Wouldn't bitter ordeal already fill that slot?
Oversold Cemetery seems cool. But with all the cheap reanimation like reanimate, animate dead and what not, it seems a bit inferior despite the value it can accrue long term. His deck storms off at times through all the card draw, rituals and ramp. Awaken the Erstwhile is an absolute powerhouse! Draw a bunch of cards through token fodder, cast awaken stripping everyone of their hands, then using yawg's ability to place counters on all the zombies, draw a bunch of cards and proliferate to kill all/most of the zombies.
Genesis Chamber is a combo piece and usually provides him with more value.

Coward_Token: The real issue with Praetor's Grasping for a wincon (no matter how hilarious) is that I have very few ways to make non-black mana here, honestly. If I just need something GONE, though, Bitter Ordeal fills that niche.
ShutUpMokuba: Honestly, Oversold Cemetery is rarely as good as it looks in this kind of deck. I only run 25 creatures, so there's rarely a huge number of creatures hanging out in my GY... and I have a lot of to-battlefield reanimation already. Dawn of the Dead is interesting, especially since I can sacrifice stuff to put it back in GY... but honestly, it's just slow: 5 mana, and only has an effect on the next upkeep.
Awaken the Erstwhile has been a little hit or miss recently, so it MIGHT get the axe... but Genesis Chamber is an incredibly strong source of tokens, and a combo piece too ;) I'd never leave home without it.

Profet93 My issue with Awaken the Erstwhile is that you discard too and that since you are facing three opponents you won't be able to get rid of even half the zombies created this way most of the times. You can't proliferate with Yawghmoth because you discarded all your cards. You need some Blowfly Infestation/Crumbling Ashes set up to make that card actually insane. On the other hand i get that Genesis Chamber is a key combo piece, i would't cut it but i still don't think you can always benefit from it more than your opponents.
Daedalus19876 i'm sure you know your deck better than i do. I was asking out of curiosity just because i'm building a yawghmoth deck myself with a lower budget and i wanted to know your opinion about those cards since i'm trying to build a version similar to yours. Also i was wandering if the deck could benefit from more protection for the commander with classics cards like Swiftfoot Boots since yawgh is the engine of the deck.

What is the primary purpose of Phyrexian Alter, to make colored mana or is it part of a combo/synergy I am unaware of?
Thoughts of replacing it with Ashnods, then replacing Grimore for Nim deathmantle? It would allow you to combo with grave titan. I'm sure this is something you have considered before but I would like to hear your thought process.

Profet93: Phyrexian Altar goes infinite with several different sets of cards centering around Nether Traitor or Reassembling Skeleton, whereas Ashnod's cannot. Which works well, since it avoids the issue of having Deathmantle as a (moderately) dead card.
Also, the flavor helps!

ShutUpMokuba: More protection is always great, but remember that you WILL have cards to discard once you start sacrificing Zombies. You can block player A with your zombies, then sacrifice your zombies before damage to put one -1 counter on each of player B's zombies, then discard one card to kill them: you can essentially neutralize twice as many zombies as you produced.

naw bro it's the Corona virus now, change the title.

Daedalus19876: could you please explain the infinites centered around Phyrexian Altar? I understand Gravecrawler + Phyrexian Altar but I see you don't have GC in the deck.

So I've recently built a Yawgmoth, Thran Physician deck that I have not play-tested yet and I used your deck as a heavy influence to some degree, I was curious if you could explain Tombstone Stairwell to me. Looking at your deck was the first time I've ever seen it and was a little confused by the card. Any help would be appreciated.

KvltWind: Apologies, I must have missed your comment! Nether Traitor or Reassembling Skeleton is the creature getting reanimated, while Phyrexian Altar plus either Genesis Chamber or Pawn of Ulamog make the necessary mana.
Skydaddy: Are you confused about how it works rules-wise, or about why I'm including it in this deck? It makes a bunch of tokens each turn (not just your turn), which you can sacrifice to Yawgmoth. Moreover, you can block with them THEN sacrifice for cards/removal. Pair with Blood Artist or Zulaport Cutthroat or Deathgreeter or Whip of Erebos for best results ;) It's basically Ophiomancer on steroids.

This deck is a wonderful creation and I find the precautions in the description to be a really good gesture. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the don't hoard masks message Daed! Coming from the pharmacy realm of the medical field I can't stress enough that people need to leave masks for those in the medical field, especially those on the front lines. We can't safely take care of you without them!

As a fellow Phyrexian at heart, I love this deck. I have my own attempt at a Phyrexian masterpiece in Chainer, the Spoop Lord and have really liked some of your inclusions since our strategies are very similar. I might look into Awaken the Erstwhile too. You reckon you could spare a look? I'd love some feedback.
How do you find the ramp situation in your deck; do you find yourself wanting, or do the rituals keep you mostly covered?
Same question with the lifegain, since i find having the ability to pay life on your commander really takes you into a dangerous position a lot of the time.

_Putrefax: I can take a look sometime soon, when I finish my mountains of work! I don't generally find myself TOO lacking in ramp -- in the long game, I can rely on Coffers/Urborg, and in the short-game rituals are often better (since we rarely lack for card draw). Regarding life gain, that's kinda an ongoing question. Gary does good work, and Whip of Erebos is great, but I've been considering whether to put Bloodchief Ascension back in...

Coward_Token: Of course! Lots of great new stuff in this set for Yawgmoth.

Seems to me like you'd struggle if you hit with Rest in Peace or other graveyard hate to stop your recurring bodies for your wincons. Maybe run the Bloodchief Ascension + Mindcrank combo as a way to win without your graveyard?
Some other things i thought might be cool would be the depletion counter lands like Peat Bog and Bottomless Vault, since your commander can proliferate the counters on them to make them tap for big mana.
New Ikoria spoilers added a couple spicy inclusions to your deck too - including a Blood Artist effect on an enchantment, and a 4CMC exile removal spell you can cast for free as long as your commander is out.

_Putrefax: While I agree that I do struggle with Rest in Peace, I think that's just an unavoidable part of playing mono-black. For the moment, though, it's a small enough problem that I'm not willing to devote two slots to a different combo, where one of the two slots in that combo (Mindcrank) actively hurts me (by giving my opponents a GY to play with).
I actually have tinkered with the counter lands, but they've never quite... worked right here. They make it so that, essentially, I am forced to proliferate each turn, which is rarely the right move. Actually, the one land I HAVE considered is City of Shadows, but that seems perhaps a little janky even for me.
And yeah, I have a bunch of stuff to add from Ikoria and C20! The highest priorities are Bastion of Remembrance, Deadly Rollick, Netherborn Altar, and Nesting Grounds. I may also run Daring Fiendbonder and Dredge the Mire, but I'm more doubtful on these.
April 11, 2020 4:36 a.m.
So what have you considered removing to add in the new cards from your sideboard?
Maybe add a fetchland in place of a swamp? That way you can have fun top deck manipulation (should you decide to put in top, blasphemey)

Profet93: I haven't really had time to look at this deck closely recently. But I'm still probably not putting any fetch lands in. I don't have any topdeck-related cards in here.
Deadly Rollick, Netherborn Altar, and Nesting Grounds are the most important additions for this deck. Nightmare Shepherd is another likely addition.
May 14, 2020 7:50 p.m.
I should add the having the fetchland allows you to instant speed bring in witches cottage from your deck which might be useful. But you're right, the fetch isn't needed.
Maybe cut volrath's stronghold for nesting grounds? Both fit in land slot, nesting has more overall synergy,p articularlly with netherborn altar.
Maybe cut culling the weak and/or imp's mischief? Culling has been hit or miss when you use it. Its nice for the late end as a ritual when you have an established boardstate, and can ramp you into Yawgmoth quickly, but I've never liked it personally. Imp's mischief is so amazing, but a bit situational?

What about Oversold Cemetery and Dawn of the Dead? Also i'm not sure about Awaken the Erstwhile and Genesis Chamber.
