Blightpires
Its efficient and reliable. I promise! Now why did I decide to go RB? If any of you saw my last vampire list, and the BAZILLION times I changed it, you saw I was pretty set on being all black Well Ill tell you what happened, Ill just be honest. JUND Happened. Id been kicking everyones ass, every single deck I played I could own with my mono black. But then jund just.. well.. owned me. I was always wishing I had a Blightning, or a Terminate or a
Thought Hemorrhage
.. And now. I do ?
Okay, I will explain and rate each cards use in the deck alphabetically,
3 Stars, Akoum Refuge; allows me to get my red mana out without sacrificing a slot to a mountain. It does come into play tapped, but usually Ill have something else to play with my remaining mana. And the 1 life gain making up for one of my fetches doesnt hurt either.
5 Stars, Blightning; the uses of Blightning are obvious; hell half the cards name is in my deck name. This card is (in my opinion) the best card advantage in standard, not to mention burn! Im still amazed by this card every single time it is dropped, on me or by me!
5 Stars, Bloodghast: This guy is NASTY. And you know it too! If youd had the pleasure, or the misfortune of playing with or against this vampire, you know damn well how good and versatile a card he is. Besides the obvious, you can actually combo him with Terminate against control decks, (In response to them pathing him, or an ajani trying to lock him down, or just killing him general). No more explanation necessary, this guy is GROSS.
5 Stars, Dragonskull Summit: This land is awesome! In a two-color deck especially, this guy lets me play my wonderful blightnings and terminates! If only Akoum Refuge could be more like Dragonskull Summit :/
5 Stars, Duress: Name a deck that duress doesnt help against Exactly! I could be taking a Conqueror's Pledge, Luminarch Ascension, Garruk Wildspeaker, or someone elses Blightning, but regardless of what I take, it helps a lot! Sure standard is still full of lots of agro, but man they still have so many crucial support spells, duress is a must in any deck running black.
4 Stars:
Gatekeeper of Malakir
: His timing isnt always spot on, and my opponent does get to pick the creature, but a solid 2/2 for 2, and a
Cruel Edict
for 1? Id be crazy not to run that!
4 Stars: Marsh Flats: Helps me thin my deck, which is good because the largest things I have to drop only have a converted mana cost of 4, so I definitely dont need an excess of lands, which is still quite possible to accomplish with 22 mana sources (Im counting the borderposts). Obviously the added help for returning a bloodghast twice, and shuffling my library so I can have a happy vampire nocturnes, are the real reasons why Marsh flats is in here.
4 Stars Quest for the Graveyard: You might look and be like, four? Really? Four in the main board? But listen to this, creatures die okay? Your creatures are going to die to my removal, and my creatures are going to die to yours. Whats going to happen in the background? Im going to get a 5/5! Thats what! That I can pop out and INSANT speed! I love so much when silly people drop Day of Judgment not realizing it will set off two of my quests, which makes me swing and them for 10 the next turn, thanks num nuts <3. But obviously people dont always play lots of creatures for me to kill (Unfortunately) thus the 4 star rating
1 Stars, Swamp: All you do is add mana! Argh!
5 Stars, Terminate: THE best removal in standard, destroy ANY creature. Bam. Thank you, come again.
4 Stars,
Thought Hemorrhage
:
Thought Hemorrhage
in the main board? What, what, what? Ya damn right! I mean come on, by turn four I know what theyre playing, even if its a rouge deck I can make a guess, especially if I already used duress. Although the truth is that it doesnt give me any damage or any card advantage if one of them isnt in their hand, thus 4 stars.
5 Stars, Vampire Hexmage: Zomfg, best card ever. What is your combo? Its dead, as is your planeswalker. Oh and first strike too? Just for shits and giggles? Awesome ?
5 Stars, Vampire Nighthawk: Deathtouch, Lifelink, Flying. Please remove me, or I will kill you. No further explanation needed.
5 Stars, [Vampire Nocturnus]]: Its the king, hes here. In this deck he is most often a 5/4 for four with flying. That alone is awesome! But if I have ANY other creature (I say any because theyre all vampires) in play, they get the same +2/+1 and flying bonus, which is just NUTS! If you have used or fought against this card, you know damn well why its here. I am running just three though, I cant stand drawing two in my opening hand, and gosh it drives me nuts.
4 Stars,
Veinfire Borderpost
: Mana correction, and it counts as a black card for Vampire Nocturnus. Another added bonus is the fact that it bounces back a land to my hand for another shot to bring back Bloodghast. The most uncommon bonus is me playing it for 3 mana on turn three, which is technically 1 mana excel, cool eh?
4 Stars, Verdant Catacombs: See Marsh Flats for this deck they work just the same.
