As it turns out, making as many fungi makes Thelon really happy because he can suddenly make them huge, and everyone knows that the only thing better than a few big creatures is a lot of big creatures. So, I'd suggest looking at putting in more fungi, more changeling creatures, and the only two fungus token makes that I could think of off the top of my head: Volrath's Laboratory and Riptide Replicator . There are also some fungus "lords" that can make their abilities cheaper or make them get more spore counters than normal; these are Adaptive Automaton , Sporoloth Ancient , and Sporesower Thallid . These guys not only are fungi that can get the buff from Thelon, but also provide a buff themselves. Next, a card that can add counters to your dudes is going to be great, so doubling Thelon's abilities with Illusionist's Bracers and Rings of Brighthearth are just too good to ignore. However, these are far from the only cards that can do this. The other cards I would highly suggest is Fungal Bloom , Contagion Engine , Contagion Clasp , and any other permanents that can proliferate. These cards are super awesome with Thelon.

After that, it's really up to you what you do. I am pretty sure that simultaneously milling yourself while you're doing this is going to allow you to have more than enough fungi to exile to buff all your fungi at instant speed, so self-mill is what I would recommend. The all-star of this is going to be Mesmeric Orb , since it can mill you very many cards, very quickly. There's also the mechanic Dredge that works, and it works best if you can get it into your graveyard very quickly.

Let me know if you would like me to go more in depth on what would work best with Thelon, but I am assuming that what I've mentioned is enough for you to build a strong deck while still allowing some room for your own expression and style.

Happy deckbuilding!

I'm surprised that tapped out is showing this deck as Commander legal. Commander decks can only contain cards that are the same color or colors as your commander. If Thelon is your commander, you can only have green cards in the deck. I'm trying to build a saproling deck for EDH using Ghave, Guru of Spores

Once you clean up the color issue, this deck is begging for a Coat of Arms

You are wrong and I'll tell you why after I find the proper sources. They changed a rules a few years ago.

Well, the rules have always been the same in this case - color identity is every mana symbol on the card, except for reminder text. Thelon is a Golgari Commander because of his ability.

I rechecked before I posted. Pulled this deirectly from the rules page on mtgcommander.net, which was last updated 9/20/2015:

3.A card's colour identity is its colour plus the colour of any mana symbols in the card's rules text. A card's colour identity is established before the game begins, and cannot be changed by game effects

Huh, of all the times I looked at Thelon, his ability being black/green never registered like that

battlesong72 903.4. The color identity of a card is the color or colors of any mana symbols in that cards mana cost or rules text, plus any colors defined by its characteristic-defining abilities."

So Thelon of Havenwood having an activated ability of means his Colour identity is Black green.

You guys have any suggestions as to what to cut for the 13 maybeboard cards?

So, now that I've wiped the egg off my face.... I still say that the deck is begging for a Coat of Arms and Tribal Unity. Doubling Season would just rock in here as well. Any multicolor deck that includes green can't go wrong with Crop Rotation and green/black really cries for Abrupt Decay.

All cards that put +1/+1 tokens on themselves (ie Rot Shambler), Fungal Sprouting, See the Unwritten, Cairn Wanderer does nothing, Changeling Titan, deso twin.

That is a good start - you do not need funguses that cannot do anything with counters and you do not need vanilla fatties.

Cairn wanderer benefits from my opponents graves as well as my own.

See the unwritten is a casual tooth and nail. Plenty powerful.

I swapped undergrowth scavager and rot dhambler for Conspiracy and Ashes of the Fallen.

BozaMy biggest issue is I don't want to run out of fungus to eat with Thelon's ability.

Is it weird that I think that adding in all of the maybe board would be downgrading the deck? Some of the cards are good, but the rest are lackluster. Do you need all 13?

CuteSnail says... #21

M a g i c a l H a c k e r nope. I actually need help figuring out what is worth adding and what isn't.

In Garruk's Wake and Plague Wind are good for one sided board wipes.

Doubling Season goes well in this deck

I've gotta advise against using Life and Limb. Any boardwipe at all will utterly destroy you, and it's not like they're uncommon in EDH.

Cool deck though I dig it. Always had a soft spot for Thelon.

It goes infinite with sporemound so I only play it for the win.

Oh right I forgot about the combo. Nevermind then.
