I playtested it against my BUg control, and found that the blood artist rarely did too much. I think the slots would be better occupied by maybe... Cloudfin Raptor ?

no de doesn't do much The_Wizard but neither does Cloudfin Raptor in this deck, ideally i want to replace him the Scavenging Ooze . But for now i think he's okay, not great, but okay.

May 21, 2013 11:48 a.m.

Scavenging Ooze would be perfect when he comes out... But I did copy this deck and threw Cloudfin Raptor in. It evolved very regularly, and supported the fast aggro aspect of this deck. Dropping it on turn 1, followed by a Young Wolf is a very powerful play, and in this deck, with all the undying, it will trigger a lot.

That has't been my experience in the past (i used to run it) but i'll try it out this friday and see how it goes. thanks The_Wizard

No problem. Tell me how it goes, I like this deck quite a bit, even though it isn't my style. I actually wish that Varolz was less resilient, so you could justify running more of them in here. He allows aggro decks to keep going later than they normally could, and does nice things against control.

Also, I +1'd this.

Varolz, the Scar-Striped is an absolute mental card, if it wasn't legendary, i would run a whole playset, as it stands, two is dandy. I absolutely must get two Scavenging Ooze for this deck, i'ma gonna start looking right now!

Thanks for the vote, The Wizard, much appreciated.

May 21, 2013 8:08 p.m.

Right now it's VERY pricey, because it sees play in legacy a lot and EDH everywhere. I would wait for it to be reprinted in M14. But it should run very well in here. I like that a lot of the creatures in this deck allow you to trade up on the food chain, especiall if you get Varolz out. I venture to say you could test this deck with a single extra Varolz. Just do some testing with it.

In sideboard against UWx control decks, an extra Varolz could be what tips it in your favor.

Love the concept, my riff on this(BUG Bash) works beautifully. Have you tried main decking spell rupture? It's a really useful card no matter what the matchup is.

I haven't considered it, but it wouldn't work very well with the way i play my deck, i tend to spend all my mana on dropping a big hasty creature, only keeping mana open for kill spells when im forced on the defensive. Having the counterspells in there would just make it more reliant on my opponent being aggressive and less reliant on myself being aggressive with my plays, and i'm not certain that would be the best way to approach it.

Leave a +1 if you like the deck, im gonna go check your out

You might want to go above the 20 lands. I don't know how many times i got screwed because of not having a proper hand with land. Maybe drop a creature or 2 for some more lands. Really helps to keep from getting mana screwed.

Being mana flooded in a deck that has only 5 cards out of 60 with a higher cmc than 3. Is just as bad.

I really not sure if the extra lands would be of benefit.

Do you think cards like rakdos cackler, dryad militant or judges familiar would go well in this type of deck? And is vorapede a key card?

June 3, 2013 1:29 a.m.

Schuesseled says... #15

I've considered Dryad Militant , Nitewarlord. But with eight decent 1-drops already in the deck, i don't think there is room for anymore.

And Vorapede is a key card, it adds a little midrange reach to the deck that allows the deck to perform if the game stretches out a little. And it's a undying monstrosity, that's hard to deal as well, which is the perfect fit for this deck.

Thanks for the +1, and the comment. Have any decks you want me to look over?

I'd put in 2 more forests and take out a Vorapede and an Arbor Elf. I did some test draws and I was seeing too many with just "buddy" lands that would come in to play tapped.

Well i'd rather take out blood artist, so thats what ill do.

Tragic Slip works nice to deal with Aristocrats

Wolfir Silverheart could be used over Vorapede . I prefer vorapede but it is a suggestion. Put in kalonian hydra after rotation.

I was going to make a almost completely identical deck. With corpsejack menace instead of excava 4 dreadbore instead of abrupt decay and not sure about sideboard but no spotlight because of sigarda and traft.

July 6, 2013 1:48 a.m.

Schuesseled says... #22

hey micah1, Glaring spotlight will still be relevant, what with the new hexproof guys in m14. (witchstalker and gladecover scout).

I think the Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch is a better choice over Corpsejack Menace

4/4 First Strike Haste, that gives Khalonian Hydra Haste, vs, 4/4 that doubles counters.

That first strike and haste is a clear win, after all with a quick powerful deck you want your 4-drops to be able to win the game right away if it's going well.

Schuesseled says... #23

(gives all hydra's haste, so you can plop in a Savageborn Hydra for x=3 and swing in for 6 too.)
