest one of them all, that was also on theme. I don't think I will be using him much at all, and the deck wasn't built around him, but there still are a few synergies between him and the deck.

When choosing cards for my removal suite, I focused on trying to get cards that got around effects like hexproof and indestructible, thus I included a lot of sacrifice and exile type effects, as well as -1/-1 board wipes, that were also low cmc. A few of them being Ashes to Ashes , Barter in Blood, Toxic Deluge. Ixidron and Curse of the Swine are two other "board wipes" I'm running, and I feel they're quite strong. It's just a shame that Curse of the Swine can't bypass shroud/hexproof creatures.

I also added some cards with which to steal from my opponent's graveyards, and I figure in a multiplayer game, even if I don't have many ways to outright kill creatures, the others hopefully will. Although Grim Return is definitely the weakest of the graveyard theft cards I've added, it's still my favourite. Not quite sure why :P

In my playgroups, not many people play counterspells, so people generally feel safe to make plays even if it leaves them completely tapped out, so I've seen success using counterspells like Daze, Force Spike and Spell Pierce.

I feel like you can never go wrong with Mind Twist type effects when invested heavily in black, so I included a lot of the ones that didn't affect myself. In my Damia, Sage of Stone deck, I include cards like Last Rites and Abandon Hope , since I feel I can afford to with so much card draw, but in this deck, I feel my card draw is too lacking to include those cards.

When making commander decks, I struggle with implementing win conditions into my strategy, so I would appreciate any advice on cards I can include as win conditions.

The few I've included:

Rise of the Dark Realms, self explanatory.

Sunder , if I can get into a stronger board state than my opponents, then perhaps this is a way of locking the game down.

Reins of Power , not completely sure about this one, but the idea is if I'm in an extremely unfavourable board state, creature wise, maybe I can swing for lethal with this card.

Rite of Replication, on anything powerful I suppose. I like to target Rune-Scarred Demon, for example.

Let me know if you have any suggestions, or if you feel these win conditions are too weak/easy to counter/inconsistent.

One more thing I need help with: I don't own all of the cards in this decklist (maybe half of the cards), assuming I have a budget of $30-$40, which cards listed in this deck should I prioritize buying first? Which cards make this deck strongest, and which cards can I skip out on for now? I really want to buy No Mercy and Bribery, but some of the other cards I'm more iffy about. I'm not sure if Sakashima the Impostor is worth spending so much of my budget on, or Sakashima's Student, for example. Which cards do you feel are must buys, and are also most flexible + consistently strong?

Now that the tuck rule has been implemented, and my Hinder and Spell Crumple are useless for dealing with commanders, I'm considering change my commander to Damia, Sage of Stone, to gain access to Lignify and Song of the Dryads, in order to deal with problematic commanders. Is this worth considering? I would have to tweak my mana base a lot, and I don't plan on using many (or any) other green cards.
