Profet93: Honestly, this deck is due for a full rebuild eventually anyway.

EDIT: Commented on the wrong deck

All of these are good potential additions. Looking forward to what you do!

Was crypt ghast always in here? Curious how its been playing for you.

I see you switched Ugins, how is it been? I imagine profilerating Ugin seems like a good time and can help get rid of pesky colored enchantments

I remember bloodchief ascension was in an earlier iteration of the deck, it seems winmore? Or is it so easy to get online once you draw a bunch of cards and rituals that the benefits overweigh the potential win-more aspect of it?

I'm really glad to see imperial seal back in here!

How has black market been working for you?

Profet93: I haven't gotten to test these changes yet, honestly. I swapped Ugins to use his ult as a wincon, rather than trying to use him primarily for removal. Plus, when I can keep the board clear he does great work.

Crypt Ghast has been in here since the beginning, yeah. He's good.

Bloodchief is back in because I couldn't resist the beautiful foil. I'm hoping I can use it as a way to offset life loss from Yawgmoth, and to keep certain infinite combos from working.

I actually might be cutting Imperial Seal so I can sell it, haha.

I haven't gotten to cast Black Market yet, and I've also been considering running Revel in Riches instead...

Both of these are getting slammed into this deck.

Cards to be removed in their place?

Good morning :)

So I've been playing the Yawgmoth deck with my friends, and it is heavily based on the deck you built, with a few alterations to be a little more competitive (we're a pretty cutthroat group, but not quite cEDH levels).

I honestly think these two cards, while they do what other aspects of the deck already do, I think their mana costs make them too slow for your early game. Playing the deck I found that I really don't want to be spending turns doing nothing, and playing a setup 5 drop strikes me as weak here. Both these cards caught my attention but as I spent time analyzing and thinking about them they eventually came off my "maybe list".

The cards that I think are really going into this deck from the new set (so far), are Jeweled Lotus, and Opposition Agent. I was originally happy with War Room, but upon testing I really don't want more colourless lands in the deck.

I check your updates on this deck regularly for brainstorming purposes and will be available for any discussion :)

Daedalus19876 I was wondering what you thought of some of the new cards from Commander Legends. We got a good number of things to mess around with, and I'm also super excited to play with Tevesh Szat, Doom of Fools and Szat's Will in the deck. Szat let's you +2 to effectively draw 2 with Yawgmoth out, or +1 to draw 2 anyway, so it seems super good. Plus, it's another sac outlet, and his ultimate is potentially reachable with Yawgmoth's proliferate!

It also took me a while to realize that Szat's Will is an instant; I thought it was a sorcery for some reason, but it being an instant makes it much better and useful since you will likely be able to use it as both removal and token generation (which around mid-game when this card would likely be cast, could net you around 4+ tokens). Also... instant mass Bojuka Bog lmao.

Perhaps you could try cutting Black Market for the planeswalker, at least. I don't really like upkeep effects like that anymore, but I can see why you'd use it since it's potentially a shit ton of mana.

Other cards that caught my eye were Exquisite Huntmaster and Opposition Agent. I cut my copy of Rite of Belzenlok for Huntmaster since it can give you more mileage, a max total of 8 creatures to sacrifice (provided you still have 3 opponents). Opposition Agent is also... stupidly good, so I decided to swap it in as a replacement for Liliana's Standard Bearer since drawing isn't really hard at all in the deck.

Archon_Bel: I need to update this list, I've made some changes. I'm not an OVERWHELMING fan of Huntmaster, I was probably cutting Rite of Belzenlok for Tevesh Szat, but the other changes you made are all ones I approve of.

As always, thank you for the insight! Huntmaster wasn't on my radar before, and now I'm considering him -- he's convenient as something I can discard and get back later at my leisure :D

How do you feel about Jeweled Lotus?

Daedalus19876 You're welcome!

Honestly, I didn't pay that much attention to Jeweled Lotus simply because it was wayyyyy out of my budget range and I usually don't crack open a lot of packs or boxes to chance getting anything good (but I was sure surprised as fuck last night when I opened a Mana Drain and two of those new opponent lands lol). HOWEVER, objectively speaking, a turn 1 Yawgmoth seems pretty appealing provided you can actually do stuff with him not long after you get him out (I never feel comfortable putting him out unless I can sac a few things by next turn at the latest), and I definitely don't think it's a bad card in the slightest. If you can get it, I'd definitely try it out!

Jeweled lotus is INSANE...too strong. In 10 games that i ve played it worked hard!

So, to summarize:

IN - Opposition Agent, Szat's Will, Jeweled Lotus, Tevesh Szat, Doom of Fools

OUT - ????

Rite of Belzenlok, Liliana's Standard Bearer, and Black Market have been thrown around as possible cuts. Easy enough to swap for Tevesh, Agent, and Will, but what do we cut for Lotus?

Daedalus19876 I would love to see this updated when you get a chance.

Liliana's Standard Bearer seems way too good to cut IMO

Here are my opinions of the remaining possible cuts (assuming Lili standard bearer stays) from most likely to cut to least likely....

Reaper from the Abyss - Seems unnecessary but probably wont be cut for fun reasons

Ugin, the Spirit Dragon - Additional answer, potential wincon (with profilerate) and value engine, but costs a lot of mana and affects your own board. Idk how it's played for you, but cutting more expensive cards for cheaper ones seems right up your alley

Culling the Weak/Cabal Ritual - Requires a creature/Weak without threshold. I understand rituals are needed once you draw into cards to go into explosive plays, not sure if both are necessary

manvsamerica: I'll work to update it soon! Rite of Belzenlok and Black Market and Netherborn Altar are definitely out. Liliana's Standard Bearer is really strong, but I'll consider it. Ugin is a potential cut, but I'm unsure. I also need to add some stuff from Zendikar Rising, so I'm considering...

Upgrade is finally made! For now, I'm going with adding Opposition Agent, Szat's Will, Jeweled Lotus, and Tevesh Szat, Doom of Fools, and removing Black Market, Netherborn Altar, Rite of Belzenlok, and Murderous Rider (for now). Bloodchief Ascension would probably have been a better cut than Rider, but I just have a personal fondness for that card...

Loving the changes and the deck continues to be super cool.

I want to give you a heads up that I've been having huge success with Relic Vial since Yawgmoth is a Cleric as it's an Aristocrats piece that is significantly harder to get rid of.

Voitagi: Interesting idea, I hadn't considered Relic Vial! I've found that Bastion of Remembrance works great, so I'll take a look at whether I can add the vial :)

The three cards I'm looking to add from Khaldiem are:

Eradicator Valkyrie Varragoth, the Bloodsky Sire Rise of the Dread Marn

Has there been anything else that's caught your eye? Or any of these you're not a fan of?

January 26, 2021 1:33 p.m.

Daedalus19876 says... #22

Voitagi: Rise of the Dread Marn is the only thing I'll be adding, I think. But potentially Tyrite Sanctum as well, since I could proliferate with Yawgmoth and move the counters with Nesting Grounds?

January 26, 2021 3:15 p.m.

Archon_Bel says... #23

Draugr Necromancer is one card I'd like to try out in my Yawgmoth deck. It's mostly for fun because I'd love to be able to play my opponents' creatures against them, but it technically also doubles as graveyard hate by exiling the creatures you kill.

Dream Devourer seems interesting as a way to technically reduce mana costs for cards, allowing for a later explosive play, but it seems pretty slow all things considered.

Daedalus19876 says... #24

Archon_Bel: Dream Devourer mostly interests me as a way to dodge Mindslicer.

Hey there Daedalus, long time lurker here. I've been slowly transforming my Yawgmoth built using TCQ's list into something more akin to yours. So far I've managed to make my 75% of my playgroup very very salty by adding more consistency into my combo while fixing my mana base and adding more sorceries and instants and some of the artifacts you use into my list. For Kaldheim, I've added Draugr Necromancer, Rise of the Dread Marn, Varragoth, Bloodsky Sire. Waiting for my copy of Tyrite Sanctum to arrive and still pondering about Dream Devourer since sometimes there will be Wheel players at my LGS.
