I believe Extus, Oriq Overlord   is one of the most powerful commander to come out in Strixhaven and is being overlooked in favor of flashy dragons, Simic things, and a better Boros. From what I have seen people think Extus, Oriq Overlord   is simply an aristocrat style commander; and while he can be built that way, I believe building him that way is trap. He is not as good as other commanders we already have for an aristocrat playstyle and his true strengths lay in properly using Awaken the Blood Avatar and the fact that no matter how many times it gets countered/cast you will always have access to it.

This deck may or may not be the best build for Extus, Oriq Overlord  , but the the style is way more powerful than simple value aristocrat. The current builds of this deck is super consistent and fast, often winning around turn 5; however, it can win on turn 1 with the correct hand.

If, after reading the below and trying it for yourself, you don't think Extus, Oriq Overlord   is powerful, I would love to hear your comments below.

Guiding Idea

The guiding idea of the deck is to get one of the infinite colored mana combos running, cast your commander sorcery a million times, and then win; either by declaring an attack with all your hasty tokens and doing 3x the number of tokens damage to each player or by having one of the cards under WinCons on the field or in hand to cast when you go off.

The deck originally was designed to create lots of tokens to sac to the Blood Avatar and then copy the cast as many times as possible. However, play testing showed that was too slow and unreliable for my meta. Since not everyone likes playing with infinite combos I have left the cards I was looking at for the original build of the deck in the Maybe board.

Infinite Mana

Please use whatever infinite mana combos that fit these colors for which you have the cards. The ones I have are explained below.

Felidar Combo Show

Felidar Guardian + Molten Echoes+ Red Mana Source + Black Mana Source or Felidar Guardian + Molten Echoes+ Dockside Extortionist

1. Cast Felidar Guardian.
2. On ETB, both Felidar Guardian and Molten Echoes will trigger.
3. Resolve the Felidar Guardian trigger first targeting a mana source tapping it to float mana or Dockside, then blinking it.
4. Resolve Molten Echoes' trigger, creating a Felidar Guardian token copy.
5. Blink the original Felidar Guardian with the token's ETB Blink.
6. The original Felidar Guardian ETBs taking us back to the second step.

This combo will result in infinite mana and infinite hasty Felidar Guardians that will exile at the next end step.

Persist Show

This will require a Sacrifice Outlet, a Persist creature, and something to remove the -1/-1 counter from the creature.

1. Sacrifice Outlet:
Phyrexian Altar the sacrifice outlet of choice since it can provide all the colored mana needed to cast your commander as many times as you like.
2. Persist:
Murderous Redcap and Putrid Goblin are the only creatures in the deck with persist.
3. -1/-1 Counter Removal:
First Day of Class-Gives all creatures a +1/+1 counter on ETB, this turn to cancel the -1/-1 counter from persist.
Vizier of Remedies-Just straight up removes the -1/-1 counter.

Lion's Eye Diamond Show

Lion's Eye Diamond + Auriok Salvagers's active ability create the preferred infinite mana loop in this deck. It is fully self-contained and is much cheaper than the other loops at only 4 mana to start. The only thing you have to watch out for is making sure you create 2x the white mana you need first since you need 1 white mana to activate Auriok Salvagers when using Lion's Eye Diamond to make black and red mana.

1. Cast Auriok Salvagers.
2. Cast Lion's Eye Diamond.
3. Sacrifice Lion's Eye Diamond, discarding your hand, to get 3 white mana.
4. Activate Auriok Salvagers to return Lion's Eye Diamond to your hand. Generating +1 white mana.
5. Repeat steps 2-4 until you have an arbitrarily large amount of white mana (2 billion white mana).
6. Repeat steps 2-4 until you have an arbitrarily large amount of black or red mana (1 billion black mana).
7. Repeat steps 2-4 until you have an arbitrarily large amount of the other color of mana (1 billion red mana).
8. End up with 1 billion white, black, and red mana.

Cloudstone Extortionist Show

This combo is only infinite mana if there is at least 1 more artifact and enchantment on the field under opponents control than the cost of playing Dockside Extortionist and one other creature you control. Can use your commander as the other creature to cast but that would require 7+ artifact/enchantments on the field under your opponents control; which is a lot depending on your meta. This deck has several 2 mana creatures you could use instead to make it easier to get the combo off.

1. Have Cloudstone Curio and your second creature on the field. In this example we will use Extus, Oriq Overlord   since he should always be available to cast.
2. Cast Dockside Extortionist and create at least 7 treasure tokens.
3. Bounce Extus, Oriq Overlord   back to hand due to Cloudstone Curio's trigger.
4. Sacrifice 4 treasure tokens and cast Extus, Oriq Overlord  .
5. Bounce Dockside Extortionist back to hand due to Cloudstone Curio's trigger.
6. Sacrifice 2 treasure tokens and cast Dockside Extortionist. Looping back to step 2 and netting at least 1 treasure token per loop.

Win Conditions

Focus on of this deck is to cast Awaken the Blood Avatar as many times as you want and the win conditions of the deck focus on that game plan. The basic win condition of the deck is you just use the Blood Avatar tokens to attack for the win. However, there are a couple of cards included to help ensure the win without the combat step by using the cast of Awaken the Blood Avatar or the Blood Avatar token entering the battlefield to do damage to your opponents.

Blood Avatar Show

A 3/6 black and red Avatar creature token with haste and "Whenever this creature attacks, it deals 3 damage to each opponent." Create a billion of them and then declare them as attackers to do 3 billion damage to all your opponents.

As I stated earlier, with the correct hand you can win on turn 1. This is the hand and how to do it.

Hand Show

Opening Hand needed is Mana Crypt, Mana Vault, Lion's Eye Diamond, Auriok Salvagers, and 1 white land, or any land and an Arcane Signet.

Line of Play Show

1. Play Mana Crypt, Lion's Eye Diamond, and your land for turn. Tap the land and Mana Crypt to make 2 colorless and 1 white mana.
2. Use one colorless mana to play Mana Vault. Tap Mana Vault to add 3 colorless for a total of 4 colorless and 1 white.*
3. Cast Auriok Salvagers for 3 colorless and 1 white mana.
4. At this point you use the loop described in the Lion's Eye Diamond portion of the Infinite Mana section to create an arbitrarily large amount of white, black, and red mana.
5. Cast Awaken the Blood Avatar an arbitrarily large amount of times to create an arbitrarily large amount of Blood Avatars.
6. Move to combat and declare all the tokens as attackers to do 3x an arbitrarily large amount of Blood Avatars in damage to all opponents.

*If your land is not a white producing land you should use 1 colorless and the mana produced by your land to cast Arcane Signet and then tap the Arcane Signet for the white mana needed to cast Auriok Salvagers.
