YamishiTheWickedOne hey dude, any tips for battling tron, eldrazi decks and that lantern control deck?

I don't see Eldrazi much anymore but Painter's Servant is amazing at shutting them down, and has synergy with Nocturnus. I'm not that experienced with Lantern control, but vs. Tron you want sided land hate, best options are Fulminator Mage, Crumble to Dust or Ghost Quarter + Surgical Extraction, all sided of course.

so other than blackcleaves, this is very similar to my deck pre-kalitas. I tested it, it runs very smoothly.

YamishiTheWickedOne i see, hehe btw man whats the best 1st hand do you usually keep ?

it really varies, most of my creatures have synergy. If a hand has captain + nighthawk and 2+ lands I keep it, or 2+ lands and 2 or more of my 1-2 mana creatures I'll keep and hope I draw into a lord. Some of my best games I've opened 3 instants and a nocturnus/Olivia. Just kill stuff until I can drop a boss. I'm basically playing control with those hands. really anything where you can keep making at least one play every turn.
I still stand by my statement that Gatekeeper is the best card in the deck. He feels a lot like Hierarch in infect, I'm almost never sad to draw him.

Oh, I generally keep hands with captain + Olivia. Captain is actually really important as he makes my creatures much more resiliant, both from first strike and by putting a fair number of them at 4 toughness, out of bolt range. 4 toughness is why Kalitas is so amazing, as he's much harder to kill. 4 cmc also puts him out of range for Abrupt Decay and against a lot of budget decks he has immunity to both victim of night and doom blade.

YamishiTheWickedOne i see, i usually keep the small creatures but then i unfortunately draw the lords. Any tips how to maximize bloodghast?
November 3, 2016 3:06 a.m.
I mean what are the best times to use bloodghast? And do i need to add cards that would benefit him?
November 3, 2016 5:01 a.m.

really the only cards that compliment him THAT much are Liliana of the Veil, Viscera Seer and Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet. Ghast with Kalitas basically = ton of nearly free counters, late game mana dump if you just wanna get your hand back card by card. Really just use him as a creature. The aforementioned ability to bounce back after removal is a huge boon to a deck like this, but on top of that, he acts as a valid counter to BOTH of the relevant effects of the best planeswalker in the format (and arguably the entire game), Liliana of the Veil. His haste can be relevant late game as he benefits from lords. He's incentive to not chump block as he'll just come back. And you can flash him into play during your opponent's end step via fetch lands.

YamishiTheWickedOne hey man, i joined an fnm modern tourney a while ago. Was able to win 50-50 with this deck. Having problems with blue red white counter deck damn. How do we vampire players get around that deck? Any tips?
November 4, 2016 1:43 p.m.

YamishiTheWickedOne i see, what matchups are surgical extraction best at?

It's a swiss army knife, I typically use it to hit a removal spell (bolt, path) after they've already hit something. It also lets you see their hand so it helps you scout. But if you have a way to kill their wincon, you can remove other copies from the game, forcing them to regroup and come up with backup strategies. Thing is you have to know what you're aiming at, it's not a card you fire off blindly.
I should add, Liliana, the Last Hope is great to side vs. Infect. She can kill their creatures on your turn while going plus. And her second ability is useful.

I see the value of surgical that has been the biggest problem i have in most tourney (path and other removals). Anyway how many surgical do u suggest to side?
November 21, 2016 7:54 a.m.
YamishiTheWickedOne says... #23
Hand disruption is usually aimed at those cards as well.
November 21, 2016 7:56 a.m.
Hahaah yeah i feel the overkill on 4 surgicals . I see, if i am to insert 3 hand disruptions in my mainboard which ones do u suggest be replaced?
November 21, 2016 8:10 a.m.
YamishiTheWickedOne says... #25
Swap out the Lacerators. The disruptions are your turn 1 plays, aim to remove their creature hate before you play creatures.

Im seeing 1 nighthawk 1 lacerator 1 land and 1 thoughtseize to drop for my set of bloodghast
