This deck is a variation of my Self-Mill Blue/Black deck that has been performing very smoothly against the current aggro/midrange meta.
THE GOAL
The goal of the deck is to entirely mill your own library while having
Jace, Wielder of Mysteries
in play.
THE LANDS
The deck is basically Simic colors, but I added a number of tech lands to help you face anything that might come your way.
It has a single
Dimir Guildgate
, the reason for this is that the sideboard has four copies of
Creeping Chill
. 99% of the time,
Creeping Chill
will be insta-milled and you won't have to pay for it, but this single
Dimir Guildgate
gives you the opportunity to actually play those chills if you had the need.
It also incorporates
Memorial to Genius
,
Blast Zone
, and
Karn's Bastion
for obvious reasons.
Tech Cards That Make This Deck Playable
-
Tamiyo, Collector of Tales
: Let's you look for specific cards while milling your library. Also, -3 for getting Jace back? Yes please.
-
World Shaper
: It can mill three cards each time it attacks, but you mostly want him to block and instantly die, cause YOU GET A MILLION LANDS IF HE DIES.
-
Planewide Celebration
: I cannot overstate how versatile this card is. You need extra counters on your Jace to -8 him? You need more life to survive against red aggro? You need some blockers? You need to get Jace back from your graveyard? This single card has it all.
-
Narcomoeba
: It's useless if you draw it, but i've been saved countless times by unexpected narcomoebas that joined the battlefield from my graveyard.
The Sideboard
Eight cards are here against aggro/midrange
Seven cards are here to counter control/combo/wacky decks
for aggro/midrange:
-
Root Snare
: Pretty obvious, honesty. But the advantage is that in combo with
Bond of Insight
and
Tamiyo, Collector of Tales
, you can play Root Snare almost every turn starting turn 6.
-
Creeping Chill
: Statistically, 61% of your library will go straight into your graveyard, which means that you will get in average 6 to 9 lives per game from Creeping Chills without having to do ANYTHING. Also, the deck has one
Dimir Guildgate
, in case you actually NEED to play it from your hand
for anything else:
-
Carnage Tyrant
: This one is pretty obvious. Sometimes you need an alternate wincon, and this guy is one by himself. Can be easily brought back to your hand since it's a permanent.
-
Nexus of Fate
: This is a tricky one. Only to be used in games where you could potentially mill your entire deck without having a safe Jace in the battlefield (hard control decks, or decks with
Unmoored Ego
. Nexus allows you never to die from milling yourself since you can put him back into your library always.
-
Finale of Revelation
: same as above.
-
Devious Cover-Up
: counterspells because I am really really really scared of
The Immortal Sun
,
Teferi, Hero of Dominaria
+
The Elderspell
,
Liliana, Dreadhorde General
+
The Elderspell
, Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God + The Elderspell
, and
Ixalan's Binding
.
Have fun playing this and let me know how it goes
