Mono blue creature base, with an elemental theme to power up the card advantage that Risen Reef offers.

Curve on 1. Aether Vial : is great for curving out and is essential for the decks performance. Judge's Familiar : great early drop that can account for a few points of damage and tax board wipes. Siren Stormtamer : Similar to Judge's Familiar but more narrow in how it counters effects, this is in to protect the combo creatures and or hand disruption.

on 2. Merfolk Trickster : flexible and quite good against creatures with activated abilities or even triggered abilities. Chart a Course : draw effects for aggro archetypes often have big draw backs or cost to much, but this feels damn near spot on to what this type of deck needs.

on 3. Risen Reef : one of the combo pieces to the deck and a big reason for me to rebuild mono blue since the standard version in Theros block standard. Risen Reef allows us in conjunction with Master of Waves to produce enough elemental ETB triggers to draw through mana flood, refresh our hand or even combo kill with Jace, Wielder of Mysteries . Shorecrasher Elemental : elemental being key here, it triggers Risen Reef and has tons of modular effects which makes it hard to remove and very capable on its own. Nightveil Specter : mono blue devotion all-star returns. very good evasive threat that can produce some interesting card advantage.

on 4. Master of Waves : mono blue devotion all-star again, but now much more capable with his Risen Reef friend. Leyline of Anticipation : Another essential part of the deck. this often comes down as turn 0, 2 extra devotion and allows for Siren Stormtamer and Judge's Familiar to become true counter spells or even allows for flexibility around control decks. Sleep : This deck does more ground and pound then it does comboing, so when it comes down to it you need a way through your opponents blocking force. freezing your opponents creatures will totally offer that opportunity. Jace, Wielder of Mysteries : the last part of a 3 card combo, this boi has a lot to offer. the 3 devotion he offers is excellent. he also giving us the Laboratory Maniac effect, while not being nearly as vulnerable as Laboratory Maniac .

Problems; admittedly, i dont like the mana base. im a little sore from the games i played against choke decks so i opted for a mana base that leaned away from to many islands. is it a mistake to prep this way? yeah probably. especially with blood moon being as popular as it is in some metas. the deck also suffers like any other to flood, so i added a single copy of castle Vantress in hopes that it can at the very least, allow us to scry through bad patches of cards. i also dont know what to expect out of this deck in the future, so sideboard is also fairly questionable. my aim is to target combo decks with creatures such as whirl-urza, storm and devoted druid.

Strengths; the deck is super flexible and often plays like it always has options to win. shifting gears from an aggro deck, then comboing into a kill can leave your opponent frazzled and they will often make big play mistakes. the overall feeling to the deck is simply second to none. drawing 14-28 cards, playing nearly every land in them instantly, and a board state that rivals hogakk.
