Everyone knows you should never take out a debt that you cannot pay back. Unfortunately this is quite often overlooked. So much in fact that Teysas books are overwhelmed with loans that are unpaid. In spite of this Teysa put together a team to enforce payment to Orzhovs loans if you don't pay in gold you will pay in blood.

About the Deck

The Idea

The idea of this deck is to steal and opponents life and make it my own. This works increasingly well with the extort mechanic and plenty of lifelinking creatures. Once your life becomes mine cards like Sanguine Bond takes taxes on top. The deck has been packed with removal to eliminate threats, Also with the help of cards like Blind Obedience my creatures will break through and steal life point by point. Although extort can be a very mana greedy mechanic Crypt Ghast gives it more than enough to hit and hard even while casting the biggest of spells. The generals of this collection department reward me for every debt collected, Archangel of Thune rewards by making the enforcers stronger. While the Blood Baron of Vizkopa becomes a much bigger force to be reckoned with. And with cards like Immortal Servitude death of my creatures is acceptable as they will be back a debt to orzhov is one that is upheld in both this world and the afterlife. Basically Control, Bleed, Kill.



The Cards


Control

Duress - Is a staple in black control. Not only do I get to see your hand but I get to remove a enchantment, Planeswalker, Instant, Or sorcery. For 1 mana it simply cannot be beat even turn 1 it can be detrimental to the game.

Blind Obedience - This card is the bane of aggro. Its stops haste in its tracks and taps those precious artifacts. It also makes sure that those creatures cant block the turn the come out especially useful to those flash blockers. Also stops the bomb Obzedat, Ghost Council in its tracks something few cards can do.

One Thousand Lashes - This is a great card even for 4 mana it fits in two of the three lists which is great. This card not only stops AEtherlings in there tracks and cards like it & bleeds at the same time, Turning there bomb into my bleeder is just epic.

Lifebane Zombie - This is one of the decks all stars. Although its best against green or white even without it still buys my a look at my opponents hand. Anyone who plays magic should know that looking at an opponents hand is priceless and for 3 mana this not only does that but it can exile some of the baddest creatures in standard. Seeing there hand can also give me insight of whether or not that Duress is worth the cast. At the end of the of the awesome ETB effect your left with a 3/1 that's hard to block being its fear effect.

High Priest of Penance - A staple of control is removal whats a better opponents creature than a dead one. Not only can the priest destroys creatures but it can also deal with any other non land permanent. The priest demands to be dealt with and its board presence can certainly change the game. This card can stop any attacks in there tracks if the opponent is sitting on a valuable resource on the board they will defiantly think twice about that attack phase. At its worst case it forces your opponent to waste a removal or detain spell thus freeing bombs from its target. With Archangel of Thune beefing it up this can easily become a game changing card.

Doom Blade & Ultimate Price - These cards are paired as there essentially the same. Remove is always valuable and while Doom Blades non black clause is bad, against black in the current meta there is few if any solo black decks odds are they have another creature without black. Ultimate Price is a beast against a mono colored decks and fix Doom Blades black clause for mono creatures. As I've said there's no better creature a opponent can have than a dead one.

Desecration Demon - Is my second all star. He fills the control role by making my opponent make a tough decision sacrifice a creature or lose a lot of life. Either way its a lose-lose for they either give me card advantage and make him stronger or they lose a sizable chunk of life. He also is a card that must be answered thus coaxing out a removal spell at worst, and making way for the game winning Archangel of Thune.

Path of Bravery - While not a control per say it is a great support card to bleeders. With Sanguine Bond in play it can rack up extra damage that's unavoidable. It also beefs up my bleeders so they can take more than there fair share of blood from my opponent. It also has the ability to assit my bombs Archangel of Thune and Blood Baron of Vizkopa. Being the only support card in the deck it does a pretty good job at its purpose and can turn a little bleed into alot.

Bleed

Sanguine Bond - The king of the bleeding. This enchantment really puts up the numbers with so much life gain. It not only doubles the damage from extort but also the lifelink from creatures even if there blocked they'll still draw blood from your opponent.

Fiendslayer Paladin - This paladin is a force to be reckoned with. Not only is he immune to most removal spells he gains life and has first strike to ensure his survival. Paired with a sanguine bond this card is a force to be reckoned with. Furthermore with Archangel of Thune he will feed her to make himself and others bigger.

Tithe Drinker - Although small this creature not only adds another extort source but lifelink as well. Although not as strong as fiendslayer his lifelinking and extort could become a problem if not checked fast.

Blind Obedience - This card is just awesome not only does it fill our control out but its extort gives us another source of bleed. One Thousand Lashes another second appearance. Not only does this card lock up there bombs but turns there own creature against them in a form of a free Pestilence slowly bleeding life every turn.

Lifebane Zombie I have saved the best for last. This really is one of my favorite cards in m14. After all his ETB fun is over he becomes a very hard to block 3/1. 3 may not seem like much but when it is constantly draining you for 3 it adds up he really must be answered.

Desecration Demon - In reality this card is more of a gusher than a bleeder. Best case he hits for 6 with evasion. Bad case he requests sacrifice and allows bleeders more entry. Worst case he gets removed and opens more bombs to be played worry free. Hes an all around great card and playing him will defiantly sway the game in my favor.

Kill

Archangel of Thune - This card is well worth her price If you ask me. She not only is a bomb in and of herself but she can make cards like lifeabne zombie and fiendlayer paladin into bombs as well. With multiple extorts she can defiantly make all my creatures huge very fast.

Blood Baron of Vizkopa This card is good on its own without its ability. There's much to be said for a 4/4 with lifelink and protection form some of the most devious removal heavy colors. Its second ability make it a ticking time bomb that will win the game if not dealt with fast.

Sanguine Bond - This card not only assist with bleed but is a bomb in the form of doubling not only extort but lifelink. This card defiantly has the potential to change games and win them. It also assists in the creation of the 10/10 baron making a force to be reckoned with.

Desecration Demon - This card really is an all star. He is not only a board clearing control card and evasive bleeder, if tapped a few times or comboed with archangel he can end a game fast. This card is only a bomb if left unchecked, but even the methods of checking him are bad ideas this card defiantly wins games.

Sideboard

Crypt Incursion - This card is great, stops reanimation, flashback(which will be out soon), Scavenge, and much more. At the same time gains me life cant hate a hate card that gains life as well a lot of life. Good for re-animator decks as well as Scavenging Ooze and Deathrite Shaman decks (really anything that uses grave as a resource). This card can also be a win con when paired with Sanguine Bond with all my discrad and removal having a pretty full grave is bound to happen and 7 cards = equals win (if there life is still 20 of course).

Banisher Priest - great for very aggro decks red and the life, It would even be good against simic and the like even if the kill him they still back to square 1 counter wise, Selensya it kills tokens for good. Good for aggro decks.

Keening Apparition - Great against enchantment heavy decks and still a 2/2 until they drop there bomb enchant, Also makes a good chump blocker then sac destroy enchant. Good for control decks with lots of enchants.

Solemn Offering - Is a decent spell version of Keening Apparition but with the ability to not only destroy artifacts as well, But also gain life. In a deck where life gain is encouraged and life is a resource this card can be a major asset. With Sanguine Bond in play this card can not only destroy there best asset and gain me life but cost them dearly as well. It has the potential to turn the tables and save a losing game.

Merciless Eviction - Just an all around when needed good for control that can fill the board with enchants like bant, good for very fast aggro decks as a board wipe, Good for super friends and other heavy walker decks.

Sin Collector - good for spell heavy decks such as control or burn, Even mill decks usually run lots of spells great for any deck that runs lots of instants or sorcery that will make the win for them, This card is very useful because as with Lifebane Zombie and Duress knowing your opponents hand is an invaluable resource.

Obzedat, Ghost Council - Just a straight bomb, Great against control or any removal heavy deck, Archangel of Thune is a better bomb by also being a support card however he is very susceptible to removal, Obzedat, Ghost Council is much harder to remove of detain then AoT or the likes. Hes good against any control deck that likes to detain creatures or use removal that's not instant speed.

The Strategy

Under reconstruction after changes Sadly unlike most of my decks this one doesn't really have a turn by turn strategy. The reason for this is this deck is more of wild card and played with reactions instead of actions. Overall point of the deck is to hit with small creatures with lifelink and to extort at every given chance. Doing so will guarantee I have life to handle threats until I can drop a bomb. My bombs are of course Archangel of Thune and Blood Baron of Vizkopa. I hate to call it control as blue is one of my favorite colors but in truth it kinda of is a dash of control. The reason I say this is I keep my opponents board empty with lots of removal, Also cards like Blind Obedience to ensure if they do come out they will be of no use before hit with a timely Doom Blade. And of course Duress to interrupt there plans While I control the board and slowly hit with small creatures I'm slowing gaining while they are losing. The best I can do for a turn to turn is a vacuum example so here it is.

T1 - Godless Shrine, tapped Out side of my pithing needle sideboard there's really nothing worth running for turn 1 or playing turn 1 in RTR and M14s meta. (not black or white anyway)

T2 - Swamp, Blind Obedience There is quite a few options for this spot as most of my creatures are 2cmc. However I feel is the best play for turn 2 if I have it. The reason I feel that is the best play is it controls there creatures into not being able to block. This may not matter atm but it will soon. It is the only choice for RDW style decks to stop haste. If I have this and a Tithe Drinker or High Priest of Penance then it really boils down to the opposing deck. But usually the Blind Obedience will go first.

T3 - Plains or Godless Shrine, The after mentioned land drop is dependent on one factor. Do I have a Fiendslayer Paladin in my hand if yes either land needs to go down preferably Godless Shrine. If no a swamp would preferable. The obvious t3 drop is Fiendslayer Paladin shouldn't have to explain why lol. Of course If my opponent is playing grren/white Lifebane Zombie is a good play. If I dont have a fiendslayer or a lifebane the next option is put down a creature preferably one that has extort but if I need the High Priest of Penance to ward off attacks I can do that. If a 2cmc is played extort for 1.

T4 - Swamp or Godless Shrine (if possible), Again we have an obvious play if I can Crypt Ghast unless I feel the opposing deck has alot of removal in that case I would save the Silence until now and wait for turn 5 to drop the ghast then Duress them so that 6 I have 10-12 mana. For this example well say I'm not worried of there removal.

T5 - Any land, (preferably swamp if Crypt Ghast is out or coming) Time for a bomb They bomb depends of course on whats my in my hand but lets say both are if the opponent has white or black in there deck play Blood Baron of Vizkopa if no then Archangel of Thune if I have the proper mana very possible with Crypt Ghast and Godless Shrines then play both if not play accordingly and extort with whatever left over mana (now would also be a good time to cast Sanguine Bond if theres nothing better atm. (not that its not a solid choice it is)

T6 and on any land and swing swing extort every chance between the bombs the weenies and angel causing them to grow the game should end very fast after this point.

Again this is in a vacuum and will rarely happen like this and is not equating for reactions to my opponents plays.

Had to delete as to the changes but as I was reading what to delete I noticed something I was worried about one of the top decks in my lgs golgari I smashed him in a playtest so bad he said my deck was faggy he aint playing it anymore.

First one after update!
My deck against a very very good selesnya deck. The deck is by Goody and called Return to Selesnya. Before the new changes this deck whipped my A$$ hard this time was a different story and with not bad draws and opening hands (we both got a little mana screwed) This was only game 1 and I will do more but for now here you go
