Bogbrew Witch Project

Tales of the fabled Bogbrew Witch have been used for centuries for a variety of reasons. Terrorfying children into behaving, scaring travelers away from the area, or simply for fun as a classic ghost story. Little do many know is the reality of the Bogbrew Witch and what she really is capable of. After extensive research and tracking, proof of her powers have finally been documented. This is the Bogbrew Witch Project.

Cooking the Flesh of Children

The primary source of the Bogbrew Witch 's power is with her Bubbling Cauldron and her favorite cooking ingredient Festering Newt . As long as she has access to both, she will not resist the capture of an opponent's creatures to feast and replenish her youth. Forunately, the witch has extremely easy access to a cauldron or a new if neither are available with her own ability. The problem though is having both, but no Bogbrew Witch available. This is where Diabolic Tutor comes in handy! Fetching the witch alone allows you to eventually fetch everything needed for this combo. The tutor is also fantastic for getting that one card you've been hoping you would draw to answer a specific problem you face.

A common dilemma for the Bogbrew Witch when cooking foul meals is running out of Festering Newts, as you can only have four total. Immortal Servitude is an amazing answer for this problem, especially when you've cooked all four newts. For four mana, you can potentially bring all four newts back onto the battlefield to be cooked all over again. Your opponent will quickly learn not to underestimate the hunger of a Bogbrew Witch ..

Devouring Souls of Victims

Simply cooking and eating newts is not always enough for the witch, and she will delight in the death of her foes regardless of how they fall. Employing the talents of Thrill-Kill Assassin s, it is a cheap means of stopping potential threats and filling the opponent's graveyard for later uses. Never unleash the Thrill-Kill Assassin ! It is hired help, and should not be set loose. Use it to protect yourself, and to send any foolish enough to tread onto the witch's lands to an early grave. To ensure a single soul is never wasted, Dark Prophecy has great synergy not only with the Festering Newt but also when the Thrill-Kill Assassin is used as blocking fodder.

To ensure the locals never rise up and overwhelm the witch, Doom Blade and Ultimate Price are both readily available. Brewing up some newt can handle most creatures, but it is usually best to keep one of these direct removals available to take care of the witches heavier work.

Curses Upon Those who Tresspass

The Bogbrew Witch is very territorial, and stepping on her lands will cost one dearly. She doesn't have any interest in coin or jewels, she demands life. Using the extort mechanic has great synergy not only with the fact the Bubbling Cauldron is already draining life of the opponent, but will have a more potent use in later game. Use the Pontiff of Blight not only as a very large blocker, but it provides extort to all of your creatures.

A witch can claim and terrorize vast amounts of territory. With the help of a more famous lady of the dark arts, Liliana of the Dark Realms , one can fill their resources with ample amount of swamps. Use the extra swamps to either extort, or to cause some major devestation with Corrupt . Another great source for providing all the mana one may need is the Crypt Ghast, which will provide extra mana per swamp even if you are using Liliana's emblem, as you are still tapping a swamp for mana.

Drinking the Blood of Innocents

The witch using her dark magic to drain the life from innocents has always been horror for locals, but with a blood pact such as Sanguine Bond it becomes all the more terrorfying. As has been described there are several ways to gain life, whether it be small nibbles at the foe through extort or a large bite such as Corrupt , but with this enchantment on the field a simple newt tossed into the cauldron an opponent will suffer 8 damage. Another great combination with Sanguine Bond is with Crypt Incursion. You can use Crypt Incursion either on your own graveyard full of Festering Newt s and Thrill-Kill Assassin s, or the more ideal choice is on your opponent's after the remains of the witch's victims has filled it up. Careful not to exile your newts unless the damage from Sanguine Bond will be a game ender, as you never know when you will use them again!

Now that you know the terror a Bogbrew Witch can bring, you should always been careful of tresspassing onto her land. Listen carefully for the snapping of ritualist sticks, do not presume it is just animals in the woods. When you hear the wind howling, keep a sharp ear for the screams of children being cooked in her cauldron. And know with certainty when you see a harmless Festering Newt shuffle by, you are in dangerous territory, and may very well be the next meal of the Bogbrew Witch !

Updates Add

This deck is in the early development stage, so any tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated! Because I do not want to rebuild it when Innistrad drops from Standard this Fall, I have not included the Innistrad or M13 blocks. I am certain this hinders the deck, and am in hopes Theros will offer some great support to it. Hope you enjoy the Bogbrew Witch Project!
