Honestly? This is one of my first actual attempts at a modern deck so i'm still trying and testing so many things. I've only been playing magic for about a year. I don't even have all these cards. I'm just thinking of cards i might/ would like in matchups and put those in the side. Duress is mainly used against Twin or U/R delver so something i feel it would be helpful for.

Duress is a fantastic sideboard card.

This is sick - I love this deck so much

How about Teysa, Orzhov Scion

@cmacfaddin- Teysa, Orzhov Scion would be too easy to remove (Path to Exile, Lightning Bolt...). The focus of this deck is to go wide. Teysa, Orzhov Scion takes that idea away by you sacrificing your tokens. Also, Lifa has plenty of removal and should be stabilized to win pretty anyways with token spam

Frankly you are being nearsighted - You know what else could wipe out this entire deck? Two Hurly-Burly's God's Wrath Martial Coup Mizzium Mortars Lightmine Field Propaganda or everyone's favorite standard card Bile Blight

So saying that Teysa could be too easily killed is ridiculous. Thats basically like you claiming that thoughtseize is your only defense against every single card listed above.

You want to see a simple win plan.

2 Blood Artist + 1 Teya + 1 Blasting Station + Bitterblossom

All you need is 4 bitterblossom tokens to win (and kill one of their creatures as a side note). Each blossom token is able to deal 3 damage when it dies making 12 damage and then sac the 3 white tokens and the blood artists and teya and you win.

Now even if you don't get said cards in conjunction - Teya's rezurrect of black creatures ability is too good to pass up for her cost of 3 mana

He's not being nearsighted. Teysa has no place in this deck. What you are suggesting would make this deck far less consistent, and frankly, simply worse.

I could do that. However, it would be a different deck than this. That deck would be a lot more on getting that "combo" out and not working on it

SO the thing with Teysa, Orzhov Scion is it would ruin the entire focus of this deck. Sure, all the wrath spells out there a thing and we tokens users expect them.

There are plenty of ways around the wrath spells. For example- Lingering Souls and Bitterblossom and both Sorins.

Now lets take into account the card Teysa, Orzhov Scion in this deck. The first ability is downright useless here. We have so many ways to utilize our tokens, why bother removing them to destroy one threat? If we gotta remove 3 tokens (which could end up taking away 9 damage from the board) to get rid of a creature, something is going wrong lol.

Next, our only source of black creatures in this deck is Bitterblossom. Both abilities on Teysa, Orzhov Scion are good...just not in this deck. It's the same concept as him not running Dark Confidant. That card is AWESOME. It just doesn't have a place in this deck.

Teysa, Orzhov Scion is very good in other formats such as tiny leaders but here in a place where Path to Exile and Lightning Bolt rules :/ dangerous territory.

Combo cards in modern must pass the Lightning Bolt test before they are considered strong as well. Look at Splinter Twin decks using Deciever Exarch instead of Pestermite (yes they run both but that is to make the combo more effective).

Finally there are a few problems with Teysa, Orzhov Scion

  1. What do you take out to add her?

  2. When would you want to play her? For example- you already have 8 (technically) 3 drops that make tokens. Do you your token makers or Teysa? By playing her on curve, you already set yourself behind because you lack powerful board presence late game.

  3. Finally, the combo you listed well...that's not as simple as you think. That involves 5 pieces and 4 turns of Bitterblossom tokens surviving. Not to mention none of those cards are listed in the deck thus changing the entire game plan. And sure, too good to pass up...in a black focused deck. There is again one card that primarily makes you black tokens..one each round. With that also being the only targetable creature, it will eat a Path to Exile instantly. xzzane brings up this same argument with Hero of Bladehold. A powerful creature, but will die in a heartbeat.

Wonderful analysis JakeKita. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Have you considered Brave the Sands? It would halve your loss of tokens from blocking eneny creatures.

Bloodspawn Its decent but theres to much competetion as is for the 2 drop between Intangible Virtue, Bitterblossom, and Auriok Champion. Also there are the hand disruption and removal spells that can also play a part

Monastery Mentor has impressive potential a token deck with so few creatures.

Lifa says... #13

wisegreenbean That is true but i hate the card(I run it in my standard deck and i hate it with a passion) so while it may prove to be good, for me its always to slow. It fits much better in a cherrios deck where they just play 0 cost.

Monastery mentor actually isn't good for tokens.

Awesome deck, man. Great take on tokens. I'm a little surprised to not see Zealous Persecution in here, or do you at least feel that would be a sideboard card for you? +1

As of right now, in my meta it would be useless. No one runs b/w tokens but me and only 1 guy runs boggles. My meta is full of junk, Cherrios, burn, and storm so I side board for those mainly. If I start to think it'd be helpful against others I'd run it

Nice deck bro +1. I think you should def swap 1 Spectral Procession for 1 Elspeth though. I sometimes run her in my token deck Mentors of the Lost Arts, and she's always worth the mana. I see her being even better in your deck, and think you could set off her ultimate since you'll be generating enough tokens to protect her. Not a lot of people run enough walker answers. Either way, nice work.

For what it's worth, Martin Juza from Channel Fireball and this deck went 7-3 at Pro Tour Fate Reforged: Black/White Tokens at Pro Tour Fate Reforged and his list is similar to what you have here.

Anyone else find it a little weird that this deck cost $666?

even better: it's 69 cents

Thats a card i've thought a lot about and am trying to find a place for it in the deck. You're right. Its a pretty good card to run in tokens

jchudz says... #24

you should pretty much be guaranteed to have more creatures than your opponent, which makes Timely Reinforcements seem a little bad for the deck.

June 11, 2015 9:10 p.m.

Lifa says... #25

jchudz You would think that but with BB it works pretty well actually. Especially if i'm going up against an aggro deck. I have a poor matchup against burn as well so this is also one of my ways to win against it hopefully as well
