If you do run Liliana of the Dark Realms, try adding Griselbrand. He is such a forgotten threat atm.

I think that 3x Cloudshift and 3x Azorius Arrester would be better as 3x Blind Obedience 3x Desecration Demon
March 11, 2013 10:12 a.m.
Cloudshift on an undead Geralf's Messenger...always fun. I run a similar build using Doomed Traveler, Lingering Souls with Altar's Reap and Bone Splinters for card draw and removal. I too would recommend MB Blind Obedience as it fits the life sapping theme with extort.
Nice list. Happy gaming.

I originally had 2 Blind in MB for the extort and the tapped action. I took them out for some more control, but I may just cycle them back in for the Sign in Blood. I am not sure yet.

Instead of azorious arrester, thrull parasite. _~ I'd also knock down your plains -2, +2 swamp. You need to be able to get geralf's out. Instead of sign in blood, try altar's reap, its actually been winning me games hah, its much better than sign in blood atm. Also, if your going for midrange, using aggro creatures like crawler is usually bad. This is still more aggro than midrange, you just happen to curve out on Obzedat. Cheers!

Very True mate, thank you. I will consider the Thrull, so far the arrester has proven pretty usefull in play test, tho the Thrull will let me exort.
I originally had that with the mana, but play testing I added did the minus two to add more plains. I was always hitting my swamps but not always my plains.
I will give Alters a go, and I am running crawler for some early game presence. I will gladly sub out if I get a good suggestion for early game or a cheap control drop.
Thanks for the feedback mate!

I am on the fence about adding the demon to the deck to be honest. It is a wonderful card and fits into most black, but I don't think he is for this deck.
March 11, 2013 7:20 p.m.
What about Smite for control? You can play it before combat damage is dealt, saying your blocker.
March 11, 2013 7:46 p.m.
No problem! Glad you like the suggestions. If you get a chance come take a gander at my two tourney level decks! Dark Naya and Grixis Aggro.

I never really considered smite. I considered it to situational for removal, but now since my creature count is higher it might be worth considering. I will make sure to check out your decks and +1 them mate.

Glad to help! :) I'm picking up some tricks here and there as I get more serious about magic.

+1; looks pretty solid. How's the Mutilate working out for you?

It does wonders in any deck that can utilize it. It is, to me at least, one of the best, if not the best board clear in meta right now. Nothing really saves you from it, especially if you have the mana. It gets around Boros Charm and other indestructible creatures, and it can hit hexproof last time I looked at the ruling.
It is a game changer pretty much. I run 3 copies in my mono Black Blood artist deck, which will soon be an Orzhov as well, for the better sac outlet and access to Lingering Souls
March 12, 2013 12:46 p.m.
Mutilate would be better if it didn't destroy your own board presence at the same time. I would try Sever the Bloodline. I also have to suggest one of my favorite problem solvers Appetite for Brains.

Yeah, I meant to add the brains to my sideboard. I forgot to, thank you for that. It does have it's draw backs agreed, but most of the time when you play it, you are not losing much.
I love Sever but my Meta and the Meta in general seems to be shifting where Sever is not as great. At least to me.
March 12, 2013 1:08 p.m.
Rest in Peace in the sideboard doesn't seem quite right either considering what it would do to you, consider Tormod's Crypt.
March 12, 2013 1:16 p.m.
People talk about the drawback to Sever the same way they do Duress, but honestly for 1 mana you are paying to see your opponent's hand. Forget the frosting on the cake you already got the cake.

Looking at what they have coming is an amazing Advantage in it's own. If you get to get rid of something as well...well lets just say this is adding candles to the cake for you to blow out. I took out the Rest in Peace. When It first made its way into my sideboard I wasn't running much that I played out of the graveyard.
Right now in my meta, Witchbane Orb is not really needed so took that out for brains for now. If I have to side in duress, I can just do a 2/2 split.
March 12, 2013 1:25 p.m.
Personally, I would take out the Gravecrawlers and put in the Crypt Ghast
March 13, 2013 6:02 p.m.
x8bitGangsta says... #24
Hmm I would have to make a few changes for crypt ghast. It seems to be playing more agroish for me than midrange which is fine,
March 13, 2013 6:11 p.m.
I think the Azorius Arrester is a weak spot in the deck. Cartel Aristocrat would be better in that slot imo.
illsanity says... #1
Instead of Ultimate Price I would use a more efficient kill spell like Killing Glare or like you were saying Victim of Night because there are a lot of multicolor cards right now. Other than that it's a good deck. +1
