I'm a "new" (played years ago) casual player looking to make a couple decks. First is this this Black and Blue. I am going for something other than eldrazi scions (a few of my friends are doing that) to ramp and bring out the big eldrazis. I'm thinking I can try countering and removing early until I have enough to play the big guys. So far, this has worked decently and really aggravated some opponents. Any pointers or suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm mostly wondering how I should balance the counter/removal spells with the ramp cards.
