I thought Soul Sisters was better with White and Red? Because then you can run Norin the Wary and Purphoros, God of the Forge. Then again, I don't really know much about the deck.

@dooblydor, that's different deck, generally called Soul Chamber - as it runs Genesis Chamber along with the cards you mentioned.

Souls sisters traditionally runs Proclamation of Rebirth, which I think fits here. Being able to repeatedly forecast it in the late game is extremely powerful. And unlike Soul chamber, a mass reanimating like Return to the Ranks is not a win con in your deck - just a stall.

The only real issue i see here is a lack of a consistent win-con. Big Pridemates and Champion of the Parish's can be chumped for days. Im assuming your building the deck for Modern (it's listed as standard now), and few decks can win a modern match-up by swinging with beatsticks every turn with no evasion - and the one Archangel can't be relied on. You can tackle that any number of ways... Felidar Sovereign's probably your best bet.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I actually considered a RW build with norin, and a Mardu build with everything. I would like to find a home for my Bobs and Bitterblossom so i decided to go BW.

I run Return to the Ranks over Proclamation of Rebirth so i can reanimate Dark Confidant, Ajani's Pridemate and Auriok Champion in addition to all my one drops. Isn't that a big enough upside to run it over Proclamation of Rebirth? The idea is to draw lots with Dark Confidant. They will keep bolting and terminating my creatures, only for me to bring it all back with Return to the Ranks late game (stacking a lot of triggers). Reanimating 4 creatures, lets say Ajani's Pridemate, Soul Warden, Soul's Attendant and Champion of the Parish will give me a 8/8 Ajani's Pridemate, 4/4 Champion of the Parish and 6 life. And this if i dont have any sisters out already. All for 6 convokable mana.

Ive considered Serra Ascendant for a wincon with evasion, but because of Dark Confidant and Bitterblossom im guessing its gonna be hard to consistently get to 30 life. Thoughts?

To your first point, Traditional soul sisters has the same issue (apart from bob), and still decides to run Proclamation of Rebirth. I don't think your logic is wrong, there's lots of value there, I just think playtesting shows that it's the better card for that deck - and I can't really see why yours is different enough to not go the same way. In the situation you described, most modern decks wouldn't scoop to see that resolve, they'd just think "well this game just got 20 minutes longer".

With a sister out, blossom is neutral, and you only run 3 cards above 3cmc, so i don't think the life loss from bob will be a problem in keeping your life above 30.

Another idea: run Rally the Ancestors instead with Felidar Sovereign. you're life can well under 40 making Felidar no apparent threat, rally on their endstep for mass lifegain above 40. Felidar trigers on upkeep and you have an out of nowhere insta-win.

I dont like Felidar Sovereign as a card or wincon, and probably wont use it for that reason.

How about finding space for 1-2 Brave the Elements? The card not only saves most of my guys from spot removal, but also allows me to alpha stike my opponent..

So, since im not at all familiar with Soul Sisters, this is the challenge: A deck with 4x Dark Confidant and 2-4 Bitterblossom. 8-12 sisters to make up for all the life loss. Everything else is up for debate (altho i do like Champion of the Parish since i have lots of humans and Ajani's Pridemate since i have lots of lifegain). How would your list look like? I do have one unused Sword of Light and Shadow so that would be a nice addition. Post your lists :)

i'm building a somewhat similar deck with more 2 drops than 1 drops. I have included a few Sun Titan and Reveillark for some beefier creatures that provide the recursion of Return to the Ranks. both cards bring back 2 drops. Sun Titan can even bring back Bitterblossom if it gets destroyed.

Yeah I'd probably cut red unless you were planning on adding some Lightning Bolt, Purphoros, God of the Forge, Dragon Fodder etc. Otherwise, I really like it. You could also try incorporating Blood Artist in here with the black.

Dont know yet. Its hard to take something out. However i like a deck with her and 4x Wall of Omens, 4x Elvish Visionary and 4x Return to the Ranks as a lifegain/card draw engine. Its another deck tho. Im considering her as a one-of in this deck mostly because she has a very good body for 2 mana and her first ability gives me value when they remove the cat. Her second ability is unreliable because of Dark Confidant, Thoughtseize and Bitterblossom, but if i reach 30 life with her on the board i will probably win..

Its hard to take anything out from this deck. Im gonna experiment a bit with her tho.

Think you could make room for Ajani Goldmane Elspeth TirelDecree of Justice. They would be a sexy fit...

bishopboy3 i think Elspeth, Knight-Errant would be the best planeswalker as she both creates dudes and gives Ajani's Pridemate flying. And ive been considering Secure the Wastes (Decree of Justice is not modern legal), but its hard to find room for this.

I forgot about Secure the Wastes and I think I even have 1-2. Just started playing again, haven't in 2 years. Trying to keep up with all the newer cards is a pain. DO they have modern tournys where you're at? They don't around where I'm at. I'd love to do one. Standard just doesn't fully do it for me you know?

Yup modern is pretty big here. Legacy even bigger. I play sometimes at my LGS, but not that often. Im still looking for the 4x Soul Warden for this deck, and when its complete im gonna try it out in a tourney. Last time I played at my LGS I tested my Knightfall deck and was undefeated. Don't think this is gonna do better, but its a fun deck at least :)

I'd recommend Ranger of Eos to tutor up your soul warden and soul's ascendent. Also probably some more tron hate in the sideboard, as this is a pretty bad matchup since they don't really care how much life you have. Martyr of Sands might also be good sideboard material in the aggro matchup to keep you out of reach.

Thanks :). A couple of weeks ago I played a lot of games against my friend who played Tron. After loosing almost all matches against Karn and Ugin I decided to buy 4 Thoughtseize to buy me some time in that matchup, and 3 Surgical Extraction to be able to get rid of all of them after sideboard. Thoughtseize turned out to be really good a lot of other matchups, so i really like it. I think the 1 Ranger of Eos I had in the list had to move out to make room for Thoughtseize. Would you say 3 Thoughtseize and 1 Ranger of Eos would be better? Or would you take out something else for the ranger?

Tron is really hard to beat, and as I said, a friend plays it so I play a lot of kitchen table games against it. What sideboard options would you recommend? Black and white is not the best colors for land hate :(

You can use Pithing Needle to stop oblivion stone or Karn. Or Stony Silence which is also nice vs affinity

smackjack says... #18

Stony Silence doesn't stop Karn, nor Ugin. I have 2 needles in my sideboard for that..

hannibal6 says... #19

no stony silence is just for oblivion stone. In terms of dealing with planeswalkers, I've seen white decks play Oblivion Ring to deal with problematic non-creature permanents.

You could go Forbidden Orchard if you want, as it'd activate all of your lifegain triggers. Just a thought, but giving them tokens might be too much of a downside.

Ho! Ho! Ho!!!!

This deck is way way out of my budget. lol

February 9, 2016 9:11 a.m.

smackjack says... #23

Ok, but there is budget alternatives to most stuff. Dark Confidant = Phyrexian Arena. Thoughtseize = Duress (you are mostly using it to get rid of wraths anyways). Bitterblossom = Spirit Bonds since you have many cheap creatures. Auriok Champion = Suture Priest. Return to the Ranks is great if you try to limit yourself to <2 cmc creatures. Archangel of Thune is hard to replace, but can be played as a 1-of.

February 9, 2016 9:23 a.m.

Sounds great but I'm not really a fan of B/W. I can get some inspiration from this deck to make a great G/W cat deck. Thanks though. :-D

One card that i keep adding then removing is Sorin, Solemn Visitor. Now hes back in the list, replacing one of the Thoughtseizes. He is pretty badass with all the tokens, and multiple lifelinks are great with Ajani's Pridemate. His -2 is also relevant if you have sisters but no attackers.. Would you guys agree he is better than the 4th Thoughtseize?
