Hi there,
I've been working for quite a while on a Grixis deck that includes Fevered Visions, Thing in the Ice
and Nicol Bolas, the Ravager
. I saw the new pioneer format as a great starting point to play this deck competitively.
So now let's explain the different strategies of this deck:
Fevered Visions: This card makes you draw and keeps lowering your opponent's life. I found a good synergy with Underworld Dreams wich is basically exploiting the drawing quality of Fevered Visions. Apart from that, Fevered Visions hability to give you more cards faster is really interesting in a control deck and the Thing in the Ice
can exploit the extra spells drew that way.
Thing in the Ice
: I really love this card! It's a good core for spell decks and it creates urgency for the opponent to respond. This card is synergising well with cards like Collective Brutality, Collective Defiance, Bedevil and many others. Once the Thing in the Ice
is flipped, you should be on your way to victory.
Nicol Bolas, the Ravager
: The only interest of Nicol Bolas, the Ravager is his planeswalker side. My idea to try to lock the conversion on turn 6 was to incorporate 4 Gilded Lotus. The idea is to get the Gilded lotus on turn 5 and transform Nicol Bolas, the Ravager
on turn 6.
Main strategy
Thing in the Ice
turn 2 so that you can start removing those ice counters.
Fevered Visions turn 3 so that the life decrease begins
Nicol Bolas, the Ravager
turn 4 (or Underworld Dreams if no bolas)
Gilded Lotus turn 5
Nicol Bolas, the Ravager
flipped turn 6
I assume this might not work all the time, that's why i incorporated the classical play denial cards like Negate, Bedevil, Lightning Strike, Collective Defiance orCollective Brutality.
Sideboardwhise i have a few more tools to adapt the gameplay to various decks:
Dreadbore, Purphoros's Intervention Sign in Blood or Summary Dismissal.
I hope you will like it and i'll be glad to have suggestions on changes i could make to perfect this deck
Thank's all
Mathew
