Well, Liliana's Reaver forces them to discard just like Hypnotic Specter . If you could keep removal spells out of their hand and get either of those cards to connect for combat damage, that's awesome.

I am starting to think that Lightning Bolt is better than Hypnotic Specter .

The article in question is outdated, 2010, and a full-spell discard deck is a bet. Mono-Black 8Rack players tend to have the problem of relying too much on Ensnaring Bridge and against a diverse meta (like a FNM full of pricy decks), splashing red was a good choice from you and playing a couple creatures is for your best. That, or playing mass removal like Mutilate , Black Sun's Zenith , Killing Wave and Damnation - the $$$ timeshifted Wrath of God for black,

Hypnotic Specter have evasion, 2/2 body and discard effect. Why not both cards?

What to take out though?

9 combo enablers is maybe two much. Plus Megrim is just a bad Liliana's Caress ... mana cost wise. 4 Lili? And many persons point you that is a lot mana-extensive. In the same logic, Blightning is a whole more efficient than the "mythic" Rakdos's Return , it's always 3 damage and 2 discard for 3 mana, don't get Rakdos's Return , it's a scam! You can also use Augur of Skulls to triggers the caress or use Nyxathid to defend yourself.

Plus, Liliana's Caress is life loss where Megrim can be prevented because it's damage.

Cool deck, upvoted :) In a BR discard, I'd suggest 4 Rise/Fall , which is awesome. Also, you're missing a playset of Lightning Bolt ;)

Omg, dude, I love the shout out to Magic in Scouts. That's where I got my start in magic. It's great to hear someone with the same story. Plus, I love the deck. I run a similar one, but it's U/B. I'd recommend Hymn to Tourach. It's not that expensive ($-wise or mana-wise), and the effect is so brutal.

If you REALLY wanted to make the deck competitive you could add the expensive Thoughtseize and/or Liliana of the Veil (like Diresam12 said) to it. Also you can board Terminate and Surgical Extraction in case there is a card in their yard that you don't want to see again.

I do have an extra Stormbreath Dragon I pulled from a pack, I'll try bringing it to the table to trade to get some of these cool cards.

Hey there man, i've had a lot of fun messing around with my own version of this If Only I Had a Brain. I love the Burning Inquiry in this and might have to take them for my deck.

All i have to say is, Megrim is kind of garbage imho. A 3 drop on our 3rd turn would much better be spent on a Blightning to get cards out of our opponents hands before they can cast them. With 4 Liliana's Caress ' in here you will be already dealing 7 damage on turn 3. I'd also suggest Sign in Blood over Read the Bones . I like being able to deal 2 damage to my opponent and give them 2 cards to discard and deal further damage to them.

I know they are a little bit on the expensive side, but Rakdos's Return are really awesome. Also, Exquisite Blood work really well with the live loss going down.

Terminate over Doom Blade personally, other than that, awesome.

Master of the Feast might be a nice fit for this deck, as you would want an opponent to have some cards in their hand so that you can do damage to them by making them discard.

I've also got a discard deck if you wanted to take a look at it, Macabre.

Maybe Blazing Specter, Kolaghan's Command and Wrench Mind. I think those would be good cards for the deck. I understand that the Commands might be a little out of your price range but they would be so sikk.

Also maybe some Raven's Crime.

I probably would put wheel of fortune in there somwhere
