Altar of Dementia and Grave Pact I wanted to say gravepact, but its in your primer just not on the list so you have already thought about it. I do like Mikaeus, the Unhallowed in your maybe board..... I don't know what to replace. I still need to read the primer more, to know your combos

Nice deck! Probably you can try to add Ayara, First of Locthwain here?

TheSimikBOat: I definitely considered it! But she doesn't help me break even with my infinite combos, since they mostly create infinite colorless creatures :(

What are your thoughts on Bone Miser ?

FenIsABasicSwamp: I considered him? The ability to chain-proliferate with all the swamps in my hand does seem pretty sweet. But I eventually decided he doesn't do enough for 5 mana :(

November 3, 2019 3:05 p.m.

The swamp chain proliferation is one of my favorite things but also you can toss creatures to feed his sac ability. Idk he’s just always been nuts for me with Yawgmoth in my Haakon deck. But yeah the five mana cost is lame.

How do you deal with Cursed Totem or Pithing Needle that shuts Yawg off or Leyline of the Void effects? Karn as the only artifact answer seems like you might get into frequent binds while being easily answered.

Skillville: Thanks for your comment.

The deck can survive decently with Leyline of the Void out, since there aren't too many explicit death triggers. And though my combos don't work, I can still ramp into wincons like Vilis or Grey Merchant, or try and win through token aggro, or ult Liliana, Dreadhorde General .

Regarding Cursed Totem and friends: I mean, that's sorta inevitable in mono-black. There really aren't many good options to deal with artifacts in black, unfortunately: Gate to Phyrexia is too slow, and Nevinyrral's Disk is both slow AND too symmetric to be generally useful in this list.

Either way, Blast Zone can deal with either of them, and be fetched by Expedition Map . Which is helpful when I get in that kind of bind.

In either of these cases, I can still maintain a stax lock with Contamination while digging for answers.

Just realized you're running Necropotence, which seems pretty odd next to Yawgmoth since it'll exile everything you discard to his ability. Also, Horobi, Death's Wail seems like he'd be perfect next to Yawgmoth to just make Yawg kill everything in a one shot.

Daedalus19876 says... #11

FenIsABasicSwamp: Necropotence definitely has a few downsides, but that’s counteracted by it being, ya know, Necropotence XD I will always accept such silly card advantage, even when it comes with a few issues haha.

I’ve considered Horobi? But it makes Yawgmoth REALLY easy for opponents to shoot, and if I use Yawgmoth’s ability to destroy something with Horobi, I won’t draw the card (because the ability is countered once the target is killed).

November 4, 2019 4:21 p.m.

True, Necropotence is an indisputably powerful card. I've just been wondering how much Yawgmoth decks need the card advantage when Yawg is already so good at drawing cards himself. I'm brewing a Yawg deck right now but it's leaning very heavily on the discard ability so I really don't want to exile the cards as I discard them.

Yeah, Horobi does make everyone else really vulnerable but I think I'll try him out at least with the expectation that I will have the most accessible and repeatable targeted ability.

Daedalus19876 says... #13

FenIsABasicSwamp: All I can say is that effect like Cursed Totem , Linvala, Keeper of Silence , etc shut down Yawgmoth pretty hard. Part of that is inevitable, but having other sources of draw are critical.

And just remember that with Horobi in play, you won't draw cards off of Yawgmoth if you target things with his ability. That's the main reason I don't run him.

November 4, 2019 5:30 p.m.

Yeah I was already aware of countering Yawgs ability with Horobi. It’s just a different choice: kill spell or card draw. It makes him more flexible imo. Now what would happen if you sac Horobi to yawgmoth’s ability with a target I wonder.

Great deck! you are a far more advanced brewer than i so ill just state the obvious with some land suggestions... Leechridden Swamp , Cabal Stronghold , Everglades and Karn's Bastion all seem like they would fit in. also have you considered running Terrain Generator or Thawing Glaciers to get swamps out more frequently or heck even a Black Market for some mana-ramp?

November 6, 2019 9:02 a.m.

Daedalus19876 says... #16

cascadien: I don't want to run too many non-basic lands here, because they either 1) come in tapped, 2) only produce colorless mana, or 3) take away from my Swamp count for Cabal Coffers . I also am not a fan of Cabal Stronghold because it only counts basic swamps, and requires FIVE basics to be mana-positive :(

I tried Black Market , but it was very slow. I appreciate the comment and the upvote :)

Mausoleum Secrets or too conditional and unnecessary with imperial seal going in?

Too conditional, yeah. Imperial Seal is just hilariously better.

To anyone who still reads these -- would you recommend Necroskitter or Force of Despair in that slot?

Force of Despair seems like it could wreck an explosive turn from Flash Hulk or something like that.

I'm glad you finally decided to try out Necroskitter , it will definitely pull it's weight quite easily.

Ugin, the Ineffable - Definitely a cool card, can't wait to see how it plays out

Having done some testing, I'm putting Bitter Ordeal in over Necroskitter , to deal with combo decks (which I otherwise have some trouble answering). We'll see if the change sticks -- I just never find that Necroskitter does enough :(

I did notice the change as well. I'm actually horrified to deal with it, I think its a good swap.

Noticed Praetor's Grasp in the mby board, does your meta consistently contain lab man decks? If so, have you considered including the Grasp to steal lab man cards and win with infinitive draw? (Obviously a very versatile card outside of that as well.)
