@scz:Now thats usefull information! I had to look that up, I thought it started at level 1... Jeez that renders this card useless for me... bye bye Guul Draz Assassin

Hmmm noone ever arrested me when i played him as a level 1 from my hand... jeez, ive been cheating and not knowing! And noone i ever played this deck against knew either... Well, hes out of the deck now!

Anwon the Ruin Sage is such a nice creature. I highly recommend putting him in. If you regularly get up to 7 mana in with this deck and are pray to removal, I always love Butcher of Malakir . Also, Sorin Markov is an awesome planeswalker and fits perfectly with the vampire theme.

why not Victim of Night over Go for the Throat or a combination of the two?

Also, why no Blood Artist ?? I'd reconsider the Guul Draz Assassin . He may be slow to build to removal, but once you get there, boy is he amazing. Also, it shouldn't be too hard to level up with that shrine you got in there.

@ Sawyer42: Anowon, the Ruin Sage is definitely a good card and a card I have looked at earlier. But when i get to the point where I can play him I usually reather play two smaller creatures instead because Vampire Nocturnus is most likely on the table and i need as many flyers as possible to seal the deal. I had 2x Sorin Markov in the deck up until a week ago. I never played him... this deck rarely sees round 8, so a 7-drop is not something i want to put in here. Thanks for great input and suggestions :)

@Rocknj06: Victim of Night is great when encountering artifact creatures. So I might mix them up :) Thanks!Blood Artist is a card i have never learned to like. Its a 0/1 for 2black and the lifegain/lifeloss wouldnt make that much difference. Would be nice vs decks built arround Gravecrawler and other bouncy creatures.

After I learned how the Guul Draz Assassin really works, it have not proved itself worth it. So now I have removed the 4x Guul Draz Assassin and added 2x Swamp & 2x Victim of Night . It did feel like 22 lands wasnt enough, I got stuck on 3 mana so often... And the added removal is just sweet :))

Why not Feast of Blood ? Any target creature, and 4 life. Having two vamps shouldn't be a problem.

the Feast of Blood is allready in the maybeboard and i have had it in the deck earlier, but it just turns out to conditional. But now that the deck has alot more 2cost removals I might try to cycle it back in. I might try:

2x Go for the Throat 2x Feast of Blood 2x Victim of Night

Midnight Charm is the best black card in the game.. and modern legal.

This card breaks down into three uses:

The first use

  • removes like 80% of 1 drop creatures (I actually don't know how many 1 drop creatures have 1 toughness)

Kills:

The second use

  • gives your creature first strike, A lot of the times this'll save it. In the case of your deck Midnight Charm + Vampire Nighthawk means first strike + death touch. (extremely useful combat trick)

The Third use

  • Taps a big creature either before you decide to attack, or when the opponent wants to attack. This is especially funny when versing aggro decks with a lot of "hasty" creatures.

My other suggestion (considering you're lacking one drops) is Shadow Alley Denizen . She is has amazing synergy with Bloodline Keeper  Flip allowing you to give a creature intimidate will often win you the game.

Another solid one drop is Vampire Lacerator . Yes, you eat a little damage but a T1 2/2 is always a good way to start the game. Also, to replace guul draw, consider Nirkana Cutthroat one good pump and it's out of Lightning Bolt range and has death touch. Also, maybe a Sorin Markov for the finish. Looks good though! +1.

Thanks for great input, right now i enjoy the deck without 1-drops. I am really considering the Vampire Lacerator and Midnight Charm should work well with the Vampire Nighthawk to generate the deathtouch+firststrike effect

nice list! +1

have you tried Kalastria Highborn ?

I'm surprised by how many things on your main board destroy creatures. It could backfire on decks use little to no creatures. I also would suggest having so drop 1 cards like Pulse Tracker (hits for 2 and if you go first there's a good chance they won't be able to block it) or Guul Draz Vampire (can become really useful towards the end of the game). Also, having more vampires makes easier to flip Bloodline Keeper  Flip , steal creatures with Captivating Vampire , and more potential flying damage under Vampire Nocturnus .

Infral says... #16

If going the Kalastria Highborn route, then I'd also suggest adding stuff like Pawn of Ulamog , Bloodthrone Vampire and some Blade of the Bloodchief , but that would probably be a way to big change to the deck.... Still fun none the less!

May 7, 2014 7:05 p.m.

Staro says... #17

@ Infral: Yes the change would probably be to big. The cards that gets played the least when in hand are: Bloodline Keeper  Flip and Captivating Vampire . the "5-vampire abilities" on theese cards are not used what so ever... only in freak rounds where im actually winning no matter what. So there might be some room to change the deck up a bit.

Infral says... #18

I''d suggest a some cheap vampires, as you'll basically win the game if you have a good board presence and then toss down a Vampire Nocturnus .

You can always have a single copy of Bloodline Keeper  Flip and Captivating Vampire as they're still good cards and can help out in some situations. Never underestimate stealing their bombs or just poop out tons of vampires and boost 'em heavily.

Have you considered adding the Sanguine Bond + Exquisite Blood infinite combo? You've got a good fast aggro deck here, but that might give you an alternate win condition.

May 9, 2014 2:14 a.m.

Staro says... #20

@ Infral: You have a good point here, and my deck is buildt arround the Vampire Nocturnus . So I went down to 1x Bloodline Keeper  Flip and 1x Captivating Vampire and I added 3x Vampire Lacerator and 3x Pulse Tracker . I just want to try theese two kind of odd 1drops for a little while.

@nosoyyucateco: Exquisite Blood + Sanguine Bond is a cool combo and it fits the vampire theme spot on! But its to heavy... the chance of getting both theese two 5drops out is just to little. Im having a hard time fitting in the Whip of Erebos when it comes out from sideboard... But i really appreciate all the nice reccomandations im getting! love it!

Mattman384 says... #21

I would still recommend 4x Captivating Vampire even if you don't plan to steal their creatures with it, for me I only use the stealing ability if they have very few cards in their hand and only one or two creatures, or of they played something that would be extremely useful for you to have. The main thing is getting the +1/+1 for me.

May 9, 2014 11:52 p.m.

NoSoyYucateco says... #22

Mattman384: The +1/+1 for vampires works a lot better with a Rakdos vampire deck, because you get things like Rakish Heir , Erdwal Ripper , Havengul Vampire , etc... Plus you get Olivia Voldaren , which is an incredibly powerful card (and also lets you steal creatures)

I'm actually considering adding some red splash to my mono-black vampire deck so I can have Olivia.

LtMiller117 says... #23

This will seem Like a weird suggestion but I would advise against the rakdos styles vampires for these reasons:

  1. More money on dual lands
  2. Olivia is gonna walk right into a lightning bolt or path before she can even steal stuff unless you cast her late game(which doesn't seem to happen a lot in modern)
  3. Other than a couple exceptions, most of the red vampires are awful.

I've seen most of the red/black decks and they don't impress me(of course personal preference). My blue/black vampires kill those types of decks. I personally think mono black will do you better.

May 10, 2014 2:33 a.m.

Staro says... #24

If you look at the history of the deck, the updates tell you that rakdos(nt work).

I feel the multicolor vamp-decks have one agenda each... Rakdos is just to get Olivia Voldaren and Dimir is to get Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker

The best way to utilize the muticolored cards would be to run any scy-land that has black in it with the Vampire Nocturnus . The carry in vampire tribal decks for me will allways be the Vampire Nocturnus and the Vampire Nighthawk . In the modern format, tribaldecks will allways struggle, but the are soooo much fun to play :)

May 10, 2014 4:12 p.m.

You probably need Coat of Arms or Door of Destinies if youre making a themed deck... And i would add more Bloodline Keeper  Flip and Captivating Vampire because those seem to be your power cards and probably want a deck like this to play midrange... You could also play Geth's Verdict or Smallpox to help control early game and might want something like Phyrexian Arena to keep your hand full! +1 from me!
