Elspeth's Ghost Council of Vizkopa

Standard Competitive Control WUB (Esper)

kmcree

Sideboard

After a few weeks of playing with it, I've really come to love this deck. I'm now 6-1-1 since reworking the mana a little bit, with the only loss coming to a very strong G/R monsters deck after 3 great games. Blood Baron of Vizkopa really shines in this deck, and he wins me about 60-70% of my games. The deck is very versatile and can match up decently well against pretty much everything in my meta. Its very fun to play, and I would recommend it for anyone looking for a solid control deck for today's standard meta.

Any comments and/or suggestions are welcome.

And please don't forget to +1 if you like it!

Updates Add

Was able to play in my first tournament since adding the Temple of Enlightenment and 3rd Blood Baron of Vizkopa. The mana base seems much stronger.

Round 1: Selesnya Aggro, 2-1

I actually happened to run into my buddy piloting my other deck:

Game 1 he got mana screwed, I dropped a T5 Baron, and he really couldn't do anything about it. Game 2 he got off to a super fast start, I couldn't find a Verdict until T6, and then he dropped an Advent of the Wurm post Verdict and finished me. Game 3 I dropped a T3 Ashiok, stole Soldier of the Pantheon, Fleecemane Lion and Loxodon Smiter to protect myself, and burned through 3/4s of his deck. I then dropped Jace, Memory Adept and finished milling him out.

Round 2: Bant, 1-1-1

This was the most fun I've had in weeks. His deck was sort of midrange, lots of early game ramping and control leading into Jace, Architect of Thought, Kiora, the Crashing Wavefoil, Elspeth, Sun's Champion, Archangel of Thune, and Angel of Serenity. Game 1 was a stalemate for about 12-15 turns. We each dropped various planeswalkers which were then removed. He built up a decent board, and I dropped a Verdict. Finally he was able to drop 2 Courser of Kruphix and an Archangel of Thune and get them to stick long enough to kill me. Game 2 I detention sphere'd a Kiora, thought seized an Elspeth, and pithing needle'd a Jace. I dropped a Baron, he countered with an Archangel, and we went back and forth for a few turns. I was able to Verdict, then immediately dropped Elspeth, and at that point he couldn't keep up. We only had about 8 minutes left for Game 3 and didn't come close to finishing.

Round 3: Mono Red Burn, 2-0

Basic burn deck, lots of instants along with Young Pyromancer, Guttersnipe, and Satyr Firedancer. Game 1 she got me down to 1 life, but I was able to stabilize, drop an Elspeth, and avoid a last burn spell long enough to win. Game 2 I drew a hand full of counters and spot removal. I was able to counter or remove everything she tried, and eventually dropped another Elspeth for an easy win.

All in all, I'm very happy with the deck. Now that the land base is finally fixed, I haven't had any mana problems at all. I haven't really found a matchup I can't handle (although I haven't run into a weenie deck since adding the Drown in Sorrow to the sideboard).

As always, let me know what you think about the build, and I'll be sure to update with my progress soon!
